I'd call 2003 better, just based on the high-end games being better than most of what came out this year. 2003 had Wind Waker, FFX-2, FFTA, VF4:E, KOTOR, GGXX, SC2, GTA:VC, Mario Kart:DD, SimCity 4, Deus Ex 2 and Mario Golf:TT. I'll take the first 4 over anything from 2006, outside of Suikoden 5. I don't see the depth of high-end games this year, even though there may be a greater depth of "good" or "very good" games. When given the choice, I prefer absolute high-end depth over anything.

Wind Waker - sucked for a Zelda, IMO.

FFX-2 - hated it.

FFTA - sucks ass through a straw

VF4:E - upgrade

KOTOR - good

GGXX - fine game, but upgrade.

SC2 - good

GTA:VC - couldn't care less, though I'm one of the few.

Mario Kart:DD - my least favorite MK

SimCity 4 - no opinion

Deus Ex 2 - critical and fan opinion was a giant golden shower; I didn't know anyone actually liked that game.

Mario Golf:TT - no opinion

Deus Ex 2 averaged an 8.3 from media reviews, and mostly got 8's and 9's from the "good" sources. The only reason the game had any negative stigma was 1) because it had technical problems on release, including an awful setting that was on by default which made the game annoying to play, and 2) it wasn't as good as the original. Once the problems were fixed (which was done via patch, but was easily fixable by the player beforehand) and people realized it wasn't going to be as good as the original, it was a very good game. To put it into perspective, Deus Ex 2 was better than Halo in every significant aspect. By a wide margin.

VF4:E was indeed an upgrade, but they almost totally changed the main gameplay mode along with the tweaked fighting system. It ended up taking the best fighting game of all time and widening the gap a little more, but I thought the single player mode was significant enough for the game to have its own identity.

GTA:VC was basically more of the same from GTA3, but it was still a good game. I'd call it Zelda's TP to Zelda's OoT ;)

Considering VC recycled so much graphically, was pumped out shortly after GTA3, but changed the setting, threw in some gameplay changes, I'd say it's more like Majora...except Majora was drastically different in structure while VC was pretty much the same. Nice job with the backhanded compliment, though. I guess TP and OOT appear like the same game if you're incredibly myopic, though.

You neglected to point out that VC had high-quality voice acting, unlike GTA3. TP haters love to beat on the voice acting point to no end. You disappoint me.

Let the record show you're wasting time defending Deus Ex 2 rather than responding to my challenge about Suikoden 5, which is infinitely more relevant.

I guess I missed that. Well, considering you haven't played it (surprise, surprise) I think I'll pass on that review. I'll just say it's the sort of RPG that isn't for casuals, due to it's pacing and heavy plot and character development. Of course, I tend not to let what the masses think impact my own viewpoint, since so many people have no idea what objectivity is.

I'm merely asking you to tell the unwashed masses what you think is so great about it. Rentals aren't cheap these days, you know. An in-depth review, with specific examples, please. The burden of proof appears to be on you.

Ok, I'll play that 60 hour game and write a review just for you :D

It being your GOTY, I'd assumed you played it already, and to completion or close to it.

Yes, I play games to completion, or very close, before I lay final judgment on them ;) I just don't remember enough specific, detailed points to write a review of a game I played 9 months ago. It's the same for wrestling matches actually, although a specific match can be re-watched in 30 minutes while an RPG can take 1.5-2 weeks to replay :(

T5DR didn't come out until 2005...

I don't think Evo's one player mode is that good. Maybe one of the best one player modes in a fighting game but still not worth playing the game for. No AI or modes ever capture the feel of playing humans.

Also, just for Andrew....GGXX is lame. Except Bridget.

Considering I'm on, I might as well say I voted Guitar Hero II. Its the only game I play constantly (minus Madden). And fuck, if I can get people who absolutely HATE video games to enjoy it, I think it should win. Sadly, some of these said people are in my family, but regardless, people have a blast with it.

I played it, and I have to say that I was really disappointed by the game. It had its good points, but a lot of it felt bogged down by what felt like filler and stuff that reminded me why I dislike RPG's these days. Not a bad game overall, but I wouldn't vote it game of the year or "BEST SUIKODEN EVER!" like I have heard it called by some people.(I'm not referring to Misawa here, BTW.)

Guest Princess Leena

There isn't many PC games here.

Most of those MMORPGers are too busy playing 15 hours a day.

I voted Okami. It's a beautiful game, and incredibly fun. Great controls, and it's a BIG game. The only thing I can say bad about it is it's just way too easy.

Guitar Hero II is the shit. Freebird co-op on hard is pretty much a mandate for when me and my friends are going to head home.

FFXII is also great. Good story, battle system and characters. (Balthier is freakin' COOL) It's nice to see the FF series get back to an epic medievel storyline after all the lovey-dovey stuff of the past three.

Haven't played the new Zelda.

Overall, a really good year for games.

Whoa--a number of lurking posters crawled out of the woodwork.

And Muzz, sorry but only nominated games can recieve votes--unless you were just making conversation. :)

Just saying, at least there's something. A good old strategy game is still up there with the best.

:P You exagerate on the 15 hours Leena. Besides, MMORPGers know that MMORPGs aren't game of the years. Hell, most of us bitch often and long about the game not fully realizing its potential or going "OMG! TEY'D NEF'D MY BEST SKILLZ! Y?!" and so on.
