KingPK Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 (edited) Was the rook trying to show he has a pair? EDIT: JD Drew up to hit the game-ending DP here. EDIT 2: Well, the final out anyway. Edited August 30, 2007 by KingPK
Boon Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 What an embarrassing series. No killer instinct, losing Ramirez. Awful.
DrainYou42 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 It's pretty sad, when the only enjoyment I can get out of a Sox/Yanks series, is Beckett calling Chamberlin ''a fucking cunt''
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 I don't want to hear complaints about the Mets' bullpen again. Our season may now rests on the right arm of Jose Mesa. Shouldn't we have fixed this given four years? 3-0. God Fucking Damnit.
Spaceman Spiff Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Hey Al - I'm at work & just checked the ESPN.com gamecast - any reason they took out Romero after 2 batters? Match-ups? Cuz Alfonseca did such a bang-up job there.

EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 Learned a lesson today by the way. Do not watch Jose Mesa pitch with a baseball sitting nearby. I now have a dent the size of a baseball on my bedroom wall.
mike546 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 I'm watching and wondering what Mesa did that was so awful? Alfonseca fucked everything up. btw I think the Phils are still winning this game. Wagner for 2 innings? edit: see. theres one.
Brett Favre Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Joba, some advice. If you want to hit a guy, HIT HIM! None of this lobbing the ball over his head shit. Throwing at his head is more intimidating than plunking him on his ass.

Alfonseca fucked everything up. btw I think the Phils are still winning this game. Wagner for 2 innings? edit: see. theres one. 1. Mesa came in after the disaster and immediately walked the first batter on four pitches. That's maddening. 2. Mesa sucked four years ago when his meltdowns cost the Phils a division title. He's four years older and still sucks. There's no reason to carry a washed up pitcher with a 5.65 ERA on the club. It would be more efficient to put Shane Victorino on the mound and have him lop baseballs into the outfield.
mike546 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Exit Sandman, Wagner. You ain't got shit on Mo.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 I can't blame Wagner for this one, except that he can't hold runners.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 Holy crap! Phillies sweep!!!
Spaceman Spiff Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Greg Dobbs just dropped a "motherfucker" on Comcast (camera was in the dugout).
Spaceman Spiff Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Also, why couldn't Pat Burrell play this awesome during the 1st half of the season?
milliondollarchamp Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Greg Dobbs just dropped a "motherfucker" on Comcast (camera was in the dugout). I was wondering who that was. I am going to say it the Phillies will win the division.
NYU Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Well, Billy Wagner blew another save. Well, how about that. I anxiously await Bruiser tossing some hollow statistics at me about Wagner at some point tonight.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 I just returned from the Baseball Game of the Year. Oh my God what a rollercoaster. HOLY SHIT I'm so pumped. I'm furious about certain pitchers, and WHY THE FUCK THEY PULLED ROMERO for The Fat Men Who Can't Pitch, but goddamn if it didn't end like a Disney movie. I'll say this though, I don't entirely hate Mets fans, they were their in force, were passionate, even more so than the other games in the series. The Phillies fans give pinch hitter Marlon Anderson a standing ovation. The Mets give Alfonseca a standing ovation and chant his name. Two turds getting their props.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 Well, Billy Wagner blew another save. Well, how about that. I anxiously await Bruiser tossing some hollow statistics at me about Wagner at some point tonight. Wagner went two innings. He gave up three hits in the ninth, all singles. It's not like they teed off.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 Concerning Romero, it's worth remembering he worked four days in a row (counting this game). The Phils may not have wanted to stretch him.
strummer Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Thank God the Mets only have 3 more games with the Phillies and after the weekend 3 with the Braves. The September schedule may save this team with games with Nats, Marlins, Astros, Reds.

I anxiously await Bruiser tossing some hollow statistics at me about Wagner at some point tonight. Wagner went two innings. He gave up three hits in the ninth, all singles. It's not like they teed off. Al, the closer's job is to make sure he gets the save. That is his job. If he does not get the save -- rather, if he blows the save -- then he is not doing his job. It does not matter the way he does it. It does not matter if he gave up a homerun or he issued five walks in a row or he gave up three singles. If he does not close the game, then he did not do what he was paid to do. Period. And besides that, I would think giving up three hits in the ninth would actually be worse than giving up only one homerun for a loss. At least with the homerun, you could argue he made one sloppy pitch and that single mistake cost him the game. With the three singles, there is no defense. He had his worst stuff, he wasn't tricking any of them out there, and as the season gets closer to an end, he is becoming increasingly more unreliable. Is he going to blame this on his "dead arm"? Perhaps. Well then, he shouldn't be out there closing until he's healthy, because it's becoming a detriment to the team. No, the other three games the Mets lost to the Phillies doesn't come down to Wagner. But this one does. Giving up three earned runs after how many days of rest is not acceptable for a Major League Baseball closer. Any of them.

NYU Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Yes, overreacting. Watching the Mets bullpen dwindle a six game lead down to two in a matter of four days is certainly not a reason for concern.

Watching the Mets bullpen dwindle a six game lead down to two in a matter of four days is certainly not a reason for concern. Billy Wagner 2007 stats: 2.05 ERA (ERA+ of 205!) 1.07 WHIP 69/18 K/BB in 57 innings 87.9 % Save rate He's unbelievably awesome. You are totally overreacting, Mets swoon aside.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 "He gave up three hits in the ninth, all singles. It's not like they teed off." You're forgetting when Pat Burrell teed off on him in the 8th and hit another clutch home run off him. Wagner: "Ah er duh uh he uh has one swing I uh threw it there". Let's be real here, though. Billy Wagner is, IMO, the best closer in baseball. There's a few pretty good closers, though, so I say IMO. Today was just a game between two teams who refused to go down and the Phillies snuck out with the last at bats.
