My Top 50 Raw Moments

Recommended Posts

I don't know about your next top 50 list, but this thread got me thinking about what everyone considers to be the best Raw matches. I don't know what type of list would best suit that- a top 10, top 25, or maybe the top 2 or 3 of each year.

Off the top of my head, I've got to believe that the following are definite top 10 contenders:

Perfect vs. Flair

Michaels vs. Jannetty

Bret vs. 1-2-3 Kid

Bulldog vs. Owen

Bulldog & Owen vs. Michaels & Austin

Benoit & Jericho vs. Austin & HHH*

I love a lot of '93-'94 stuff and '97 has some solid matches. '98 and '99 probably get ZERO because nothing ever went more than 5 minutes, stayed in the ring, or had a finish. I'm sure there are a bunch of good ones from 2000 and 2001 but I'm drawing a huge blank right now. As for 2002 and beyond, well, that's where I lost a lot of interest, so I'm not really the best person to comment on that era.

*Upon re-watching this it's really not as great of an actual match as I remember- still a terrific atmosphere though

HBK/Shelton should be on any Raw top 20 list. I'd put the Jeff Hardy/UT ladder match up there somewhere as well. Probably toss in HHH/Austin vs. Benoit/Jericho for the tag titles (the quad tear match) as well as Jericho/HHH for the title featuring Jericho's fake win.

I'll put my 2 cents in for Top RAW matches, in no particular order (except the first choice):

Owen/Bulldog vs Austin/Michaels, Tag Titles match (my favorite RAW match ever)

Flair vs Perfect, Loser leaves RAW

Angle vs Benoit (cage)

Great Sasuke vs Taka Michinoku, rematch from Canadian Stampede

Owen vs Bulldog, Euro Title finals

Michaels vs Benoit, Showdown in the Desert

Michaels vs Jannetty, IC Title match

Austin/HHH vs Jericho/Benoit, Tag Titles match

Triple H vs Michaels, World Title match

Eddie vs RVD, IC Title ladder match

EDIT: barron and CanadianChris made me realize that the Austin vs Benoit match I included wasn't on RAW so I placed Sasuke vs TAKA instead.

SECOND EDIT: Dammit, I just remembered HBK vs Trips when they both had their shoulders pinned and Bisch gave the win to HHH. I had to bump another match, so sadly HBK vs Shelton is out but gets #11.

Jeff Hardy Vs. Undertaker-Ladder Match for the WWE Undisputed Title > TAKA Michinoku vs Triple H

Even though TAKA/HHH was great for what it was....They coulda let Jeff have the Belt until SmackDown!....Jeff's shining moment in my opinion...

What happened after the match just sealed that match for me...Top 15 Raw Matches ever at least...

Triple H picked Flair- Austin said he had to face a former world champion and HHH picked Flair, thinking Flair would lay down for him.

ok thanx for clarifying I guess I remembered it wrong (then again havent seen it since the original airing, only the match on the flair dvd, but I could swear austin just picked flair)

24. BANG BANG 9/22/97

This was a pretty famous episode of raw. Raw was being held at msg. There was suppose to be a streetfight between hhh and dude love. Dude Love was shown on the titantron and said that he doesn't do streetfights. Then mankind appeared on screen and told dude love that he wasn't going to be in the match either but he knew who would want in. Cactus Jack then appeared and went down to the ring. This was mick foleys wwf debut as cactus jack and where better than msg. The match itself was by the numbers stuff but this was one of my favorite moments.

Normally I wouldn't count two seperate things from one show but something else happened on this episode of raw. We will get to that later.

One of my favorite Raw moments if simply for the fact that all three Faces of Foley appeared on screen at the same time, in the "Love Shack". Mankind screaming "CACTUS JACK....IS BACK!" while Dude Love busted a few moves and Cactus appeared on live television for the first time in a few years...fan-freaking-tastic. Trash flying from behind the curtain, HHH's complete "OH SHIT!" expression, and Chyna's wasted dive to break up the pinfall at the very end were just golden.
