The goalie they called up probably will make more than Bryzgalov this season. If Hiller were to hit all his bonuses, he'd make 3.2 million. There has to be more than meets the eye to this.

Plus, they gave up a #1 caliber goalie for FREE.

Bryzgalov on waivers is one of the dumbest moves I've seen in the post-lockout era.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a prelude to Selanne coming back.

I thought I recalled Niedermayer saying he was on the fence this week, leaning more towards a December return.

I read that Burke tried to trade him, but couldn't get anything for him. I call bs there. I think Burke was trying to rip someone off and didn't get any bites on that. But you're telling me that Pittsburgh wouldn't bite on a trade for draft picks or prospects? To get a starting goaltender? I doubt that.

However, if that is true, and Burke couldn't get anything worthwhile for Bryzgalov this means that Glen Murray and his albatross contract are with the Bruins for the long haul. Nobody is going to take on a 4.1 million dollar a year scorer that isn't scoring with one of the best passers in the league feeding him night after night.

Chicago's too good for him to fall that far down the waiver pecking order. It's Phoenix, Pittsburgh or LA, in that order. If he fell further, I'd be stunned.

Three-goal first by the Sabres.

They won 85 percent of the draws, and didn't allow Montreal a shot for nine minutes. Who thought there'd be a negative side effect to putting Tom Kostopolous on the front line?

If nothing else Ryder looked a lot more motivated tonight when he was playing on the third line, plus he got a goal which is always good for the confidence. As long as he gets the puck on net, then team him with Saku and Higgins and the top line should start to click again.

Any goalie that can shut this team out is good. That's the one thing the Kings can do right, score goals.

Great game with the Bruins and Habs right now.

Scoring has gone 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 4-3. Habs have the lead right now, but Price is looking awfully beatable and had terrible positioning on two of Boston's three goals. Even the corpse of Glen Murray has pitched in with a goal and assist so far.

Right now, it's not that the Habs are winning, it's the Bruins are making too many mistakes and turnovers leading to Habs goals. I expect Julien is thrashing them right now and I fully expect them to pull this one out.

I'm pretty disappointed it's not on here; Ron McLean described it as "lots of action", and you pretty well cemented it, Max. I'd like to see the Habs play on the grounds that Price has had 'terrible positioning', which certainly wasn't the case on Tuesday.

Pretty wacky fucking day in the NHL. The aforementioned Bryzaglov thing (I felt terribly for Gretz yesterday), Toronto never ever beats Ottawa, I doubt if New Jersey scored six goals this month before tonight, Chicago beats Detroit AGAIN (4-0 this year, by my count?), and Montreal's up 7-4 midway through the third.

Scabs win 7-4 with some very creative penalty calling late in the game.

Chara hit Kovalev high and was facing an elbowing penalty when Latandresse hulks up and starts a fight with Chara. Chara drops him with two to the jaw, gets a 10 minute misconduct, an instigator penalty, 5 for fighting and the two minute elbowing call. Latandresse gets two for roughing(!), which leads to a six minute Scabs powerplay.

Also, Mark Stuart hulked up twice, putting Kostitsyn down once, making Carbonneau almost blow out his frosted tips yelling at Julien. With under a minute to go, Kostopoulous jumps Stuart and gets a quick right to the face and a quick take down.

I'm not saying this because I'm a Habs fan, but this might have been the most fun I've ever had in a hockey thread here.

Teemu Selanne, or else some other Finn; they all look like monkeys.

Natural hat trick for Patrick Sharp. Detroit has become Chicago's bitch and I love it.

Thank God we didn't lose to Columbus last night. We don't need a 4-game losing streak in the Conference to start up now. I'd wager that, right now, the Central is the most dangerous conference in the NHL. I don't know where these teams have been waiting, but Chicago, St. Louis, and Columbus have suddenly become serious threats and the Predators are managing to hold on after having most of their team sold off in the off-season. Oy.

The Habs are getting the puck on the net a lot lately, which is good for a change. Gerber had a fee flurries where he stopped shot after shot. We just need a bit of timely goaltending during stetches like that. It kills the team when they have a good 2 minutes of constant pressure, and the next time the Sens go up the ice the puck is in our net.

Nice to see Heatley break his goalless streak. I told everyone around here in the offseason that they should lock up Spezza over Heatley if given a choice, and everyone thought I was crazy. Well, we've seen it over these last few games -- Heatley doesn't score nearly as many goals without Spezza in the middle. He needs Spezza to be a great player (well, really, they need each other).
