NFL 2007 Draft Thread

Recommended Posts

It probably wouldn't be reasonable in any case, usually the no 1 pick is signed on Thursday or Friday night (after having been talking parameters for a week or so). Beyond that I doubt is enough time to work out a contract with the number 2 pick, you might be able to agree to terms but getting the whole contract worked out may be a little much.

Well if the #1 team has made it sort of transparent as to who they were picking (like if Raiders made a clearer case that they were picking Russell), then I could see a case where Detroit might talk parameters with a Joe Thomas or Gaines Adams or Brady Quinn for as long as the Raiders were talking with Russell, and come to an agreement shortly after Russell signs with Oakland.

Whatever we do,I pray that we do not end up with Calvin Johnson...a $27 million dollar signing bonus to a number 2 WR would defy logic in every way. Particularly when we had the 32nd ranked rushing attack.

Look, I really like CJ, and I think he will be a great asset to whomever picks him up, but I do not think I would trade up for him. First as said earlier, you would have to pay a king's ransom for him and WR is the deepest position in the draft and if you pick in the 2nd round between 33-45 I certainly would sit on my picks and grab a decent 2nd rounder.

Houston must have really wanted out of that 10 spot, to do this move for just the no.56 and to do it before even seeing who is on the board. I wonder if Schaub is pleading his case for Joe Staley in the 21 slot.

The Texans and Broncos are swapping first round picks. Denver will give up their 2nd rounder.

If that trade DOES happen (and people are saying that it's not set in stone), it won't happen until tomorrow so Denver can makes sure their target (I'm betting Willis) makes it to 10. And if the trade does happen Houston had better get more than just a 2nd rounder in exchange for giving up 11 spots in what seems to be a fairly weak first round ouside of the top 8 or 9.

I hope the NFL Network does a better job of covering the post-1st Round picks than they did last year when they were even worse than ESPN when it came to that. It was a shame because their 1st Round coverage was so much more bearable than the usual Chris Berman nonsense.

I am going to give ESPN a shot, but the second Berman starts his pick spoiling bullshit like last year I am going to switch over. And I am resigned to both being awful post-1st round picks. Last year on ESPN was awful. They shouldn't be having to play the "let's catch up on the last 6 picks" graphic before pick 50.

ESPN automatically improves with the subtraction of Irvin, but I just can't stand Berman anymore. NFL Network, all the way. Even if they do poorly with the later pics again, and have an ugly interface.

The ESPN has Keyshawn on the broadcast. I'd love to hear what he has to say when the Bucs pick. And the Cowboys too. Maybe even the Jets.

So, when does it all start? I keep seeing it as both 12 EST and 11EST? Is it 11EST when they start coverage and 12EST when the 1st pick is, or no?

Would people consider Keyshawn a disapointing 1st overall pick?

I don't think so. Has he had an incredible career? No but he's had a productive enough career and can help a team out. There's been worst picks obviously. What happened to Keyshawn's self imposed ban from the media? Did that even last a week? Now he's working with that network.

Compared to others in the past, no. I'd rather have the 5th pick than the first.

It seems like a lot of #1's have busted lately, comparatively speaking. I'll take my chances with the guys just below.

Using Keyshawn as a starting point, let's look the #1's since then

Orlando Pace

Peyton Manning

Tim Couch

Courtney Brown

Michael Vick

David Carr

Carson Palmer

Eli Manning

Alex Smith

Mario Williams

It's too soon to call Mario a bust, Smith seems decent so far. Eli is hit and miss but you could do worse. Palmer is a success. Carr never got a real line, so we never got a good tell on what he could do. Vick? Well, he done some good but he's done some bad as well on and off the field. Brown and Couch are among the biggest #1 busts ever. Manning is going to be a top five all time QB. Orlando Pace had a good career. I'd say its about equal.

Here are the #5 picks since that time, including the Keyshawn draft. Who picked them for the earlier ones.

Cedric Jones (Giant.BUST.)

Bryant Westbrook (Lions. Bust.)

Curtis Enis (Bears. Bust.)

Ricky Williams (I won't even start.)

Jamal Lewis

LT

Quentin Jammer

Terence Newman

Sean Taylor

Cadillac Williams

AJ Hawk.

Now here's what I learned from this list. First, it's that there's a REALLY good chance a DB or RB will be taken with the 5th pick tomorrow. Second, it's that the difference between 1 and 5 is not that great. I think it's close to even. The 7th picks are almost just as good.

so apparently the Raiders are going to be doing everything possible to trade Randy Moss today while still trying to get some value in return. If they can't trade him then there's rumblings that he'll be a cap casualty later on. Packers and Pats are the two teams most interested with the Packers having apparently offering a 4th rounder at this point.

If the Pats aquired Randy and got him to drink the Kool-Aid somehow then Brady would have about the same level of talent surrounding him that Indi has offensively.

Oh, and apparently Michael Bush's video that got sent around the league showed him favoring his surgically repaired leg and he's a bit tubby in it.

Ok today is the day!!!

I'm hoping the Saints go Cornerback, Linebacker, General Defensive position on day 1.

On Day 2 I'm hoping for QB Project (maybe Trent Edwards or Kevin Kolb if they are still on the board - That guy from Jared Zabransky in the 7th round if he's still sitting there), Jacob Bender OT Nicholls State (l went to school with him :-p ), Cornerback, and another linebacker.

So yeah, 2 corners, 2 linebackers, a bit of offense, and 1 wild card prospect that I'd hope to be defense.

(And I do not have the NFL network and I am already in cringe mode watching the Sportscenter repeats)

Has it ever been figured out what is happening with Asante Samuels and the Patriots? One minute he says he's staying, the next he says he wants out of town. I really don't know what the hell is going on with him and I was wondering if there had been an update.

Olsen attended Wayne Hills High School. As a high school senior he was one of three finalists for the Gatorade National Player of the Year award along with former teammate Kyle Wright. He was a USA Today First-Team All-American as a senior in 2002. He was rated third overall on ESPN's list of 100 High School players. He totaled 73 career catches for 1,474 yards, a 20.2 yards per catch average and a school-record 27 touchdowns. He lost in a school yard fight to a muscle bound freak named J.C. Cocoris. It was rumored that Cocoris made Greg cry like a little girl.

Dammit, Berman. Stop spoiling picks, even though Detroit drafting a wide receiver isn't really a shock.
