CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2008 Ok, here's what I came up with: Once the draft is done (any day now), PM me your 1-14 order if the teams were to round robin. I'll tally up points (14 for first, 13 for second, etc.). Each team gets into the playoffs, because nothing says "NHL" like an abundance of teams in the spring. 1 vs. 14, 2 vs. 13 and so on. With those decided, the highest ranked team still playing in the second round recieves a bye. Then, we'll reshuffle the remaning teams in a highest vs. lowest format. Same thing for the third round. As for the head-to-head matchups, I'll assign, via a random draw, two bi-partisan GM's to select a winner. If there's a tie, I'll randomly draw a third GM to break the tie. We'll follow a similar format for the following rounds, with these exceptions: Second Round: Three random GM's per series. Third round: Seven random GM's per series. Fourth Round: Eleven random GM's per series. I'll ensure that each matchup is bipartisan. For the sake of discussion, name a captain with your lines please. Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2008 Leetch is my captain. Could I, in my right mind, not let the 1994 Conn Smyhe winner captain a team selected by a Ranger fan?

Good call, especially since I said bipartisan an estimated 65 times during the set-up. Do 1-13.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Since the talent will do most of the 'heavy-lifting' when it comes to winning games, I don't think a coach will play as large of a role in our league as it does IRL. Thus, I'm going with a guy that will help draw attention to the team in Boston, a city that has hockey in 4th place in their hearts right now. Don Cherry, coach of the Northern Lights Five. And my lines? Joe Juneau Joe Thornton Cam Neely (I don't like the idea of Juneau on the 1st line, but he went for 30 & 72 with Oates & Neely, and Thornton > Oates) Luc Robitaille Sidney Crosby Peter Bondra Stephane Richer Pat Lafontaine Tony Amonte Bernie Nicholls Howie Morenz Terry O'Reilly Doug Harvey Rod Langway Dit Clapper Kevin Hatcher Mike Ramsey Lyle Odelein Ken Dryden / Pelle Lindbergh (they'd split playing time pretty much 50/50 unless one was playing noticably better) EDIT: I never named a captain; Terry O will wear the C, and Neely & Harvey will wear the A's. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 I knew you were taking Grapes. He was my original pick for coach until I saw all the Europeans and French guys on my roster. About half-way through the draft I decided that I wanted Grapes as my coach (and I'm thinking "too many men" era Grapes, not the current loud mouth-era version) and made a conscious decision to draft as exclusively North American as possible. Only a couple of French Canadians and one Euro ... Cherry should be Ok with the team.

Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 I have one final pick. I need a centerman. This is my favorite player of all time. Don't ask me why, I don't know why. I passed on Vincent Lecalvalier for this guy. Right now, I'm passing on Joe Malone for this guy. He's the perfect guy to center my fourth line. Mike York, C He's scrappy, he skates hard, always hustles, has a little bit of a scoring touch (moreso towards the beginning of his career than now) and is versatile enough to play all three forward positions. Mike York, dude.
JJ Johnson 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 All that's left for me to pick is a backup goalie, and this goalie is one I think was painfully overlooked. Jean-Sebastien Giguere, G 2007 Stanley Cup Winner 2003 Conn Smythe Winner (On the losing team, no less) In 2003 WCF, held Minnesota to one goal in four games, for a preposterous .25 GAA. the max 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Final pick, one of the favorite Boston Bruins of the 1980's. Fight, hit, put in a few goals (career high 84 points the same season as his career high in PIM with 177). Played a physical, two-way style that will go well on my fourth line with MacLeish. Finished with only 494 points, but was a consistant player through his 10 seasons. With the final pick in the TSM NHL All-Time Draft, the Excitable Boys are very proud to select: Keith Crowder. R.
