The OAO ECW Thread for 1/16/07

Recommended Posts

I forgot one thing, again from PWInsider:

-Hardcore Holly is injured pretty badly right now because of nerve damage to his arm. There's no word on how long he'll be out.

I hate to hear that, and I hope he comes back from it like he did from the other injury, but wow. This sure makes that job CM Punk did to Holly mean that much more. :P

Another injury for Holly? Damn, poor guy, he was doing very good in ECW too.

Still, that is some dumb shit. They could at least REFER to his past athletic exploits, couldn't they? I mean, I remember Jim Ross referring to Faarooq's past FSU glory as a football star.

Not like Brown had many options though, he had basically burnt his bridge with TNA.

He's also billed as from "The Animal Kingdom."

This was the only thing I liked about his debut.

I lol'd.

yea, but instead they went the "Goldberg" route. or the route that WWE took with every wrestler form another company back in the day (harley race that exciting new rooking for example)

I must admit, I can't wait to see Sandman eat up 5 minutes on his entrance at the Royal Rumble, give some beer to a kid, smash cans over his head, cane a couple shlubs, and be thrown right out.

For kicks, I'll pick him to be the j-brone in the Final 4 since every year some underdog tends to make it that far.

I wish it is Sandman, and not the guy I think it will be (Kenny)

Watched the ep of ECW today. Is it just me or are his mic skills better on WWE than they were in TNA? He seems much better on the mic. Maybe because WWE writes the promos for him...Also thought it was funny the crowd started chanting ECW when he did the pounce...

As noted, WWE made him tone down the truly crack induced rants that he would do on TNA. He always had the intensity on the mic, it was a matter of focus and saying anything coherent.

From PWInsider:

-They had Sandman do that horrible job on ECW because they are very high on Elijah Burke and see a lot in the guy. They have major plans for him and look at him as someone that they could mold into a major star.

-Paul Heyman is still under WWE contract simply because they don't want him to go to TNA.

-The Brad Armstrong experiment with him on ECW with Styles and Tazz is more than likely over, as many have stated that they do notice that he wasn't doing that great at all.

-Sabu is on the verge of being let go, and it could happen any time now.

-Everyone considers what they did to RVD on the ECW show to be a message sent straight to him, and everyone understands it loud and clear. RVD is very disgusted with not only how he's been treated lately, but also disgusted over what the ECW brand has become.

All of this isobvious, but still, there ya go.

I wonder if RVD owns the rights to his ring name.

I'm guessing he has it trademarked. He's seemed like one of those guys who has his crap together, as far as his business dealings go.

Then again, I would've thought the Dudleys would still be the Dudleys in TNA.

Anything that was copyrighted by ECW is now owned by WWE.....that's where the Dudleys lost theirs........if RVD or Rob Van Dam was copyrighted by ECW.....it's owned by WWE.

I'm pretty sure I read an interview with RVD before he came back from injury where he said that he gave WWE permission to market his name, but that he himself retained the right to use it elsewhere should he leave WWE. I think he'd be even more dead in the water than the Dudleys if it wasn't the case.

And by the way, if WWE saw much in Elijah Burke he would have never been moved off SD in the first place. Having seen quite a bit of him in OVW I can safely say he sucks.

If WWE doesn't have any plans to give RVD the ECW title by Mania then it's time for him to get one of those "HBK leg injuries", WWE has made a lot of money from Rob and he doesn't get the respect he deserves from them.

I don't think that was the excat thing. I thought it was the Dudleys thought they had it copyrighted....or they had thought Heyman owned the name or something like that but it turned out the Dudley name wasn't trademarked at all and before Vince let all 3 Dudleys go, he got Dudley, Bubba Ray, Spike, and "get the tables" all trademarked/copyrighted then let them all go to fuck them over. The only one that it really didn't fuck over was Devon because Devon is his actual name, he just can't spell it D-Von.

Last I heard, Rob owns the rights to his name and allows the WWE to use and market it like cabbageboy mentioned. What he might end up losing is "Mr. PPV", "Mr. Monday Night", and "The Whole Damn/F'n Show".

We might find out pretty soon as I don't think Rob is long for the E anymore.

Heyman owned the rights, and he "gave" them to Bubba and D-Von, but because he never officially transferred the rights to them, when WWE bought up ECW they officially obtained the rights. They're apparently still interested in taking WWE to court over the rights, since they used it previously and some other legal loophole.

Also, WWE owns the rights to the Rob Van Dam name, and according to the Trademark Electronic Search System, oddly enough:

"ROB VAN DAM" DOES NOT IDENTIFY A LIVING INDIVIDUAL.

Hrm....I always though they lost it when WWE made the purchase of "ECW intellectual properties" anything ECW ever copyrighted is owned by WWE since then.

Personally I like Rob, but this situation is just stupid on both sides. It's like 2 stubborn kids who don't understand the other sides point. In the end Rob is basically fucked because he fucked up when they gave him a chance....

I don't understand though, what exactly is the message being sent straight to RVD? If you fuck up once, (AND OUR CREATIVE DEPARTMENT HATES YOU) then you never get a second chance? To me the message is kind of a lot of smoke being blown out someone's ass because history shows that Vince McMahon gives second, and third, and fourth chances to workers that he personally likes and/or wants to push.

If I remember correctly, RVD already received his punishment, he dropped both titles, and was suspended and de-pushed. So after all of that he comes back, is still the most over guy on the card, just about the only guy the fans would accept as the ECW champ, and even seemingly starts getting a semi-push again back into the title scene.

Did RVD do something AGAIN, to put a halt to it or to fuck it all up again, or is this just a case of WWE Creative wanting to establish WWECW as a Vince McMahon production.....?

They didn't want to push RVD and for everyone who didn't his fuck up his justification to them, if you aren't a favorite it's hard to get a push especially when you fuck up when they give you one...

RVD also really hurt himself when he refused to go to Iraq, they were royally pissed about that.

It's just WWE's double standards, RVD gets caught by cops with weed and they want to punish him like he was the second coming of Hitler, Orton gets caught with weed and he's still being treated as the second coming of the ROCK or JBL starts doing Nazi gestures in Germany (which is against German laws) and he gets a long ass World title reign. RVD refuses to go to Iraq since (according to WWE) is not mandatory and he has to pay penance for it, the son-in-law and his little BUTT buddy don't go to Iraq but they still get treated like they were selling out arenas. RVD did the crime and he paid for it, there's no need for this b.s. right now because WWECW needs Rob more than he needs them.

What's dumb is someone will say "Just because they say it's voluntary doesn't mean it is" then give examples like football practice or a job where if you don't attent something that is voluntary you'll get fired.

They just shouldn't say it's voluntary if they think that way.
