NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Green Bay came off looking pretty one-dimensional tonight. They won't score on Washington's Defense next week much if they don't learn what a running game is. Detroit brought it's #1 passing offense to Fed Ex Field earlier today, but forgot about a running game, and they put up a big THREE points on the scoreboard. Of course, Green Bay is better overall team then Detroit(although I would say Detroit has a better WR core) and I expect them to score more than three points on Washington, but if they play as one-dimensional as they did tonight, and allow Washington's secondary to sit back in the passing lanes, then Farve is going to break his INT record a few times over next Sunday. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 OK, find where I said it was OK just because he wasn't hurt. I said Green wasn't intentionally trying to injure the dude, and that it was poorly executed. I'm trying to determine at what point "Well, he's a QB and doesn't know how to block" stops being a vaild excuse. Green has been playing football for probably close to 25 years. He HAD to have picked up a few things in that time. I've spent nearly my entire football career as a defensive lineman but I could execute a 10 yard out and catch the ball. It might be ugly, but I could do it. At the NFL level, I am much less willing to accept ignorance as an excuse. Green went straight at Johnson's knees and got kneed in the head. A guy with a history of concussions should have known better. If nothing else run with Johnson (I've seen him in person, he ain't that fast) and simply get in his way or "ole" block him. Johnson wasn't going to catch Ginn. I applaud Green's effort and willingness to help, but I condemn him for risking injury to himself and other players. Also, Johnson should have kept his fat trap shut after the game. Don't talk shit to the press about a guy who got injured (no matter how it happened) while you walked away. It makes you look like an even bigger asshole.
Kawalimus 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 This isn't a Bears Packer topic though this i s an NFL WEEK 5 topic. So I can do that. And what about happened in 2005? My Ravens were 6-10 bad year Steelers went 11-5 year they won the superbowl. That was Roethlisberger second season and guess what happened in Baltimore who won? It wasn't Pittsburgh again. We almost swept em even nearly beat em in Pittsburgh. So you See these divisional rivalries you never know what's gonna happen. Why do you think Willie Parker never does anything agianst my Ravens and guess what the Steeler record is against Baltimore since Parker took over at running back? That's right it's 1-3 in favor of Baltimore. Cause Willie Parker don't do damage to the Ravens. And then Ben Roethlisberger has to do the work and he can never do it Himself. But how come against Seattle he does ok? That's cause Seattle is out of division west coast NFC team. So they're not built for it or mentally conditioned. But my Ravens are and always get up for the Steeler games. If Willie Parker gets no yards this year against the Ravens we might sweep em again unless Samari Rolle Trevor Pryce still out. You fans remember this? http://youtube.com/watch?v=UGSr2ZaWa9k That's what Willie Parker is like when he is against Baltimore. No big runs. No good blocks just a nuisance and no running game for the steelers. Will that change? I hope not but if my Ravens can't get their penetration together it might. But If not you can expect Steelers losses agianst the ravens for as long as Kelly Gregg, Haloti Ngata, Terrell Suggs(GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER), Trevor Pryce on that defensive line. Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 This IS the "NFL WEEK 5" topic, so please stop bringing up 2005 shit; nobody cares. However, since you talk about 2005 garbage in week 5, I will assume the trend will continue linearly. As such, I look forward to your timely posts in week 7, and will be bringing a notepad to the TSM boards for weeks 8 through 17 for future gambling purposes. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 How was that 2005 Favre? He was near-perfect the entire first half, the first pick was incredibly dumb, and the second was a hail mary. If James Jones doesn't cough up the ball, twice, in scoring range the Packers would've had a winning margin the Bears presumably wouldn't have closed. Maybe 2005 Favre greased the ball for Jones, though.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Ok Billick, WHY is McNair playing? HE CANNOT COMPLETE SHORT PASSES CORRECTLY!!! FIRE BILLICK NOW!! Lucked out with PI there. Now DRIVE the ball use your weapons! You got it backwards. Short passes are all McNair can make..its Billick's new offensive genius, beat the other team with repeated 5 yard passes. Fuck throwing the ball farther than that. McNairs longest pass was 18 yards to Derrick Mason and that was on a 3rd and 4 right before the 2 min warning in the 4th quarter, go figure. I think he made only 4 or 5 of his 29 completions for more than 10 yards. No deep passing threat essentially is the reason why they stall out on drives all the time and cant score TDs. They were lucky to win yesterday, but if anyone says it was a defensive slugfest needs their eyes pulled out. Both offenses were putrid.
Kawalimus 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Sorry I meant to say *He cannot even complete short passes correctly. But even with messed up groin he wasn't bad as Dilfer was. I am so sick of seeing people say that we should had kept Dilfer cause "he won you a Superbowl!". He was never any good. Just like Billick is no good nether, and he "won" us a superbowl as much as Dilfer did. Let me tell you there were a couple reasons more important than Billick we won that year. They were Ray Lewis, Rod Woodson, Shannon Sharpe. TREMENDOUS on field leadership. Though Billick's hands off method did help that happen. But see those three were the leaders. And guess what they all preached a high result style got the most out of the team. They weren't really greatest team but they got by cause of those great leaders. We don't have those great leaders anymore only Ray Lewis and he can't do it alone. Mason is good but no Shannon Sharpe. McNair has to sit a few weeks till his groin is completely healed so he can plant his foot again and put zip on those passes and more accuracy. Boller must start these next two weeks. Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Falcons lose a game in Titans after a horrid showing by the offense. I have been saying for weeks, as soon as Joey Harrington faces a secondary that could catch, we would be in trouble. Well, he had one pick returned for a touchdown yesterday, but he should have had FOUR. (Two were dropped, one was called back because the DT lined up in the neutral zone). That lead to him being replace by Byron Leftwich who proceeded to throw about 5 passes to the invisible 15 foot wide reciever we signed apparently. And horrible play calling on the first and goal at the one. Albert Hanesworth made an awesome play, so instead of powering the ball in with their big, expensive FB, they went to the pass. Twice. And with Wayne Gandy getting hurt on 3rd down, they put in a rookie who hadn't played all day and lined him up to go one on one with Kyle Vanden Bosch because the coaches didn't send the running back to the other side to help. Anyone that knows anything about football knew how the game was going to end before it ball was snapped. The defense played great though. And Special Teams were incredible. All for nothing though because the QB's couldn't get anything going yesterday.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 I don't really see how Leftwich is the answer in Atlanta. Given that Jacksonville released Leftwich and they are playing just fine with Garrard, I have to wonder if Leftwich was hindering the Jags more than he was helping. No because the Jaguars have not been playing that well. Someone mentioned they should be 1-3 not 3-1 prior to yesterday's game.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 As dominant as the Patriots were against Cleveland, their defense still worries me at times. Two of the interceptions were deflected passes (Asante made a really nice snare with his right hand on the ball out of the air) but they also allowed 287 yards and 2 TD to Anderson. The Browns could've added a TD if not for the first deflected INT and the Patriots red zone continues to struggle (Gostkowski had 2 field goals of 20 and 25 yards). I definitely think the Colts and Cowboys could give them a fight. Broncos have an outside shot if they can give Cutler time and establish a running game before the Patriots get up too big. Wright only had 15 carries but there were times where he was doing decent damage. Wright had 6 runs of 5 yards or more and Lewis' only run was for 11 yards. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 The thing about the Pats, Cowboys, & Indy right now is that they are wearing down the opposing defenses in the first half of games. Some of their games are going into half-time close, giving the mirage that they might get upset, but really, they dominated the TOP and the opposing defense is basically spent half-way through the 3rd quarter, and that is when the scoreboard starts lighting up for them. It is classic football 101. The problem though, is when they run into a defense that can consistently get their offenses off the field with 3 & Outs. How will they respond. The Patriots and Colts are both World Champions, so you have to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point, but lets hold off on the Cowboys until they play some stiffer competition. I still would like to see how the Cowboys offense reacts if/when they get down by a couple of scores. I still question their ability to run the ball against a good run defense. Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 I don't really see how Leftwich is the answer in Atlanta. Given that Jacksonville released Leftwich and they are playing just fine with Garrard, I have to wonder if Leftwich was hindering the Jags more than he was helping. The answer in Atlanta liked to fight dogs. The QB situation there is fucked, incredibly fucked. Putting in Leftwich was mindnumbingly stupid last game. He hasn't played with the first team offense, he didn't know most of the audibles, his snap count was different, which led to some offsides penalties, and he held the ball too long looking for the deep stuff because he thats all they were running. If they were going to pull Joey, they should have put in Redman, the number 2, since he had more work in the offense. The coaches really dropped the ball here. The offensive line is taking a beating in the local press, but I am convienced that the sports writers and "fans" here have no idea what they fuck to expect from a football team. If you QB gets sacked after 5 seconds in the pocket, its not the offensive lines fault. You should expect more than 3-4 seconds from a pass rush. Anything extra is a luxury, not a given. Find me a good offensive line and I will show a QB that makes quick decisions and gets rid of the ball.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 So Ripper, who are the Falcons going to go to for a quarterback of the future? I know it's earlier but with your coach and the way things are going, are you expecting Brohm to be the quarterback of the future or you think they will give Leftwich an extended stay atop the depth chart and get something else?
Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Its in the air now. The players are publically calling out the coaches for their bad coaching calls and with it coming from guys like Dunn and Crumpler who never really complain, that is something. I wouldn't count on Petirno being around for the length of that contract unless they get a superstar QB(not because he gets fired. Because something crazy like the LSU job opening up). And I just don't see one in the college ranks right now honestly. I see some decent QB's that could be a starter, but I don't see any franchise building guys. As for Leftwich, he isn't really the future guy honestly, but could be the short term guy. They need a more mobile guy, something Joey and Byron aren't. Call it crazy, but I think by the start of next year when the season tickets don't sell out, and games are being blacked out again, Blank won't be too against resigning Vick when he gets back out of prison. A whole marketing campain about how sorry he is and redemption and oweing it to the city and a bunch of other bullshit. If that doesn't happened(which it probably won't), I think I will be looking at a football wasteland for the next 5 years and will have to go to games again because they will never be on TV. They will draft one of the big QB's out of college next year and he will Joey Harrington it and we will see this team keep going down. This is when I get to see the real fans. All 4 or 5 of us. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 The Jags are a team that never seems to win impressively, it's just their style to get those 13-7 type wins. They are a poor man's Baltimore Ravens. Anyway, is Brohm really the answer for the Falcons in the draft? I dunno. He's really not much different stylistically than Harrington and Leftwich.
MFer 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Andre Woodson anyone? And speaking of the NFC South, the Saints are gonna have a hard time winning in Seattle next week.
