MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Recommended Posts

So since I don't watch a lot of Pride I don't know a lot about some of their fighters.

Now the questions I'm about to ask might be considered sacrilige by some here but I'm still relatively new to MMA so I'm giving myself a pass. lol.

Ok so tell me about these fighters:

Fedor(yeah i know everyone here thinks he's jesus. tell me why though)

Mirko Cro Cop

Wanderlei Silva(yeah i've seen his early UFC stuff but i know he got really good after that. right?)

And I'll have more later.

Fedor - Seemlessly blends all aspects of MMA into one package. Outside of a close fight with Arona and a couple of scares from Fujita and Randleman, he has continually come into fights with superb gameplans, turning his opponents strengths against them and thouroughly frustrating them. Oftentimes, he uses his superb ground and pound to win, as evidenced by his two wins against Nogueira and Heath Herring. Probably the greatest MMA fighter ever.

Cro Cop - First fighter to fully make the transition from K-1 (pure standup) to MMA. Beat some pretty good fighters but couldn't get over the hump against Nogueira and Fedor. Not surprisingly, his standup is excellent (watch the left high kick), and his wrestling and ground game are surprisingly competent for someone so adapted to standup-only fighting. Some may argue that he is in MMA purgatory because of his losses to Nog and Fedor, but make no mistake he is still a definite threat to KO anyone he is in the ring with.

Silva - Catches a lot of shit from people but he is probably the best Vale Tudo style MMA fighter in the world. Uses his aggression and wildness standing up to overwhelm his opponents and has a good enough ground game to have never been submitted. However, he has shown a weakness against opponents who have good takedowns and ground control, as evidenced by his losses to Arona and Ortiz. The area where he catches hell from fans is usually the proclivity for Pride to match him up with Japanese opponents in the hope that they will catch lightning in a bottle and defeat him. Does have one KO loss to Vitor Belfort, but it was seven years ago and well before he established himself in the sport. Has shown to have a great chin since. Has fought and beaten a lot of great fighters though, including a previously unbeaten Dan Henderson, a thought-to-be invincible Sakuraba, "Rampage Jackson," Ricardo Arona, and Guy Mezger.

I'll give the fighters ratings in each department:

Fedor

Ground and Pound and/or wrestling: 10

Standup: 8

Submissions/BJJ: 8

Cro Cop

Ground and Pound and/or wrestling: 7, possibly an 8 based on his excellent takedown defense. Most of the time he allows his opponents to standup, but will also use soccer kicks if the opportunity arises.

Standup: 10

Submissions/BJJ: 4

Silva

Ground and Pound and/or wrestling: 8

Standup: 8

Submissions/BJJ: 6

I still don't see the hype in Vera. He's beat a couple JTTS and that's it. Somebody convince me that he's something special.

Some of the best Muay Thai @ HW, solid ground skills and supposedly good wrestling (as of yet untested)and while his competition may have topped out with Silva, but he's beaten everyone about as convincingly as could be hoped for. You can't ask for much more in a HW prospect nowadays. I could easily seem him beating many guys hanging around the Top 15 (Alistair, Monson, Buentello, etc).

I wouldn't say Silva's chin is "great." He usually gets dropped by most solid shots that land, though he recovers quickly. I'd say his resiliency is great, as opposed to his chin.

Most fighters send autographed pics of themselves delivering a punch, armbarring someone, or perhaps even raising their arms in victory.

Fedor sends ones of himself standing in his driveway, walking with his kids, or of himself autographing pics. AUTOGRAPHED PICS OF FEDOR AUTOGRAPHING PICS!

That's how badass he is.

I always liked Yvel, even before I became a huge MMA fan. Just off watching his highlight reel, you can't help but cheer him on because of his entertaining style. I just love how he throws his knees.

But now that I have became a MMA fan, and learnt more about him, and him being a headcase, makes me understand why people dislike him.

But still I love to watch him fight, because most of the time it's entertaining either way(IF he get's KO'd or KO's someone).

Well Dana used to be a boxer but I doubt he's up on his training. But boxing isn't Tito's strong suit but he is much bigger and stronger than White.

Who knows? I think it's absurd if it happens though.

I had another question.

Everyone here goes on about Chuck and Randy and compares them to the best in the world and what not.

But I've never really heard anyone hear speak definitively on Tito's skills and how good he is in realtion to other UFC fighters and the rest of the world.

Also just rewatched it again and was wondering what most's thoughts on the Tito/Randy fight were?

Tito's still Top 10 caliber, but isn't held nearly in as high a regard as he was a few years ago. Despite how badly Randy manahndled him, he's still one of the best wrestlers at 205, and also has good G&P & decent standup when he chooses to use them. Tito's biggest knocks are that he doesn't handle being hit well (he's a bit chinny and tends to panic when hit well), is often very passive and has become somewhat injury prone. There's also been longtime rumours that Tito shows alot more skills (especially BJJ wise) in the gym than he does in the cage for whatever reason.

Because he has a big ego and a lot of pride and claimed he could beat Chuck at his game.

The thing is if Tito can't take Chuck down then he can't win.

And what about Chuck on the ground? It doesn't really happen so what is it like? It hasn't happened lately has it? He's a purple belt is he not? And a D-1 wrestler. You were talking about Tito not showing skills but what about Chuck?

Oh and the Randy/Tito fight. Why was Randy able to manhandle him so easily? Is he just that much better than Tito?

Yeah I asked the question about Tito because I've never heard the hardcore MMAers in this forum(like Lei) say much about him.

Tito's always been one of my favorite fighters (though often giving me things to feel embarassed about), but he really hasn't done a whole lot since beating Matyushenko, and thus there hasn't been much to say about him. The Belfort & Forrest matches were decent in that Tito showed he could handle some adversity, but neither performance was overly impressive either. After he drubs ken again, I think he should fight Jason Lambert, a decent Top 15 type of guy who would be a confidence booster.

- Chuck's ground game (aside from his uncanny ability to regain his feet), is likely still drizzling shit. BJJ belts aren't always indictive of a person's skills on the ground.

- Randy manahndled Tito because in a battle between 2 wrestlers, the better one will win the vast majority of the time, unless the other is more dynamic in the other aspects of the game (which Tito isn't).

So this is a better question(or maybe not).....who's better? Chuck or his teammate Rampage? Who was better in their prime(i hear Rampage has gone downhill).

Rampage in his prime had the perfect style to beat Chuck. I still think he can beat Chuck.

We probably won't ever find out who would win a rematch., but as it is, Chuck has had a MUCH better post-fight career than Rampage, and is arguably the top dog right now with SHogun Rua. Right now he's the better fighter and probably will be till he retires.

I think Tito would beat Rampage myself, but we won't ever find that out either. I think an awesome match would have been Rampage vs. Randy, that's one that I'd look forward to more than any other.

Wandy would KO Chuck, he's still the top dog IMO.

I can see Rampage beating Tito, because he has better stand up. But it would never happen so no point in debating it or even bringing it up. Rampage Vs. Randy was always the fight I wanted to see, to bad it never happend.
