Pirates of the Carribean 3

Recommended Posts

Thought it was decent but more than a few steps down from the first two. I suppose I'm one of the few who thought the second film was the best of the series(Come on! Flesh eating tribes, sea monsters, curses, a badass bar brawl...everything you could want out of a pirate movie.).

Anyway, I loved Singapore but everything else kind of dragged on from there, and the constant side playing did grow old quick. The atmosphere wasn't as rich, the humor wasn't as a spot on, and the action set pieces were nowhere near as fresh and exciting as those from the previous films. Despite the extended running time, many of the more interesting characters had little to do, especially Jack, Jones and Barbosa. Meanwhile, Miss Swan had too much to do...eh.

On the brightside:

-Again, Singapore was great

-Keith Richards' cameo ruled

-The frozen toe scene was awesome dark comedy

-The whirlpool and Beckett's death was badass

-Calypso is hot and charismatic so it was nice to see her get more screen time though the crab stuff was lame

"What was with those crabs carrying the Black Pearl to sea? Just doesn't make sense that a bunch of random crabs would do that. "

It's fairly obvious that was Calypso.

But she hadn't been released yet...

Oh well.

I think it was just some goofy thing in the locker.

My favorite part of this one was how every 15-20 minutes there was a lengthy sequence that was deeply surreal or very tangential to what was actually happening. I love when studios get $150 million and just fuck around with it.

She still evidently had magic and they make a point to have her turn into the same sea crabs when she was released, implying some sort of relationship....well yeah, it's just weirdness. I don't recall the details anymore, but I do remember getting the impression it was Calypso's magic at the time it happened.

Just got back.

Now before i go on, Ive been told im not a fair judge as i didnt like the first film but thought the second one was ok.

But i really didnt get on with this one.

Its 2 hours and 45 minutes, and for 2 hours, nothing happens. But the action scenes at the end where great.

For the lead love story of the film, they could have done better casting than Keira "Im english, but put on an english accent" Knightly and Orlando "I REALLY cant act yet get loads of film roles" Bland. Both of them annoyed me throughout the film, it was like watching two planks of wood talk to each other. It just felt like they had no chemistry between them and it was just forced.

Rush was awesome. Best thing in the film.

Richards appears to be the only person in the world who can do a worse Keith Richards impression that Johnny Depp.

Im not buying Orlando Bland as the captain. He just looked like a tool.

Depp was good, he was better in the other films though.

The special effects were FANTASTIC.

With the exception of Rush, Nighy and Depp, everyone was outacted by the fucking Monkey.

But, like Spiderman 3, no matter how much bad press this film gets, it will still cripple the box office and do really well with merchandise and all that. And hats off to Disney for making a great money making trilogy. It may not be to my taste, but its done pretty bloody well for itself.
