NoCalMike Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 http://themthefilm.com/ just click on "trailer" in the lower left hand corner. I have heard some positive buzz on this one. It comes out towards the end of March on DVD, so I doubt it will hit any major theaters I want to see it.
Gary Floyd Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I've been wanting to see that. Speaking of French horror, I'm looking forward to "Inside" and "Frontier(s)."
NoCalMike Posted February 27, 2008 Author Report Posted February 27, 2008 I saw this one horror flick last year on dvd, not sure if it was french or not but it was definately european. It was about this guy that gets lost trying to take a shortcut through the woods in his car and he stumbles on an older odd couple. The flick got weirder as it went and the ending was downright bizarre, I mean just when you thought there was hope....lol. Anyways I can't for the life of me remember the name of it but it is worth checking out. I could talk more in depth if anyone is interested but I would have to use spoiler tags as I wouldn't want to give away too much of the plot/twist.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I was excited that this would be a remake of the giant ants classic from the 50s , but alas.
The Metal Maniac Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I'm glad I wasn't the only one.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I'll still probably see this, but yeah. I want "formic acid!" and the awesome "ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee" sound.
Guest ravman77 Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Seen this, been out a while on DVD in the UK. Nice little movie. Basically a woman being terrorised in a house by some unseen protagonist(s). Can't really say too much about it without spoiling anything but plenty of tension. No gore to speak of, more suspense. Very European (like Haute Tension type cinema). Definately check it out, I wouldnt imagine you'd be disappointed (unless you were wanting blood and gore).

If so, then the movie you saw was "Calvaire."

Ravenbomb Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 So the Hoodies from Hot Fuzz get a Euro-Horror spin-off. What hath Nicholas Angel unleashed?

A weird dance sequence that comes out of nowhere, anal rape, bestiality, crucifixion, very black humor, forced gender-bending, torture, and more.
Jingus Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 No gore to speak of, more suspense. Very European (like Haute Tension type cinema). Wait. What? Haute Tension was loaded with gory violence.

Haute Tension was loaded with gory violence. While it did have plenty of gory violence (and a shitty finale), Haute Tension mainly worked because it knew how to ratchet up suspense and tension. Or at least that's what I think.
Corey_Lazarus Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 I'm glad I wasn't the only one. Put me in this camp. Easily my favorite 50's monster flick from the US.
Guest ravman77 Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 While it did have plenty of gory violence (and a shitty finale), Haute Tension mainly worked because it knew how to ratchet up suspense and tension. Or at least that's what I think. Yep, that's more what I meant, the suspense in the two movies is very similar. I've also gone back and rewatched Haute Tension (or Switchblade Romance as it's called here) and I'd totally forgotten how much carnage there was in it. Agreed on the shitty (and obvious) ending but otherwise a good movie. Anyway, check out Them!
4hartthreat Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Is the movie coming out in May "The Strangers" a remake of this?
haws bah gawd Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 I thought for a minute, that this topic was about some Frenchmen working on a remake of the giant-ant classic "Them". While it did have plenty of gory violence (and a shitty finale), Haute Tension mainly worked because it knew how to ratchet up suspense and tension. Or at least that's what I think. Yep, that's more what I meant, the suspense in the two movies is very similar. Agreed on the shitty (and obvious) ending but otherwise a good movie. Anyway, check out Them! I was taken by surprise with High Tension's ending the first time I saw the movie, and had to go back and watch it again to get all the clues. Has the blonde from that movie been in anything else? She was all sorts of hot.

4hartthreat Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Is the movie coming out in May "The Strangers" a remake of this? No. Are you sure? It seems very, very similar. It also even has the "based on actual events" tag.
