The 2008 NFL Draft Thread.

Recommended Posts

I don't get the second round pick of the Niners. C'mon, Malcolm Kelly dropped like a stone in this draft, and we don't go for him? Not even James Hardy? And we instead pick an offensive guard? I'd understand if this guy was a no-brainer like Branden Albert, but I don't see the need to take a chance on a guy that'll sit for another year behind Larry Allen. Our glaring holes are an RT that doesn't suck, and a wideout that can catch the ball. Address one of these issues first.

The pick made plenty of sense to me.

Larry Allen isn't even a lock to return, hell, he might even retire from what I have heard. David Baas is also battling injury. The 49ers offensive line took steps backwards last year. So to me, it's actually a decent pick.

I am perfectly content with both picks as well as the Reggie Smith selection in the third.

Here's the question I really have about these receivers though... Did any of the ones drafted fit Mike Martz's system?

I don't know honestly if many of the WRs taken would fit in the Mike Martz system all that well.

Donnie Avery was taken high but could've been a good fit along with players like Harry Douglas and Dexter Jackson in the Az-Hakim role.

Guys to watch for Agent... I think the following could fit well but may not be solid #1s. All of these guys should be 4th to 7th round picks.

Keenan Burton - Kentucky

D.J. Hall - Alabama

William Franklin - Missouri

Ryan Grice-Mullen - Hawaii

Have fun with that one, he constantly got burned deep.

Thanks, man. I don't know a whole lot about any of those guys mentioned, so I'll go with your word.

I heard that he could play both S and CB, so it might not be all that bad. Didn't he play mostly CB at Oklahoma though?

Yeah he only played safety one year.

Here's the thing. He was a good player. He was fast and had good ball skills. The secondary as a unit didn't play well together. They couldn't work together and therefore got burned a lot.

If he gets into a system or with a team where he ends up being able to work with the other players then he'll be a great addition because of his physical ability. He's a good returner too.

Just go to NFL.com

Yeah I just went there. Once again the NFL does something draft-related that is superior to ESPN.

I was wondering if Mayock made Mel Kiper cry? The dude knew more about what he was talking about, got more picks right and didn't get angry when they picked against him.

That really doesn't sound bad at all.

I am also loving the NFL Network coverage as opposed to the ESPN coverage.

Far better coverage.

Two of the mentioned wide receivers went...

William Franklin - Missouri - Drafted by Kansas City Chiefs at 4.06

Keenan Burton - Kentucky - Drafted by St. Louis Rams at 4.30

I also love seeing all of the small school I-AA/FCS guys being picked :D

So far I've liked out 2nd day picks. The CB and LB we picked up are guys we can build up this season, give them some special teams plays and start slotting them into positions as the season goes on.

Slaton was a surpise that I'm happy to have.

Only position that "they" (ESPN, NFL.com) say we need is a safety. We'll probably pick it up with our next pick (151) so we can use the last couple of picks we have to flesh some things out.

Now I just have to hope we stay healthy this year and don't have people spending more time on the DL then they do the field.

I am shocked the Eagles didn't package some of their picks to move up, as they aren't going to have roster room for the rest of their picks. It is why I love the Ikegwuono pick as they'll be able to redshirt him on the IR this season and have a guy with legit talent coming back in 09.

Love what the Giants are doing so far. As I already mentioned, they strengthened, and added depth and youth to their secondary. Now they've hung onto Shockey and bought low on Mario Manningham, both of which have to stay straight and fly right - Shockey has no right to gripe in the huddle any more since it's been proven that they can succeed at the highest level without him, and Manningham has to keep himself clear of trouble, especially since they have so many other WRs as it is.

I'd like to see Adarius Bowman with the next pick. If he proves to be the cocksucker he is reported to be or does prove to be too slow for WR, then cut him. But this late where the Eagles are likely drafting practice squad fodder anyway, take the chance. There isn't any doubting his production at OkSt.

I also think it is pretty ridiculous that Woodson is still on the board. I don't understand how he could be a potential top-10 pick 6 months ago and today is still around in the 6th. Whatever skills he had then are still in that body somewhere.

Sure he could have been overrated before, but not this much.

You can say the same thing about Colt Brennan. The draft is very odd sometimes. I mean, are Josh Johnson and Kevin O'Connell really better prospects than Brennan and Woodson?

Just as I post, I see that Brennan has gone to Washinton, which makes no sense. Jason Campbell is what, 22?

At least with Brennan you could argue he was a product of Hawaii and their competition. Woodson put up monster numbers in "the greatest football conference in the universe".

I'd be thrilled if to have him at this point. Put him on the Brunell, Hasselbeck, Feeley program for a couple years and turn him into a pick through trade.

Damn, who is this dude that just went at it with Mel Keiper? It looked like he was about to reach over the split screen and slap the toupee off his head.

And the fans are booing a Patriots 6TH ROUND pick? Really?

Ha! Man, was I shocked when I logged on today and saw that the Packers have not only taken Brian Brohm but Matt Flynn as well!

I do not get that shit AT ALL, although it's nice to know Green Bay has a couple viable choices at QB now if Rodgers fucks up (or gets injured- dude always gets knocked after playing a single game in the NFL). But still- Favre retired only like a month ago or so, and already they're going to have a QB controversy? Shit. Way to get good value, though. And Patrick Lee is no scrub at #60.

I'd give the Packers' draft (thus far and probably at the end) and probably a B-/C+, going up to a B+ depending on how the picks turn out for Green Bay. I don't agree with taking a WR for their first pick considering we already have 5 great receivers in Driver, Jennings, Jones, Martin, and Robinson. But, seeing as they're focused on improving the team itself and keeping chemistry rather than acquiring free agents and trading for big time name, I loved the fact that they went for the best available player.

What did he do? I like McShay, he's not as arrogant as that prick Kiper.
