This week in the NBA

Recommended Posts

The Spurs ran out of steam which is to be expected, but since I can't stand them either I enjoyed watching them fall apart at the end. A 7 game Suns/Spurs series would probably have at least 150 instances of someone complaining about a bad call/no call just if you included Nash, D'Antoni, Duncan, Manu and Pop. I don't know that I could watch that. If the league was going by the "zero tolerance" rule that series would end up seeing guys suspended every other game.

I can still see the Spurs making a big road trip out of this, though. Even as tired as the Spurs were after the Utah game, the Suns still only reached 100 after a few garbage buckets. The rest of the trip is against teams from the East, so I could see them running the table the rest of the way through it.

And its half time and we learn how dominant the Spurs are over the SUns because they play great Defense and the suns play none, and how San Antonio is such a superior team. Half time score: Spurs 53- Suns 50

They make me larf.

He would be the first scoring leader not to make the all star team and the highest PPG ever to not make the Allstar team.

I personally would still take HOward and Camby though.

I still fail to see how a guy missing games but still leading the league in scoring isn't All-Star worthy. People really need to get off of this PC bullshit and just realize that if Carmelo had missed 15 games due to injury instead of a suckerpunch he'd be on the team. He shouldn't have been suspended for that long in the first place and is still averaging 31.3-5.7-4 while shooting 49%. If he's not an All-Star then no one else in the league is either. This isn't the MLB Hall of Fame where character supposedly matters. Anthony's an idiot, but that shouldn't prevent him from being deemed one of the best players in the West based on what he's done on the court.

It's not PC bullshit. It's the fact that Carmelo got into a fight and was suspended for 15 games. Not only did he set his team back big time, he took himself off the court for almost half of the season. Why should he be rewarded for that?

Because the NBA All-Star game rewards people who put up stats, nothing else. When you've got an accused rapist and a few accused wifebeaters making the team every year character is not relevant. His stats are more than deserving. End of story.

BTW, 15 missed games out of 43 is barely a 3rd of the season they've played. Everyone keeps saying he's missed half of the season to date, which is not true. And just to be a dick, his suspension helped them land AI which could end up putting his team in a better position at the end of the season.

Again, none of that actually matters because ON THE COURT Carmelo leads the world in scoring, chips in with about 6 boards and 4 assists and is doing so while hitting about half of his shots. What more does a player need to do to become an All-Star for ON THE COURT performance?

By the way, I mentioned earlier that I think Carmelo was a snub. However, if he fails to make the team, I don't think he can really argue about being cheated out of it. This is NOT a character issue. It's an ON THE COURT issue. If you miss 15 games, you are working from an automatic disadvantage, regardless of what you do in the other 25 games.

If you miss 15 out of 43 games, that should count against your All-Star chances, no matter what you missed those games for. Whatever, I don't really care about all-star games, and I don't know why anybody should. I'm not losing sleep over Carmelo Anthony getting snubbed.

If anyone got snubbed, it's Zach Randolph. So what if he plays on the Blazers? He's playing the best ball of his career right now and definitely among the league's best at the moment.

And one of the things he did on the court was get his ass suspended for 15 games. It doesn't matter if you agree with the suspension or not, he missed 15 games as a result of a totally avoidable action on his part.

I'm a huge Carmelo Anthony fan and he was obviously on track to be an all-star, but I wouldn't have put him on my all-star team, leading scorer avg. wise or not. He's pretty far down on my list of 'snubs' behind Deron Williams, Josh Howard, Elton Brand, Zach Randolph, Ray Allen and probably a few more.

I've got a bigger problem with Allen Iverson making the team than Melo not making it. He's played, what, 10 games in the West? 35 games total? I wouldn't put him ahead of the guys I mentioned who've actually played in the West all season...

Big win for the Pacers tonight over the Lakers. Jeff Foster is the man of the hour, with 9 points, 12 boards, 3 steals and great defense on Lamar Odom. We've really got to get Marquis Daniels back, though, we can't be letting guys like Smush Parker go for 20 a night on us. No offense, of course.

All right, let's go, Seattle. A loss by the Bulls here would bring us within half a game of them for the 5 spot.

I was just looking at a recap of Denver/Portland tonight and saw this note.

Denver outscored Portland 31-0 on fast breaks.

That almost seems like it wouldn't be possible to do.

Andrew Bynum has got to work on his strength. That's the only problem I have with him, is that he's probably the weakest big man in the history of the league.

I know, I'm not impatient or anything. It just gets a little frustrating seeing the way he goes up with the ball, that's it.

For those that don't know, dude could barely bench 135 pounds when the Lakers drafted him.

Are you fuckin' serious? My 110-pound wrestling and powerlifting teammates in high school could crawl outta bed and bench at least 135. Even the girls!!!

Curry takes out his anger out of being snubbed on Dwight Howard for 27 points, and the Knicks win 94-86. Howard may be the better all-around player, but Curry had his way with him.

Never thought a 116-110 game would end with the Pacers getting a road victory, but they did tonight against Memphis to go 5 games over .500 for the first time this season. Ike Diogu showed everyone why the Pacer brass was so high on him, going for 19/9, both season highs.

Now if the fucking Cavs or Bulls would lose a couple, we'd be in great shape.

Bulls have lost more than a couple, Alf. They're perilously underachieving right now.

So Phoenix falls to 1-7 vs the Mavs, Spurs, Jazz and Lakers with their loss tonight. Being 36-3 against the rest of the league is not so bad, but that has to be cause for concern.
