Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 GSP confirmed at the TKO show on Saturday that he'll be facing Hughes for the title @ 65 in Sacremento. Not suprising, because I'm hoping Dana White isn't expecting a PPV with Tim Sylvia headlining to sell.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Well, I should've elaborated that I was there live to see it happen. And I met GSP. And Hominick (I sent him your luv, Lei). Next TKO show is in February and hopefully they can get Hioki for it.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 So how'd you like all them fights not featuring Menjivar, Hioki, Yves, etc?
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 It was my first ever MMA event so of course I'm biased/unknowledgable but I thoroughly enjoyed the event. Meeting GSP set it off on a fairly high note. Out of 11 fights only two went to decison (Hominicks fight and Todd Gouwenberg vs Martin Desillets which was a sloppy but grimy throwdown) and we got a good mix of subs, ko's and tkos. Watching Stout armbar somebody was surreal as fuck. Like I said, Paltry better negotiate his ass off to get Hioki back in Montreal for February. If that's the case then you best make it up to Canada (a lot to ask, I know) for the show.

Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 It'd almost be worth it for Franklin to lose to Silva, only for Anderson to get flying reverse triangled by some journeyman like Sasaki.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 It'd almost be worth it for Franklin to lose to Silva, only for Anderson to get flying reverse triangled by some journeyman like Sasaki. Just like Leben was going to beat Silva easy right?
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 I don't ever remember using the word "easily," and besides, I picked Takase to sub Silva. I'm beyond reproach.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 Ace is one of my favourite fighters and the champ so I'm not going to bet against him but I'll totally acknowledge the possibility of Silva KO'ing him. Having said that, Franklin, Ground and Pound R3.

AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Rich's standup is being underrated by a lot of people, IMO. He has more power than Silva, and is pretty technical himself. Anderson probably has better kicks and knees, but Franklin might have the better boxing.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Anderson has the better boxing, as well, though he sometimes punches with all the destructive power of a wet paper-towel.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Anderson has the better boxing, as well, though he sometimes punches with all the destructive power of a wet paper-towel. Leben's "Iron Chin"(remember that Tong?) would disagree. Franklin's only chance to me is to take him down, Anderson gots underrated takedown defense I think. I like his sprawl. Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 He sat down on his punches against Leben, but he's also shown a reluctance to commit to them in the past and I doubt he's above pitty-patting again if he's tentative.

AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I always thought his takedown defense was pretty "meh." His guard is pretty guard, but the fact is he doesn't really do anything with it. Otsuka laid in Silva's guard for 20 minutes in their fight and didn't get submitted.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Silva's got decent sweeps and hip movement, but generally has to pick between those or going for the body triangle and waiting for stand-up, neither of which will work to well on Franklin, IMO.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Sherdog's Koubousen Companion for 8/6/06 "Defeat isn't in my dictionary," declared Manhoef. "I'm going to win this tournament, and take the belt, then I'm going to fight like crazy. I'm going to beat the K-1 heavyweights, and take the Grand Prix belt." Despite this, "learning to wrestle" is apparently too outrageous a goal for Melvin.

Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Huge fight. I'm rooting for and taking Aoki, as Gilbert's not going to ADD his way out of Aoki's sub attempts. Also, Gomi/Aurelio 2, Obiya/Buscape, Bustamante/Dong Sik... and Mike Barton vs Minowa. Fuckin' DSE.
