Copper Feel Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Unless you are counting the whole "the world is yours" coming from nothing to rich kingpin kinda thing. "I'm like Scarface, sniffing cocaine".
Ravenbomb Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 It's really long is part of the problem. More movie = more chances to sample something.
haws bah gawd Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 From last fall to the spring of this year I worked in a Gamestop in a mostly-black town. When the Scarface game was launched, all I heard was how Scarface was everyone's "OG" and "off the chain". I caught Scarface on AMC several months ago because I wanted to see what all the hype was. Well, color me disappointed on the whole thing. I don't have a whole lot to say about it, but IMO it wasn't this masterpiece that it's been built up to be.
Ravenbomb Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 I just wonder how many of these people have actually SEEN Scarface...
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 I just wonder how many of these people have actually SEEN Scarface... I would assume most to all. All rappers that had a cribs edition showed off their copy of Scarface.
Ravenbomb Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Not the rappers, the people who listen to the rap and go around wearing that same Scarface shirt while talking about how much of a "G" he was.
Ripper Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Dude, its fucking scarface. Its not like they are talking about some rare artifact. That shit is 9.99 at walmart. It comes on TNT for christ sake. Of course they have seen Scarface.
Ravenbomb Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I guess I'd rather them not have seen it than them be too stupid to realize that it's obviously a cautionary tale.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Carlito's Way >>>>>>>> Scarface.
Ripper Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I guess I'd rather them not have seen it than them be too stupid to realize that it's obviously a cautionary tale. Well if it was a better movie it would be a obvious cautionary tale. What it ended up being is a movie where Tony is obviously cooler than everyone else including the police, and it took an entire army to take him down in the end which is like the ultimate way to die in macho land. He had nothing and ended up with a huge house, millions of dollars and a fountain with the world is yours in it. Sure, he died at the end, but hell, so did Butch and Sundance, and Shane, but I wouldn't call either of them cautionary tales either. The movie glorified Tony from start to finish. The only thing cautionary about it was don't do alot of coke when you get money from selling it. I guess we are supposed to feel bad when he kills his friend for fucking his sister, but he was a fucking idiot for fucking someone you have seen Tony kill people for fucking her. And his sister would fuck the most random stranger in a bathroom, I am pretty sure there was no shortage of those in the coke empire. So don't call the people who saw how cool the character was stupid. Call the writing of that overrated movie stupid. Scarface is in the same vein as Commando. If you take it seroiusly you will see how incredibly stupid it is. Which is fine, and you will never hear people call Commando a thought inspiring movie. But people pretend Scarface has some deeper messesage when it is nothing more than another mindless flick.
haws bah gawd Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 ^^ Speaking of Commando..... *Arnold holds Sully over a cliff with one arm, by his ankle* "Hey Sully, remember when I said I was going to kill you last?" "YES, MATRIX! THATS WHAT YOU SAID!" "I lied......" *drops Sully off a cliff* *Arnold elbows big burly black guy in the face then snaps his neck* "Stewardess, could you point me towards the bathroom? .......... Oh, and please don't disturb my friend......he's dead tired". We could make an entire thread about funny stuff from Commando.
Ripper Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Its easily one of the greatest "sit around and laugh at" movie ever made.
Black Lushus Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 and it still holds up amazingly well today...of course as I said in the Video Game forum "nostalgia's a helluva drug"
