Youth N Asia Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Not a shock, none of the movies opening this week looked like a serious threat for the top spot. Next week doesn't look strong either, but probably a new number 1
Ginger Snaps Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 When does the Mark Wahlberg movie open?
Hawk 34 Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Next weekend. That'll probably be #1 with $25-28 million. He's coming off momentum from Departed, he's always a good action movie guy and these kind of movies play well. Turtles and Reign Over Me also open. Sandler in a drama doesn't sell and I don't see alot of buzz for the Turtles.
In Credible Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I think turtles is actually going to do pretty well, most people that grew up on it will take their kids if they have them. And some will actually go see it for the memories. I'm glad 300 is doing so well.
Red Baron Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Considering all the hype Dead Silence got, I'm quite surprised that it only showed in 1800 theatres.
Pegasus Kid Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I'd be shocked if TMNT didn't destroy everything next week. As an old fan I don't think the flick looks that great but it has appeal across all ages, which is always good for opening weekend gross.
Corkscrew_Senton Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I couldn't fathom Norbit making money in its opening week, let only its sixth or seventh.
Youth N Asia Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Black Snake must have limited release. Only one theater within 50 miles is playing it here
razazteca Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I couldn't fathom Norbit making money in its opening week, let only its sixth or seventh. Just think if they promoted the costars it could of made more money but apparently going with the Eddie Murphy plays 10 roles in a movie gimmick = $100 million.
Insanity Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 The promoting over TMNT has been a joke. I never saw ads anywhere, never saw any trailers in theaters, and when I heard it was opening this month a few weeks back I was shocked. The only thing it's got going for it is that it's going to be a family film against an army of Rated-R films (Hills Have Eyes II, 300, Shooter) I predict a 10 million opening.
cd213 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Don't sleep on The Hills Have Eyes 2. Horror franchises usually do well in their opening week recently, at least the Rated-R ones; see Hostel, the Saw films, Dawn of the Dead 2004, Texas Chainwsaw Massacre remake and The Hills Have Eyes remake.

I'd prefer if Eddie Murphy plays ZERO roles.

I liked the Hills Have Eyes remake. A lot. Like way more than any person should. With that said I don't have high hopes for this. But yeah it should make some nice money.
Gary Floyd Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Eh, the only reason to look forward to the HHOE 2 is the fact that the trailer for 28 Weeks Later comes with it. Also, the first trailer for Rob Zombie's (sigh) remake of Halloween is going to be attatched to Grindhouse.
RedJed Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I dont think TMNT is going to beat Hills Have Eyes 2 this coming weekend for what its' worth.....hell I wouldnt be shocked to see 300 maybe win one more week, or at worst still be in the top 3-4. Weird side note on Norbit - not that I plan on seeing it or anything, but its been playing at the discount theater here for the last 2 to 3 weeks. Pretty odd they would throw a film that is still in the top 10 there. This same theater just finally dropped Casino Royale this past Friday, as an example of the fare they usually have. Saw that Dead Silence on Friday and was surprised - I admittedly had low expectations but it wasn't nearly as hokey or lame as I thought. The Jigsaw doll even makes a cameo in the background of one scene (since the Saw creator/director did this one).
