Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2008 If you're unfamiliar with that fact, you may not have heard his first album I Wish My Brother George Was Here, which Ice Cube appeared on acknowledging their relationship. It's a pretty great album, worthy of this draft, though I'm not going to pick it. I recommend it.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2008 Deltron 3030 is like the ultimate "hip hop for people who don't like hip hop" album.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2008 'Exodus' by Bob Marley & The Wailers (1977) - The lack of Bob Marley so far is mind-blowing. It's Bob Marley, what else needs to be said? Arguable whether this is his best CD but it's my personal favorite and is a great vibe to have on an island.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2008 Deltron 3030 is like the ultimate "hip hop for people who don't like hip hop" album. deltron is boring compared to i wish my brother george was here and no need for alarm. just one man's opinion. although madness is pretty great
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted June 12, 2008 Pacman, you and I are going to have us a debate about the rest of In the Court.., but that's for another thread at another time. "Doesn't quite measure up"???? The rest of that album outright sucks. Check; the title track is decent. (but long)
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2008 Oh, my turn. Now, let's see if I can remember what I was going to pick next... "Unplugged in New York" by Nirvana Good thing live albums are alright to pick. I've never claimed to be a big Nirvana fan, but I always thought this was a hell of an album. It also plays into my bias towards acoustic arrangements.
godthedog 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 ^i'm quickly starting to consider that as nirvana's best album. definitely the one that's most friendly to listen to 10+ years later.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 I'd still favor In Utero over it, but it's easily one of my favorite albums. And that's two picks now (Blood on the Tracks over Swordfishtrombones would be the other) where I was absolutely convinced beyond all reason that an album would still be there for the next round, only to have Ravenbomb fuck up the whole thing. Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2008 You took that Velvet Underground album from me and I've been mad at you ever since.
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2008 I like Deltron 3030, but mostly because I like Hip Hop concept albums (well, not all of them *coughHipHopisDeadcough*)
godthedog 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2008 'hip-hop is dead' is a concept album?
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted June 14, 2008 I almost banned Ravenbomb for taking California.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 The last pick was nearly 72 hours ago, which means that RHR has come and gone and Gene's got his two picks, and then it's back to RHR again for another 24. Anybody think we should cut this to 12 hours like some of the other drafts? Round 16 has taken two weeks.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2008 We'll cut it down to 12 hours for the final few rounds. I'll update the first post.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted June 15, 2008 Just to get it over with: Not a whole lot to say that I haven't gushed in this very folder in the last five years. Probably my favorite metal album of the 90's other than Souls at Zero. My next pick, I'm feelin' metal as well, and I'm goin' old school or no school: Celtic Frost-To Mega Therion Just look at the back cover.. Yes.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2008 Okay, so we're past two separate 12-hour blocks now (RHR and Ravenbomb). Does that mean that TheOriginalOrangeGoblin is up?
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2008 I guess it does. 'Slippery When Wet' by Bon Jovi (1986) - My favorite song of all-time is on it. Not my 2nd favorite Bon Jovi album but I can't live without 'Wanted Dead Or Alive' so this gets the nod as my second album by my favorite band.
Copper Feel 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2008 I hate to be pedantic about the opening post, but Paranoid was released in 1970, not 1971, and the album's called The Songs of Leonard Cohen.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2008 oh, I missed my turn. Well, I guess I'll do that now, then. "Challengers" by The New Pornographers The New Pornographers are probably my favorite band around right now, and I think this is their best album yet. If not best, then a close second to Mass Romantic. But I'm going to say it's the best, because I'm picking this one and it'd be stupid to say "there's this other album that's better" in my "why I picked this album" blurb. Hope you guys don't mind, but I'm going to skip PMing Orange Goblin this round.
RHR 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2008 Sorry guys...thought I was supposed to get a PM when I was up....I will check the board and have my pics within 12 hours...and don't worry...they are my dork out picks...so...I don't think anyone will want them....
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted June 17, 2008 No more sniping at this point, really. Just whip 'em out, people. First come first serve.
RHR 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2008 I'll take these two...unless somebody wants to protest...sorry for the delay... and... Sorry the image is so small on the second one...couldn't find a better picture... So, The Who album I prefer to Tommy, actually. And Naked's album was a favorite of mine back when I was in college...and there is a really sweet memory around the whole album...one I'd like to have on a desert island with me. The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 Since the last pick was made over 40 hours ago, here's the current draft status: Currently on the clock: The Coat Is My Father (Until 1:09 pm Central) Can Pick At Any Time "Hail" bps21 StevieKick the Sperm And, if there is no objection from the folks who have already picked this round, I would put forth the suggestion that the next round (Round 18) be the final round of the draft and we allow for three album picks from each player, to finish off collections at 20 albums. I think it's already pretty well established that many of the albums that people would be competing for are already off the board; if people are just going to be rounding out their collections with personal favorites or bizarre obscurities, then there's no point in taking another month to run through the useless formality of rounds.
