alfdogg Posted December 24, 2006 Author Report Posted December 24, 2006 So after yesterday, we now have: Paul Pierce: out 2-3 weeks with stress fracture in foot Carmelo Anthony: out 13 more games due to suspension Yao Ming: out at least 6 weeks with broken bone in leg Lamar Odom: out at least a couple more weeks with sprained knee Shaquille O'Neal: still out due to surgery, no clue when he'll be back Nenad Krstic: out for season with torn ACL Peja Stojakovic/David West: out for presumably most of the season with surgery Rashard Lewis: out at least 2 months due to surgery on his hand Chris Bosh: out due to knee injury At this rate, we'll end up with Justin Timberlake and Master P starting in the All-Star game.
Kurt Angle Mark Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 According to the L.A. Times Clippers are discussing a Corey Maggette for Ron Artest deal with the Kings
Gert T Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Well I thought the 8 spots in the West were locked up after the Iverson trade, but with Yao out who knows. Damn shame too with the season he is having. Artest on the Clippers would just be a sick frontcourt. Toronto winning the Atlantic, I could see that happening, they are a fun team to watch and certainly look a lot better than they did (playing together) earlier in the season.
Ripper Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 So my Hawks to the playoff prediction is officially over I would guess. Josh Childress still out with a broken foot, Josh Smith out at least a month when he had hernia surgery the other day, ZaZa Pachulia sprained his elbow, Tyrone Lue has a slight tear in his groin, Sheldon Williams has a dislocated shoulderbut is playing through it, Marvin Williams reinjured his broken hand but is playing through it, and Speedy Claxton has the dreaded back spasms. Thats basically the entire fucking team.
Just John Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 *Sigh* Well, the Rockets are done. The year started off with much hope, but Yao and T-Mac both got hurt in less than 25 games. Not surprising, but still a heartbreaker.
teke184 Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 The Hornets, while not done, are certainly in danger. The only way they can salvage things is if Bobby Jackson comes back ASAP and either David West or Peja comes back within a month. I think this is a better year for them to miss the playoffs anyway, as picking up a lottery choice in this draft is probably better than ensuring they end up picking at #17 or so after getting ass-raped by the Mavericks, Suns, or Spurs in the 1st round.

Rendclaw Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 From what I saw when the Pistons dismantled them, Rip, the Hawks are one player away at least. That and they need to keep that team intact while some of their players get more experienced.
Guest Vitamin X Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 I don't have TV. What the FUCK happened to the Lakers today? 20 point blowout?
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 Kobe wasn't making his baskets. I think he was 1-9 in FG's in the first half. Wade had like 9 assists.
CanadianChris Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Wade had an absolute beast of a game. 40-11-4-4-4.
alfdogg Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 Pacers beat the Rockets 81-76 in easily the ugliest game I've seen all year. They shot 29% in the first half and 35 for the game. Of course, it helps when the Rockets are basically depending on Mutombo and Chuck Hayes for all their rebounding. And would you believe, the only Pacer to start every game this year: JAMAAL TINSLEY.
Just John Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I'm prepared for an endless string of ugly Rocket games. They have enough solid defenders out there to disrupt the opponents, but no one can score or handle the ball consistently. Edit: I see that T-Mac returned though. Must've just been one of those games for the Rockets. They're good for at least 5 absolutely hideous games a year based on how they play. He can at least handle the ball, and does provide a scoring threat, though without Yao, he'll be doubled a lot.
Rendclaw Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Good win by the Pistons against the Nets, even though they blew a pretty good lead en route. Look for Lawrence Frank to get fined by the league for any bitching he does. I saw the final play, and he doesn;t have that much of a case. Vince Carter took an off-balance shot and it did not fall. Shocking. I think every decent team is good for at least five horrible games a year where they either can;t throw it into the ocean, the refs are just going to call the game a certain way, or they just don;t have it defensively. The 96 Bulls were the only team that actually could have won 82 out of 82 games, but they only won 72. Nobody's perfect, I guess.
teke184 Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Chris Paul left the NOK / Seattle game at the end of the 1st quarter with a sprained ankle and is doubtful to return. It's awfully easy to pick up an injury like that when you're in his situation, which is where you're carrying the weight of an entire team on your back.

It should have been called one way or the other. The dreaded no call just makes the Nets angry because they missed, and Detroit would have been just as pissed had the shot gone in and they lost.

alfdogg Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 It obviously wasn't good on the knees.
Rendclaw Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I think it was more initiated by Vince Carter than anything, trying to draw a foul, and that doesn't work sometimes as the refs know at times when a player is looking to bail them out. Chauncey did the same thing on the play before, except that he was knocked down. That's life in the NBA... sometimes you get the calls, sometimes you don't.
Brett Favre Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 No that was a foul. Vince was trying to go around him, and Sheed knocked off his route, so that'd be a foul.
alfdogg Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 I'm with Rendclaw here. That was totally initiated by Carter, he leaned his shoulder right into Sheed and then took the shot after knocking him down, or him flopping or whatever you want to call it. The Nets have no gripe here at all.
Ripper Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 You mean kinda like how Billups did on the play to give them the lead? I think that is why they are bitching so hard. They lost the game on basically the same type of play that Billups won it on.
Fökai Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 If it's a foul on Carter on that previous play, it should've been a foul on somebody on that second play. The Nets bench were off of their seats before Carter even took that shot.
alfdogg Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 Yeah, I didn't see much contact on the Billups play, so they may have a complaint there. Carter also had plenty of time to set up and take a shot which would have been wide open, but instead he threw up a wild shot and waited for the refs to bail him out, when a foul would have put him on the line anyway whether he was shooting or not. Either way, that shouldn't be a foul on Wallace, Carter bowled him right over. Although I personally would have loved for it to be called, because Wallace may have killed that poor referee.
Guest Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 The Maggette for Artest trade is very close to becoming reality.
alfdogg Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 Stick a fork in the Kings, they're done.
alfdogg Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 Staying on that subject for a bit, Andre Miller apparently doesn't really want to play in Philly, and would rather be re-routed to a team with a better chance of winning. If I'm Sacramento and can swing a Bibby-for-Miller trade, I'd do it in a second and try to tough it out with Artest a little longer, because Miller will see that he and Martin both get enough touches to keep them happy. Bibby seems more interested in just creating for himself. Also, Carmelo Anthony is apparently spending his time away from the court taking boxing classes, according to the Boston Herald. I'm not kidding.
