Jacques Martin was going to make it really hard for Muckler (the guy who fired him) to get Roberts, and, I love Gary Roberts, but he's not worth overpaying for. I don't hate Aki Berg, he was just a Toronto media whipping boy, for the most part. The Star had an article about him playing well in the Finnish league and questioned if it was b/c he was no longer under media scrutiny. I can't believe there'd be a team willing to take that load of a contract, but a guy can dream. If JFJ can jettison both Raycroft and McCabe, there might be hope for him yet. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2007 Reports have both contracts being front loaded (especially Timonen's with 30 of the 38 million being paid in the first 4 years). So even if the cap number's stay at 6.3 for Timonen and 4.2 for Hannan, the actual money to pay out in the last couple years is much less making them movable if the performance isn't there. Hannan is a signing out of Joe Banner's playbook for the Eagles, who they had meetings with to learn about working under a cap, to lock up a young player long term even if it means overpaying a bit and project the future performance (same theory as Kesler last year). Can certainly bite them in the ass but you have to take the chance. I love the fact, though, that they have addressed these two positions before the draft and still have the no.2 in the cards. This gives them much more leverage in not having to trade away the pick if it isn't the right deal. Speaking of, any MTL fans help me out here. What is the deal with Chris Higgins? I really hope every single jersey doesn't get revamped. Just take the exsisting jerseys and switch them over to the new jersey material and all will be well. Ducks may be getting a 3rd or brand new jersey with the webbed D on the chest. I thought there was some rule that you can't have a third jersey until you wear your new jerseys for 2 or 3 years. You can wear vintage jerseys as a third and it won't count because they aren't debuting in the league. The way around that may be the new jersey unveiling. What makes an NHL jersey so nice is that every jersey has something unique about it. I don't care if they adopt the material for every jersey if they are better for the players, but they don't need to fuck around with designs that already work. It matched the Wizards, and are sort of DC colors in that you see them on seals and stuff at press conferences. The old Caps sweaters from the Landover years looked cheap and dated as fuck from day one. Why would you recreate any aspect of that era? Start fresh. If they touch Chicago's sweaters, which they surely will, I'm going to be pissed. The other updates I've heard about (serifs on the Bruins' B, an anime-style turquoise/orange San Jose Shark, Senators using the Angry Cartoon Senator full-time, something that inexplicably makes the Lightning look worse) have me worried. It's not overly gaudy with logos or colors and everyone can easily make out what team it is. Also, if it's just green on black, where did the gold go? The gold/black/green uni they've had for the longest time works and there's no need to change it.
