Matt Young 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2007 I'll be getting both. It takes a lot for a cheapass like myself to part with $200, much less be eager to do so. I already wanted Rock Band (I had discussed with friends how awesome it would eb before it was even announced) but check out that video link I posted if you're skeptical. luke-o 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2007 200 bucks is really cheap when you think about what your getting. But why is the guitar 20 bucks more on the 360 than the PS3? Oh, and Stone Temple Pilots - Vasoline And they could have picked so many other good Foo tracks, but they went for the obvious one. Lame. I'm not a fan of Metallica but I would have prefered Sad but True to Sandman.

Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 So why are Metallica songs suddenly appearing in music games? Did they lower their price, or are the makers just ponying up the money?

Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 It's different because it's pretty much 3-4 games in one, 3-4 fully fleshed out games. Guitar, bass, drums, and karaoke. All four modes are excellent, especially the drums. Add to that the fact that they have already announced an ass load of downloadable content, including full albums for certain bands, and I don't see how you can go wrong. Plus it has Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld from South Park as a playable song. <a href="http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/897/897524/vids_1.html" target="_blank">http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/897/897524/vids_1.html</a> From the GAF board: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=204875 I was inspired by the thread over at "the other" forums and decided that it was long enough that we had to wait for one of these so here it is. *It goes (Year Recorded, Time of Song) Band - Album - Song COVERS = ** Main Setlist 1960's (1969, 4:31) Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed - Gimme Shelter 1970's **(1970, 2:50) Black Sabbath - Paranoid - Paranoid **(1970, 2:30) Mountain - Climbing! - Mississippi Queen (1971, 6:08) Deep Purple - Machine Head - Highway Star (1971, 8:32) The Who - Who's Next - Won't Get Fooled Again (1972, 3:25) David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - Suffragette City **(1973, 4:06) Sweet - Desolation Boulevard - Ballroom Blitz **(1974, 5:33) Aerosmith - Get Your Wings - Train Kept A-Rollin' **(1975, 9:49) The Outlaws - Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides (1975, 2:10) The Ramones - Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop (1976, 7:47) Boston - Boston - Foreplay/Long Time (1976, 5:08) Blue Öyster Cult - Agents Of Fortune - Don't Fear the Reaper (1976, 5:20) Kiss - Destroyer - Detroit Rock City (1978, 2:50) The Police - Outlandos d'Amour - Next To You (1979, 4:58) Molly Hatchet - Flirtin' With Disaster - Flirtin' With Disaster 1980's **(1980, 4:33) Rush - Moving Pictures - Tom Sawyer **(1982, 3:50) Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast - Run To The Hills (1982, 3:06) The Clash - Combat Rock - Should I Stay or Should I Go (1986, 5:08) Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet - Wanted Dead or Alive (1988, 4:51) Faith No More - The Real Thing - Epic (1988, 3:51) R. Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 I hope those of you that want this game pre-ordered: http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars...-last-christmas Rock Band is going to be a hot ticket this year, and since Ben is handling the review, I have to buy mine like a civilian. I just got off the phone with the EBGames and GameStop stores here in town and discovered an interesting fact: The Rock Band bundle is going to be very—VERY—hard to come by this holiday season. I preordered Rock Band the day before Guitar Hero 3 was released, and that has turned out to be a good move. I called up my local EB (staffed by cool people, defying the stereotype) to check and see if they were doing a midnight release. Apparently EB/GameStop corporate has canceled the midnight launch parties at a number of stores. Many locations are only going to get enough units to cover their preorders and then... ...no more units until next year. When I contacted another local GameStop, they told me the same thing and informed me that they were only allowed to sell four preorders for the whole store. They, as well, are expecting no additional Rock Band bundles until next year. We made a few more calls in other areas of the country and there are still some stores having midnight launches, but everyone expressed doubts about restocks. If you're serious about getting the game, make the calls to your local stores, and get there early.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 IGN Review: Closing Comments Rock Band is a great game. The presentation elements are top-notch and take music games to a new level; consider the bar raised. Though there are three separate solo careers, Rock Band is best experienced with a group of friends. The only major concerns are with the hardware. The guitar is inferior to other versions on the market and it seems likely that before Rock Band II arrives, many will have broken their drum kits (how long can you beat that thing before it dies?). Still, this is an excellent game overall. Anyone who invests the extra money to purchase some of the stellar downloadable content is certain to be playing Rock Band well into next year. Heck, you can tell by the mammoth size of this review just how much there is to say about Rock Band. Without question, Rock Band is one of the must-have games of the year. The overall 10 Presentation Simply amazing. The Band World Tour offers a fantastic new take on a career mode for a music game. The on-stage antics are above and beyond anything from Guitar Hero. 8.0 Graphics The character models are nice and the 40+ venues have excellent detail. 9.0 Sound Some of the 45 tracks offered are really not that great. But everything sounds good and having the crowd signing songs with you is an awesome experience. 9.0 Gameplay There's no doubt that many of the guitar sections are meant for a more casual audience. The drums and vocals make up for this though. Band World Tour is solid. 9.5 Lasting Appeal There are only 45 licensed tracks, and not all of them are great songs. But the BWT has legs and the upcoming downloadable content should extend the lifespan considerably. 9.4 Outstanding OVERALL
Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 From the IGN review: ...the World Tour mode becomes a good learning tool for aspiring drummers. I can get through the entire Guitar Hero series on expert, but I had a hard time just keeping up with medium on drums on a few songs the first time I played. However, the experience itself was great fun, and pushed me to work even harder. I eventually got through all the songs on hard, and can get through many on expert now. I will say that the transition from medium to hard seems like a big leap. Not only do you add the dreaded kick pedal (getting my foot and hands to do something completely different from one another proved to be a Zen experience where I had to turn off my brain and become one with the drum set), but you'll also be hitting two pads at once on several occasions, sometimes in conjunction with the kick pedal. On expert you're basically playing the real drum parts, so if you can do that, start a real band. You can also use Rock Band as a workout regimen, as you'll work up quite a sweat playing on hard or expert. This just sounds so awesome indeed.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 I have no idea where I'm going to find this on launch date, but I'm going to give it a shot. Maybe I'll get lucky and one of the chains that don't take preorders will have one.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2007 My cousin got very lucky. He called me last night to ask me a question around 11:30 or 12, and after that I got to talking to him about the eBay prices for Rock Band, reviews for it, and all of that. I called the local WalMart and asked if they had any of the 360 bundles, and they said they had two. Anyway, he ended up emailing me in the middle of the night, around 2am, letting me know he went to buy both. So, he'll keep one, eBay the other, and it'll just about pay for both of them. Broward83 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2007 Game is pretty much as people expect it to be, which is damned good. Going thru on Medium on Guitar. Just got to Chicago after playing the Rio set and doing a few of the DL songs. (Got the Metallica pack, the Police pack, and Juke Box Hero. Sucks that most of the songs are covers) So, anyone that's up to start a Rock Band!!!!!, I'll join up on bass. PS: Only flaw I can find is that on some instances, the guitar registers you pushing the orange fret button when you push the blue fret. It's fucked me up a few times. Ced 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 Finally got to play the drums as they finally have a Rock Band demo setup at my local Best Buy. I've played DrumMania for eternity now, so the way Rock Band's drum pads are positioned feel awkward to me. The feel of the frets and strum on the new Rock Band guitar are going to take some getting used to as well. I'm still on the fence on a purchase, but I'm leaning towards getting the full set while I still can.
