Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 Supporting actor in particular is gonna be a bitch to predict, there's a ton of people who could get nominated.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 This isn't so much of what I want to see but what I actually think the nominations and eventual winner will be. *Bold=expected winner Best Picture Atonement Juno Michael Clayton No Country for Old Men There Will Be Blood Best Actor George Clooney-Michael Clayton Johnny Depp-Sweeney Todd Emile Hirsch-Into the Wild Daniel Day-Lewis-There Will Be Blood James McAvoy-Atonement Best Supporting Actor Casey Affleck-Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Javier Bardem-No Country for Old Men Philip Seymour Hoffman-Charlie Wilson’s War Hal Holbrook-Into the Wild Tom Wilkinson-Michael Clayton Best Actress Julie Christie-Away from Her Marion Cotillard-La Vie en Rose Angelina Jolie-A Mighty Heart Keira Knightley-Atonement Ellen Page-Juno Best Supporting Actress Cate Blanchett-I’m Not There Jennifer Garner-Juno Catharine Keener-Into the Wild Amy Ryan-Gone Baby Gone Tilda Swinton-Michael Clayton Best Director Paul Thomas Anderson-There Will Be Blood Joel and Ethan Coen-No Country For Old Men Sidney Lumet-Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead Sean Penn-Into the Wild Julian Schnabel-Diving Bell and the Butterfly
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 I think Bardem is a fairly easy supporting winner, even though I found Ben Foster from 3:10 to Yuma more impressive since I thought he did quite a bit with a cardboard lackey heel role. Was Bardem even a supporting character in NCFOM? He's in more of it than Tommy Lee Jones and in just about as much as Brolin. Best picture: No Country For Old Men Michael Clayton Juno There Will Be Blood Sweeney Todd I will say Juno pulls off an upset here. Atonement won't even get nominated since it is that same Cold Mountain type of "Let's make a prestige picture to win awards!" film that thankfully the Oscars have ignored recently. I'd probably put Gone Baby Gone on here over the Clooney movie, but Clooney has more pull at this point. Anyway, I think NCFOM and TWBB will both split votes since they are sorta in the same ultra bleak vein, and the more positive and upbeat Juno will win (much like with Rocky in 1976 beating Taxi Driver, Network, etc.). I actually am interested in hearing the announcement tomorrow.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Yeah, I'm actually interested for the first time in a while too. Mostly for my boys NCFOM and TWBB. That's the thing about Javier Bardem. He could conceivably be recognized as a lead actor. I'd rather Daniel Day Lewis win that. Keep Bardem in the supporting category and it's a lock. I love both movies so much, I'm unsure of which I want to win best picture. I'd probably go with NCFOM, and have PT Anderson win for best director, as well as DDL for best actor. I've also got my fingers crossed that King of Kong gets best documentary. It so totally was.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Great minds think alike! I was just about to post that I think King of Kongs should get a nod for Best Documentary. Great fucking movie in my Top 10 of '07. Here's what I want to be Best Picture nominees There Will Be Blood No Country for Old Men Before The Devil Knows You're Dead Zodiac Juno What I think will be the nominees There Will Be Blood No Country For Old Men Juno Atonement Sweeney Todd
The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 I just hope there is a shot for Gone Baby Gone in any category. Not on the same level as No Country or TWBB, but it's still a great film that has been forgotten about.
Insanity 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 I'd like to Sweeney Todd at least get nominated for Best Picture or Director.
spiny norman 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Best Actor George Clooney-Michael Clayton Johnny Depp-Sweeney Todd Ryan Gosling-Lars and the Real Girl Emile Hirsch-Into the Wild James McAvoy-Atonement You don't think Daniel Day Lewis will be even nominated? Really? I think Best Picture'll be between Atonement, Juno, No Country For Old Men, Sweeney Todd, There Will Be Blood. People are saying Michael Clayton, but I just don't see it. Craig Th 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Best Picture No Country For Old Men Eastern Promises (WAY underrated. Everyone needs to see this) Juno There Will Be Blood And that's all I saw that was up for other nods. I have Michael Clayton in my computer, I just haven't watched it yet. Same with Atonement. I started to watch The Great Debaters, but got bored instantly.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Best Actor George Clooney-Michael Clayton Johnny Depp-Sweeney Todd Ryan Gosling-Lars and the Real Girl Emile Hirsch-Into the Wild James McAvoy-Atonement You don't think Daniel Day Lewis will be even nominated? Really? I think Best Picture'll be between Atonement, Juno, No Country For Old Men, Sweeney Todd, There Will Be Blood. People are saying Michael Clayton, but I just don't see it. Man, that was a total mis-write from me. I had him on my original sheet and then when I went to re-type it, I deleted it and actually forgot him and added Gosling since he was the only name coming to my mind. That'll be changed. Brocklock 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 For Best Picture No Country, Atonement, and There Will Be Blood are easy choices. After that, Juno's really popular right now so I'll go with that. The fifth nominee is sort of a wild card between Sweeney, Michael Clayton, Into The Wild, and The Dividing Bell and The Butterfly (It's gaining steam. I'll go with Michael Clayton. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 I have to watch Michael Clayton again. I guess I liked it well enough but for some reason when I saw it in theaters three months ago, there were a bunch of annoying 13-14 year olds there that distracted me for the first 45 minutes or so of the movie. I guess they were there cause it starred Danny Ocean. Man, that was the worst movie audience I had been in a while.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Planet Terror isn't getting shit. Special effects maybe and even that's a stretch. The Michael Clayton buzz is strange because everyone I know who saw the movie hated it and it didn't do well at the box office. Anyway, No Country and There Will Be Blood will definatley get most of the love here and Javier Bardem absolutley deserves a win for his performance.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 You must have been in a theater with idiots. Clayton was fantastic.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Im going to see Sweeney Todd on Wednesday with my final $1 coupon since my theatre just did finally add a few showings this past weekend, stupid morons. From what I gather I would expect it to get a nominee in Best Picture/Actor/Actress/Director/Special Effects/Score though it probably wont win shit. I wonder if the Simpsons Movie will get nominated for best Animated Picture...it wont win (Ratatouille will) but that would be really wierd to have the Simpsons nominated for an Oscar. On the subject of Ratatouille Ive heard people saying it deserves outright picture of the year consideration..which I cant see happening but it was one of the best movies I saw in 07. Only other animated movie nominated for Best Picture was Beauty and the Beast.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Since I've no idea what direction the Academy will go, I'll just list what I'd nominate Best Picture: No Country For Old Men Juno The Lookout Eastern Promises Once Director: Coen Brothers - No Country For Old Men David Chronenberg - Eastern Promises Paul Thomas Anderson - There Will Be Blood Werner Herzog - Rescue Dawn David Fincher - Zodiac Leading Actor: Daniel-Day Lewis - There Will Be Blood Viggo Mortensen - Eastern Promises Denzel Washington - American Gangster Christian Bale - Rescue Dawn Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Before the Devil Knows You're Dead Leading Actress: Ashley Judd - Bug Ellen Page - Juno Naomi Watts - Eastern Promises Katherine Heigl - Knocked Up Julie Christy - Away From Her Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem - No Country For Old Men Jeff Daniels - The Lookout Ben Foster - 3:10 to Yuma Steve Zahn - Rescue Dawn Paul Dano - There Will Be Blood Adapted Screenplay: No Country For Old Men There Will Be Blood Zodiac 3:10 to Yuma Bug Original Screenplay: Juno The Lookout Once Before the Devil Knows You're Dead Superbad Documentary: King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters Helvetica Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten Lake of Fire No End In Sight Animated: We Are The Strange Persepolis The Simpsons Movie
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 I've heard good things about Diving Bell and the Butterfly, but it probably will get best foreign film rather than be in the best picture category where it has zero shot. I am also a bit puzzled by the Michael Clayton hype. It looks pretty good, but not best picture type good. Clooney would be nominated but the film didn't get many **** type reviews, more in the *** range. On imdb.com it's getting 7.7, compared to NCFOM at 8.7, TWBB at 9.0 (!!), Juno 8.4, Sweeney Todd at 8.3, and so on. I'm still calling Juno for best picture. TWBB will get Day-Lewis best actor and maybe director, but I feel it will split votes with NCFOM. Anyone else think this will happen?
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Slightly OT, but Persepolis is playing at the local arthouse theater in two weeks and I'm stoked to see it. I'm assuming it'll be between that, Ratatouille and The Simpsons Movie for Best Animated Picture. And I liked Michael Clayton but I'm not sure if it's worthy of a nomination. It was a *** maybe ***1/2 movie but nothing to cream your pants over for.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Yeah, I'm betting that'll be the animated picture lineup as well. Still, it'd be great if We Are the Strange were nominated. If it weren't STV I would've picked Bender's Big Score instead of The Simpson's Movie.
