Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 McGuinness out indefinitely By Bryan Alvarez ROH Champion Nigel McGuinness was diagnosed with a torn biceps and is out of action indefinitely. The belief is that with proper rest he can avoid surgery, and the belief is that he will be able to return by Final Battle weekend at the end of December. It appears ROH has no plans of stripping him of the title. F4W Online
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 That's a bad hit for Nigel. ROH will be fine since the focus for this weekend is devoted to Misawa and the shows that follow already have enough going for it but it's still a bummer to see Nigel get knocked with this after such a long chase to the title. Garth 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2007 Such a shame that this injury had to happen now, I can't think of a worse time to go down with an injury. Seems they kept him well enough involved over the weekend, popping up all over both the shows. Hopefully his match with Hero didn't set back his recovery time any. AntiLeaf33 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2007 What a shitty time to get hurt. Would be nice if he isn't down for long so he doesn't get stripped of the title.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2007 Assuming he didn't hurt himself any further, I'm glad he was able to make that title defense against Chris Hero. It won't seem so bad not having him there for the late November/early December weekend. Morishima missed quite a few weekends during his reign, so now the only difference is that the champion has a different excuse for not being there. If Nigel isn't going to be ready much past Final Battle weekend, I would assume he will be dropping the belt to either Aries or Dragon.
Guest MadManOnTheWater Report post Posted November 8, 2007 At what point does someone bring up the internet talking point that a torn biceps is one of the injuries that has to mean steroid abuse?
Human Fly 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2007 At what point does someone bring up the internet talking point that a torn biceps is one of the injuries that has to mean steroid abuse? Are you trying to say that muscle tears are not a common side effect of steroid use? That being said we are not talking about the muscle completely tearing and rolling up into his arm like what seems to happen every time in the E. If Nigel denied steroid use, I would take him at his word.
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 As long as he doesn't get stripped of the title I'm happy. Ive been rooting for McGuinness to win the title for quite some time.

Are you trying to say that muscle tears are not a common side effect of steroid use? No, I'm just wondering if NM would get a relative free pass on questioning about possible steroid use compared to a WWE wrestler who is less of a net-smark darling suffering a similar injury. I don't watch ROH, couldn't pick him out of a crowd, so less mention may just be a function of ROH being less popular than WWE, but I do wonder if a guy like McGuinness would not be as scrutinized as much in the same way that Chris Benoit was not criticized as much as JBL for his role in backstage hazing incidents because it doesn't fit in with the narrative that the WWE creates a culture of roid monsters. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 You do have a point. There is no way in hell Mark Briscoe isn't on some sort of steroid, be it legal supplement or otherwise, because the kid gained a ton of muscle mass in a relatively short period of time. Then again, he very well COULD have put it on via lots of exercise (since when he started in RoH I do believe he was still in high school, if not fresh out of it) that he has more time for, but yeah...something a little fishy there. Jay, though, he's always been pretty big. I doubt that McGuinness' injury is from roid use/abuse, though. I'm not saying this because I know him, or because I'm a huge fan (I've seen three of his matches, albeit I've loved all three), or even some armchair expert on roided-out bodies, but...what would he have to gain? His fans like him for his charisma and technical prowess, so why even try to get bigger than he already is when it could hinder the latter reason?
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 Didn't Mark take nearly two years off in the business? He really did blow up in size when he returned to ROH since he was quite skinny when he left. While I won't argue the possibility of steroids, he did have a significant amount of down time in his career.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 Aye, aye. That's why I'm not 100% sure he's on some sort of juice. He might have just studied how to build a lot of muscle mass...or he might have found a distributor to give him that shit.
