Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2007 I thought we could use a thread to just fill with stupid things that politicians and other public figures say. So whenever Pat Robertson, John Kerry, Trent Lott, etc. stick their foots in their mouths, we can log those here. I'll start with Tom Delay. By charging this big lie, liberals have finally joined the ranks of scoundrels like Hitler.Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX), in his new book No Retreat, No Surrender, on being charged with violating Texas campaign-finance laws
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2007 Lieberman gave him a good talking-to for that bit last night. Maybe the GOP faithful, desperate to have the 'conservative' wool pulled over their eyes yet again, will enjoy a Newt/Delay ticket next year.
Toshiaki Koala 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2007 "I felt like a nigger." --Ralph Nader in 2005, on being left off presidential ballots in some southern states. It happened two years ago but it's too hilarious not to mention.

Because it's proven" - Jean Chretien in late 2002, in the fading days of his mind. Poor Chretien. He could speak both French and English, but never really made any sense in either language. It's probably why he held power for so long.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 It's like shooting fish in a barrel, so I'll only pick one from Mister Dubya: "Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Dr. Zaius 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 The other half of that was him calling English the "language of prosperity." What the hell does that even mean?
Ripper 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 And to tack on, Newt doesn't think American kids should be taught any other language and that bi lingual studies erode the strength of this country. So its not only in America that everyone should speak English. All those other ghetto countries should learn english to so when we visit they can speak to us. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 To get ahead in the United States, you really do need to speak English fluently. That is an undisputable fact.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 To get ahead in the United States, you really do need to speak English fluently. That is an undisputable fact. Except its not. Real Estate, Stock Market are both big industries that have plenty of people getting ahead and not being able to speak English fluently. They have a working understanding of the language. Plus once again, Newt doesn't want american kids to learn any other language. How is that helpful? Newt is nothing but that old racist xenophobe that yells at people in public for not speaking english because this is AMERICA.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 OK, I see your point. Maybe "fluently" was the wrong choice of word, so I'll give you that. And, yes, I think it's admirable to want to learn another language. I've tried, and it's tough (especially when you're into high school).

Ginger Snaps 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Because everyone that doesn't speak English lives in the ghetto.
