They used to have St. Hubert's all over the place in Ontario back 15-20 years ago, but I haven't seen one in years.

Yeah, most of the ones I remember outside Ottawa are gone. There are still two in Ottawa -- one on St. Laurent just south of Innes, and one on St. Joseph Blvd. in Orleans. The one on Carling and Richmond (near my condo) closed in a dispute with the landlord several years ago, which sucked.

That's right. I remember the one on St. Laurent, but I never go into Orleans.

When I was eighteen and spending my spring break with a bunch of friends from high school in Montreal a dude who was waiting in line behind us gave us the weirdest advice....

"If you see any St. Hubert's in Montreal, turn around and walk the other way. They only put those in gay areas."

National Chain-Wise....

- The Keg

- Swiss Chalet

- Harveys

Locally.......

- Rubicon Grill

- La Cantina Mexicana (who knew that fried cactus strips could be so delicious?)

- Tomato Cafe on Marlee Avenue, just down the road from where I moved in. Tried their pizza the first night and my roomates and I laughed off any ideas of ever ordering from Dominoes or Pizza Pizza, both of which are in the area too.

La Trattoria in Greenwood, IN for atmosphere and phenomenal Italian cuisine.

Jupiter's in Champaign, IL for the best pizza I've ever had.

India Garden in Champaign, IL for their saag aloo.

The Druid in Cambridge, MA for fish and chips the way they are meant to be served.

Buca di Beppo for the most amazing Seafood Pasta dish ever. If you have one in your area, take advantage.

Jimmy John's or Subway. The only "fast food" that I eat.

You forgot to mention that the family size dishes are huge and good for probably 3-4 people, at very reasonable prices.

Back from Vancouver, and I have to say that Thai-Malay restaurant Tropika is pretty good. It's not as good as Restauran Malaysia here in the GTA (noodle dishes are too sweet), but good curry, excellent crab, and the roti is tasty and a decent size.

The serving portions are nice, as I have a soft spot for doggy-bags. I forget the name of the dish, but the pasta with calamari/crab/mussels/shrimp is a must.

Speaking of Thia food, I left out an important place from back home: Nitaya Thai in Champaign, IL for their tofu dishes and spring rolls.

Has anyone ever heard of Shakey's?

Pizza? I'm pretty sure a lot of people have. They're in Southern California, at least, that's where I saw them. Also very prominently featured in South Park.

You know what pizza place I haven't been to in forever is Godfather's. There's like one of them in so cal, right by Disneyland, and my dad wouldn't let us go there anymore after somebody was smoking a joint out front once.

Also right next to Disneyland is Po Folks, another great place. There were a lot of them back east, but that one by Disneyland was the only one in the west I knew of. They had excellent sweet tea, which you could have as much of as you wanted while you waited for a table. I guess it was like... soul food or something. You know, fried chicken, catfish, cornbread, that type of thing.

Chainwise, I frequent Subway as I travel a lot for my job and that's the closest thing to "healthy" fast food available. Schlotzky's is another good sandwich chain. I do like burgers though, and there's a nice variety of places to choose from... fuck a bunch of McD's or BK though.

Local restaurant wise, I admit I don't do too much exploring, but I can name a few good BBQ, Mexican and pizza places from both here in Kansas and back from my time in Minnesota.

There's a surprising amount of decent barbecue places here in Maine and if I was forced at gunpoint to pick a favorite kind of food, it'd probably be barbecue. My favorite place would be Beale Street Barbecue, damn good stuff.

For Italian, my favorite is a local chain (I think there are 4 of 'em now), Espo's Trattoria. Good food. Huge portions

Full Belly Deli is my favorite place for sandwiches. Great Jewish deli. But Amato's Italian Sandwich shop (Another local chain- think they're expanding in Massachusetts and Vermont now) is a close 2nd.

So many good burger places. The one I frequent the most is Andy's Grill, a little hole in the wall place down the street. Great burgers and fresh cut fries. Harmon's probably has the best burgers but it's always packed and their burgers are small.

Herb's Gully and Granny's Burritos in downtown Portland are tops for burritos. I can't pick which one is my favorite. Both are awesome but kind of hippie-ish.

For pizza, I like The Portland House of Pizza. It seems like pretty much any restauarant here named *insert name of town* House of Pizza is awesome. Love the eggplant pizza.

For fast food, I like Popeye's but there's only one in the entire state and it's a good 45-50 minute drive. I guess my favorites would be Wendy's and Taco Bell but I'll pretty much eat any of that garbage.

Quiznos is great, but I can't eat there very often. I get sucked into getting a roast beef and I don't feel like dying anytime soon.

Carl's Jr has good chicken sandwiches, as does Wendy's. I don't eat fast food very often. Last time I had fast food was about 3 months ago at In N Out on Azusa coming home from LA. It was one of the older ones, from left to right, drivethru.tinyassbuildingwheretheymakefood.drivethru with a walk-up in front. Girl working the walk-up was cute, that was where I went. For that reason and because I can't sit in a car waiting for food.

It's a chain place, but Old Spaghetti Factory is great. What I can eat at most places is limited due to my stomach condition, but I can eat things there and go away unscathed. I don't experiment with many of the non-chain local places, I have to go with the known.

I used to work at The Old Spaghetti Factory as a waiter, and you know those horror stories about restaurants from the people who work there?

I have none about The Old Spaghetti Factory. Amazingly clean and well run kitchens.
