The Rio buffet, Cirque du Soleil, also the Tropicana and Monte Carlo's blackjack tables. Video blackjack is useful for getting comped with free drinks at the casinos, although I don't recommend only just doing that.

 

The slots are a total ripoff. Avoid at all costs. I'm not sure where the best place for poker is there, although you should probably play a little while if you can (or want to). Oh, also there's a Gameworks on the strip- pretty fun place. I'll also recommend the Luxor's buffet and Excalibur has a bombass breakfast/brunch one, too.

First off, don't listen to anyone who tells you to put all your money on black, they probably work for the casino.

 

The poker room at Ceasar's was nice, definitely see a Cirque show, Penn+Teller, Blue Man, all good shows. Pure, Rum Jungle, Studio 54 were my favorite clubs. Whatever you do, have fun, don't worry about money, people seem to go there some times with this idea that they're gonna come away with a higher quality of life but it's just a giant adult playground and should be treated as such.

 

Oh and if you see a girl who looks like Ashlee Simpson working a black jack table at any Harrah's casino, she's NOT single, no matter what she tells you.

Granted, but In and Out Burger is a Vegas experience. It's like watching the water show at the Bellagio, you just have to do it.

The best burger in town can be found at the Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay.

 

Penn & Teller are great, I've seen them twice. The Sunday breakfast buffet at Paris is awesome, but get there before 10 to avoid paying the more expensive price. Play some poker at Mirage or Bellagio. And avoid any blackjack tables where they pay 6-5 for a blackjack.

Im thinking about going to Atlantic City with my GF on the way back from NYC/Os game next month. Figure I'll blow whatever money I have left from the $600 government economic stimulus Chinese Welfare Check Im getting sometime this week there. I'll probably have about $100 left after hotel and travel expenses which is enough.

 

Last week I won $100 on $5 a hand video Blackjack up in Delaware, I had to quit while I was ahead and enjoy the crazy drunk (Im assuming, or else he was really stupid) guy who kept feeding it $100 bills (probably an easy grand in about 2 hours) and losing while I was playing on the same $20 that I started on.

A lot of people that have been to Vegas over the past five years or so tell me it is turning into more of a party/resort town then a "gambling" town. They are trying to attract a younger crowd who are more interested in club hopping.

Well, that's kind of true. Really, the gambling part's been steadily deemphasized to the general public for the last decade at least, with all the corporations buying up the casinos. But they still need the gambling, because otherwise you don't have any way to support a billion-dollar resort.

Going to Vegas at the end of June to play in the World Series again, which will be my fourth Vegas trip in the past two years. I stayed at a friend's condo the first time, then Stratosphere and Imperial Palace the last two. I'm staying at TI this time and hopefully I can do better in the Series this year.

Main event or a preliminary tournament?

Prelim. Last year was a limit hold'em event and I finished in the middle of the pack (about 450's out of 900). I had David Chiu at my table and he was a wrecking machine. This year I'm doing a prelim H.O.R.S.E. tourney so that should be fun as I expect a lot more pros will play because of the variety of games. I wish I could afford to play in the Main Event.

Maybe not as many pros as you might think, because the pot-limit Omaha world championship event is running on the same day, as well as the final table of the $50,000 HORSE tournament.

 

Still, good luck. Wish I was doing that. Maybe next year (although I say that every year).

Yeah you're probably right. I didn't even look at the rest of the schedule for that day. Having fewer pros is probably not a bad thing though for my slim chances. Thanks for wishing me luck because I'm realistic enough to know it's going to take quite a bit of it to cash, let alone win. And if you ever get chance to play it's well worth it even if you don't cash/win. The atmosphere and the chance to play against the best make it totally worthwhile.

Lucky bastard, my dad offered me a trip for my birthday, he wants us to do a bunch of the smaller hold 'em tourney's, he tried the Main Event and said it's just a giant fucking headache dealing with that many amatuers. Sadly, I have to work.

My father took me for my Birthday last summer. It's definitely true that it's much more of a party town and the gambling is downplayed much more then it has in previous decades. While there are many extravagant casinos, once you get inside of them, they are all almost identical. I'm hoping to return by myself this summer to experience more of the night life and party stuff, as I missed out on most of that stuff having to spend the week with Pop.
