WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion

Recommended Posts

I hope that Philly show sucks because I'll never see it. I calculated that under the naming policy of using "08" and not "2008", the individual No Mercy matches entire title with numbers would fit on my directory and not confuse my system with an endless loop of titles with the same name. Naturally they changed it to "2008" so I have an endless loop cycle of "WWE No Mercy 2008 Match".

MARCH 2009: LEGENDS OF WRESTLEMANIA

In anticipation of the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, WWE 24/7 Classics celebrates the events, matches and superstars who have made WrestleMania the greatest spectacle in entertainment.

Legends

Hall of Fame: Hulk Hogan – The first WrestleMania was launched on the wave of excitement created by ”Hulkamania”. Celebrate the immortal Hulk Hogan’s spectacular career, from early days battling in the AWA, to becoming a world-wide icon in the WWE and the groundbreaking launch of the nWo in WCW. Hosted by fellow Hall of Famer Gene Okerlund, this career retrospective features legendary rivalries vs. Andre the Giant, the Iron Sheik, “Nature Boy” Ric Flair and The Rock. Plus, see The Hulkster’s emotional 2005 WWE Hall of Fame Induction.

Legends of Wrestling – History of Texas Wrestling – The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania comes to Houston, TX on Sunday, April 5th. But the Lone Star State has long been home to spectacular events and many of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Dusty Rhodes, Jim Ross, Cowboy Bill Watts and Michaels Hayes join host Gene Okerlund for a no-holds-barred, roundtable discussion of the top superstars and memorable shows in the history of Texas wrestling. The panelists tell stories and share their experiences with legendary performers like the Funk Brothers, Dick Murdoch, the Von Erich family, Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The Big Ones

WrestleMania – Relive WrestleMania history with (2) classic events. Head back to Madison Square Garden in 1985 for the historic first WrestleMania. Hulk Hogan teams with Mr. T to battle Rowdy Roddy Piper and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff in the star-studded main event. Plus, “8th Wonder of the World” Andre the Giant looks to bodyslam fellow future Hall of Famer Big John Studd in their colossal battle. Then, relive WrestleMania’s first trip to Texas. At WrestleMania X-Seven, The Rock defends the WWE Championship against Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Undertaker faces Triple H, Mr. McMahon battles son Shane McMahon in a Street Fight, a spectacular TLC WWE Tag Team Title Match and much more.

TV Classics

Countdown to WrestleMania – Get ready for historic WrestleMania events with the shows that set the stage. Before the 1st WrestleMania, All American Wrestling previews the groundbreaking show. Hulk Hogan and Mr. T train for their main event showdown, while Rowdy Roddy Piper welcomes cohorts Paul Orndorff and Cowboy Bob Orton into “Piper’s Pit”. Then, just days before WrestleMania X-Seven, tensions are running high on SmackDown! Stone Cold Steve Austin faces off with the Rock, while the Undertaker confronts Triple H. Plus, Chris Jericho teams with Kane to battle the Big Show and Commissioner William Regal.

The Monday Night War – WWE and WCW continue the battle for Monday Night supremacy. On WWE Raw, Stone Cold Steve Austin has a big surprise for the Rock. D-Generation X battles the Legion of Doom in tag team action, while Dude Love faces the Road Dogg. On Nitro, the excitement builds for Starrcade as “Hitman” Bret Hart makes his WCW debut. Exciting match action includes Curt Hennig vs. “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, Chris Jericho vs. Scott Hall and Booker T vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

Shorties

Legends of WrestleMania – “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase presents the Legends of WrestleMania with classic matches featured in the brand-new video game. Featured contests include Hulk Hogan vs. the Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Mr. Perfect vs. Big Boss Man and many more.

Nice to see they are showing an episode of WWF All American Wrestling

No surprise there, March is always Mania month without fail, though last year's theme was "What are the worst Manias we can show?", so good thing X7 made the cut this year (and I assumed it would). I liked last year's "Show the TV show leading up to WrestleMania" bit and I'm glad they're doing it again, though it is funny that once again a not that great show from Detroit is airing. I think this SmackDown is better than the pre-Mania X8 Raw though, I just recall the matches being too short when I was there live. The best match - Test/Benoit vs. Angle/Eddie - will likely not air either.

Awesome that Superbrawl III won the voting. But I will be very disappointed if they axe the Benoit match, as it's supposed to be quite good.

WWE.Com DID list Scorpio vs. Benoit in the card listing on the website. So maybe they won't axe him out. It would be a shame if they did. Great match with a great finish that got Scorpio over big time.

I'll probably vote for WM X. XII did have Warrior squashing HHH, but I really have no interest in that iron man match again. Yeah it was a great match, but it's kind of dull, and REALLY needed some pinfalls. No pinfalls in an hour was bullshit. And I've never found IV to be worthwhile at all other than to see Savage get his first title.

March is gonna be a slow month for me. I have the Wrestlemania Anthology and original copies of the WWF dvds of manias 15-18. The pre-mania shows are a nice addition though and really looking forward to another Roundtable. Whats up with the shorties? Are they going to air the actual matches or simulate those matches from the video game?

I haven't seen IV in a long time so I might vote for that. X is a fairly bland show aside from Those Matches and I have Bret/Owen on the Bret DVD.

I assume they are airing matches that can occur in the video games (and I just skimmed that until now, so I guess that confirms the Bossman and Mr. Perfect rumour).

I too chose Wrestlemania IV as the Pick Your Big One. I'm not really into the more modern content on WWE 24/7 Classics On Demand.

Superbrawl III was on a few months ago. Probably more like last year now that I think about it.

It would have been on in the summer of 2007. I don't know how it fit the theme and what have you, but I remember it was last on the channel right after the Benoit deal (Mania 23 was up around the same time and pulled until a Benoit vs MVP-less version was made available, IIRC, which I don't think I am, but you know what I mean). I wasn't getting PYBOs at that time so this will be new to me.

I wasn't able to go back to my blogs and see if Superbrawl III was part of the Summer 2007 schedule (because I only started making WWE 24/7 Classics On Demand in-depth schedules back in May 2008), but I think you're correct.

I know some don't like repeats, but I don't mind them.

Oh, I checked out your photos and I really like them. You take wonderful pictures.

Count me in the group that won't complain about repeats, because 24/7 was only recently made available up here. I'd hate to miss out on STINGER, COME TO MY WHITE CASTLE OF FEARRRRRRR! just because it was aired two years ago when I couldn't get 24/7.

Worth noting: A lot of programming at the end appears to be expiring on April 5th, which suggests they're going back to the Sunday night / Monday morning updates they had when I first subscribed in 2006. Prime Time and a 2nd MNW (which would have been a repeat of the Raw we see every Christmas and the nWo Nitro, which I really wanted to review for F4WOnline as a historical look back) appear completely absent too, but March often throws the whole schedule out the door for Mania season.

Owning all of the Wrestlemanias on DVD is going to make March not my favorite month for 24/7, but there's still some good stuff in there. I have no recollection of that Smackdown before WMXVII, so that'll be interesting to see again. Ahh for the days when Smackdown wasn't a seperate brand from Raw.

The 10/11 NWA show next month is the last pre-Magnum T.A. car wreck episode.

And it looks as if we're getting the pre-Wrestlemania I All-American Wrestling as well.

Gosh darn it! I see they're airing the Wal-Mart exclusive 2-disc DVD that was put out last year titled WWE The Greatest Superstars Of Wrestlemania. I bought this last year for $19.99 and it looks like I shouldn't have. I basically get to watch it for free (besides the $7.95 subscription service to WWE 24/7 Classics On Demand).

I really enjoy the build up shows prior to Wrestlemania. I'm glad they're airing more of these this year.

Even without the Benoit match, Vengeance is a really good show.

The one thing I remember from that 2001 SD is Rock giving Austin the Stunner and the crowd shitting themselves. I kind of hope they still have the rights to use "My Way" because the video package that uses it before Austin/Rock is fucking EPIC.
