NFL 2007 Draft Thread

Matt Millen will probably take Calvin Johnson if he's available because

a) He's retarded

b) He can get away with anything

Jeff Samardzija is out, as he has opted to sign his minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs.

That's a plus in that I won't have to see him on the football field.

It's a minus in that I won't get to see someone like Champ Bailey smack the shit out of him on the field.

Maybe this will see Dwayne Bowe go to a winner at the end of the 1st round, such as New England, San Diego, or Chicago.

Does anybody know about Marshawn Lynch's "potential legal issues"? I've heard of it, but not what they might be about.

A woman in Oakland is claiming he slapped, choked and sexually assaulted her.

"With the 18th pick in the draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select Marshawn Lynch"

Well I do love Marshawn Lynch, and my roommate has a prop bet on 12 Bengals arrests by Jan '08.

Being that we are now in draft week and all the rankings and mock drafts are in, what are you hoping for out of your teams' weekend.

Round 1 pick 26: Meriweather/Nelson/Griffin, Greg Olsen

I really don't care which safety is there, I'd be happy with any of them. If they are all gone and Olsen is sitting there it works as LJ Smith doesn't look like he is coming back in 08.

Round 2 pick 57: Sidney Rice, Eric Weddle, Brian Leonard, Ben Petrick

The Eagles already have plenty of recievers but if Rice is there at 57 you have to do it, Curtis/Brown/Rice/Baskett could be really good. If they don't go safety in round 1, Weddle would work. JJ would like his versatility. Leonard would be a great compliment to Westbrook and with his receiving ability you could put them out there at the same time and cause matchup problems. If they are gone and they haven't grabbed Olsen in the first, they have to address TE here and Zach Miller should be gone by here. David Harris appears to be moving up making it unreasonable to put him here.

Round 3 pick 90: Brandon Siler, Tony Hunt, Matt Spaeth

In that order depending on what they already filled in the first two rounds.

No mock draft this year.

The local teams needs help pretty much everywhere.

If he's available they should draft Adrian Peterson. When they suck next year, at least they can selll a bunch of Peterson jersey's to all the rubes.

Only the Rams could think that drafting Ted Ginn could help their run defense.

When asked about the possibility of drafting Ginn, Linehan said, "I can tell you this, he's a high consideration for us. ... There's a guy that potentially can impact a game."

Even though Ginn's immediate impact would be as a kickoff and punt returner, Linehan insists such a contribution will help the Rams' run defense.

"I promise you, if a player like Ted Ginn or any other player creates field position, or changes the scoreboard and makes it a 14-point lead for the Rams, our run defense is going to get a lot better," he said. "Because the team we're playing is going to be throwing. To me that's a logical way of looking at it."

How does that work? Ginn returns kickoffs and punts, which impacts their own offense (as in not many yards to go if it was a good return), but the defense still has to deal with the other teams' offenses getting on the field. Ginn does nothing to change that.

I guess if you are winning the field position battle, then they figure other teams are less likely to throw out of their own end?

If you want him as a WR/return man just say so ("Hey, did you see what Devin Hester meant to the Bears, plus this guy can play WR", was that so hard). Don't try to feed the other garbage.

The Lions might as well draft Ginn to save time, and get another Mike Furrey.

I think we trade out of the 17th spot and grab a defensive end. If not, I agree with the consensus mock drafts that say we should draft Reggie Nelson. Good thing that the Rams raised their drafting Ginn flag so that I don't get obsessed with wanting the Jags to take a receiver with out of this world gamebreaking speed.

It's probably disinformation. One of the teams behind the Rams probably want Ginn, so by saying they really like Ginn they can force the other team to move up.

The Pats won't keep two first round picks, I don't think. They'll probably send one somewhere for a bunch of lower-rounders and maybe a 1st next year. Stockpiling 2nd and 3rd round picks has been their MO for the last 8 years.

So lets spend the next couple days talking about team needs and who you want your team to draft. The Bengals draft 18th, and I'm pretty sure CJ or AD are the only guys on offense the Bengals would take ahead of D. They WILL draft defense. While their greatest need is at LB, I would love to see them draft Darrelle Revis, but he is rising fast. I am thinking the Bengals draft Jon Beason, LB Miami (FL)

Does anyone take a flyer on Samardzija late in the draft?

I am sure someone will throw a pick on him, probably a fifth. Figure everyone might take a chance in the 6th so someone will jump a round early. Detroit with 4 of the first 21 picks in the 5th round wouldn't shock me. They could spare one to stash a player.

Yeah, someone will, I think it would be later though. Henson got a 6th round pick, but that was for a QB, I tend to think the demand for Samardzjia would not be as high being a WR, but I think it could happen.
