Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2007 So, Dana has said that NJ is hosting a UFC event in October or November. I won't say that Serra vs Hughes would take place there, but Serra vs Hughes will take place there.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2007 Dana confirmed on a conference call yesterday that Shogun is signed to a UFC contract. He also said there's a chance we'll see him show up post main-event on Saturday to challenge the winner. If Shogun shows up, we riot.
Mik 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2007 Apparently Diego almost RETIRED before the UFC 69 weigh-ins because they thought he had Hep C. It turned out it was a horrible staph infection. That sounds a little... extreme. Is Dana making excuses for that fight?

Mik 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 I love how Joe was talking about how much he loved boxing right before that guy said that he wasn't a boxing fan. Ha. You know you're losing the argument when you say the words human cockfighting.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 Joe's such a good talker when it comes to stuff like this. I think ESPN realizes that there's more money to be made with the UFC in the next few years then there is boxing
Guest Report post Posted May 26, 2007 They were both idiots. Boxing is not dying. Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor were not stars when UFC first came onto the scene, and there have been other stars made since it has came onto the scene. MMA is not just about white dudes fighting each other. MMA is not human cockfighting. The whole interview made me sick, to be fucking honest. They both stereotyped the shit out of both fanbases and made themselves look like idiots. Nothing's worse than two older men arguing and saying "my sport is better urz sux and is dead, urz is like dog fiting lolz" How do you grow a fanbase when two dudes that are representatives of their sports come off like total douchebag elitist types when they get an interview on mainstream sports television. And that goes for both sports. ESPN had to have chosen DiBella specifically because he was the typical "scum sucking piece of shit small time promoter that got a good meal ticket and rode to the top" kind of guy. I fucking hate that guy. If I already wasn't a fan of both MMA and boxing it would have really turned me off of each product. To me, it was like "holy fuck these two are acting like idiots"
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 Can we stop with all the boxing vs. MMA nonsense? It's getting dumb. Sorry, it IS dumb.
Guest Report post Posted May 26, 2007 Yeah, it is. I'm sick of it, as that's what ESPN covered mostly rather than Rampage/Liddell stuff. It's all fighting, and that's all that matters.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 I don't think Joe Rogan came off so bad, other than the Boxing will get swallowed comment. He seemed to legitimately be a fan of both. And if you've followed this guy at all, he's not to be full of shit. EDIT: My favourite quote from that page. Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. Rogan rules!! Mik 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 How do we all feel about Sherk vs. Franca? I'm not too thrilled with Franca as the top contender for the title but Sherk won't have fought in 9 months by the time this match rolls around. I'm still going with Sherk for the win. It's nuts that Sherk is the longest reigning champ in the UFC (tied w/ Anderson Silva)
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 I think it's gonna be a boring fight and a letdown personally. What's more important is that Rudo's latest man-crush is fighting on that card:

Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 I'm not too thrilled with Franca as the top contender for the title He earned it. Relative to the other guys in the division perhaps, but wins over Jordan (a late replacement journeyman), Varner (whom he was actually losing to) and Fisher aren't exactly the type to stand-out in a division like LW. Spencer Fisher was labeled as a top contender in the divison, and Franca dominated him. And Varner is a really good fighter with the potential, and I thought the fight was 1-1 going into the 3rd round.

Fisher still has not fully rebounded from the loss to Sam Stout, and at this point is teetering on verge of "Coulda'-Shoulda'-Woulda'"-dom. To me, it's still a sign of the resurrected division's growth period that a guy with losses to most of the top fighters he's faced is its top contender (without having won a TUF title shot, that is).
