Lord of The Curry Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 EliteXC has stripped KJ Noons of his Lightweight Championship for refusing to defend against Nick Diaz. Clearly The Hate's comments at Ultimate Fight Night swayed their decision.
Mik Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 The best part of GSP on Inside MMA this week is at the end they do this split decision segment where the panel gives quick answers.... The slam dunk question was "Who is your favorite American Gladiator?" and the easy answer is, of course, Gina who is sitting right there. It pans over to Georges and he's just intently staring at the graphic. He picks Crush because she's "the best looking" and afterward he turns to Gina and says "wait, that's you?"... he had no idea Gina was Crush. It was a pretty funny little segment. It was a good episode all around. My only gripe is they should have asked Georges more in-depth questions about BJ and left out the Anderson Silva talk for a later time. Hopefully when Kenny said they'll ask BJ the same questions when they have him on means that they'll have him on.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Clearly that chubby radio show dude (who was a cool guy) was in between GSP and Carano to prevent Gina from dropping to her knees and feeling da riddum. GSP's reaction to the elbow dislocation was hilarious and his laugh when Kenny was mocking Gina being disgusted was so nerdy. Mik- Did you check the M1 Challenge show beforehand? Two GULLY knockouts on that show.
Mik Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 No - missed it. Now that you mention that though I'll have to record the replay.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Do so. Most of the fights aren't great but it's got mad Fedor sightings and as I said, gully shit.
Youth N Asia Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 EliteXC has stripped KJ Noons of his Lightweight Championship for refusing to defend against Nick Diaz. Clearly The Hate's comments at Ultimate Fight Night swayed their decision. I expect Diaz to get a very beatable opponent so as they can get the title on him fast since it's all they want
Lord of The Curry Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Over in the UK there's reports coming out of The Sun that assuming he beats Leben we'll see Bisping as the head coach for Team UK on the next season of TUF, the same article stating that Dan Henderson will be the coach of Team USA. Interesting choices, Andy Silva victim of the past vs Andy Silva victim of the future.
Youth N Asia Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I figured Bisping would coach that show one way or another. What other standout UK fighters do they have. I just pray that they don't hold up the MW title for a year while waiting for this show to end. If I were a fight I would love to train with Henderson.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Bisping is an obvious choice but I don't know how well he'll do as a coach. He's only been a MW for 2 fights and never looked A+ as a LHW.
Youth N Asia Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Yeah, Bisping barely seems removed from the show himself. Don't like the idea of him coaching really.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 If Bisping is a coach I DEMAND we get the return of Ross Pointon as his assistant.
Mik Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 lol what can Ross Pointon teach you? How to absolutely luck your way into the semis? Bisping shouldn't be coach but who else are they going to use? Hendo is a good choice, though. His workout routine is insane. He trains weights for muscle fatigue so he ends up doing like 50+ reps. I almost wanted to cry just watching it.

Looking like it will be Eddie Alvarez.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 ESPN/MMA Live are saying UFC 87 (Lesnar vs. Herring/GSP vs. Fitch) did 650,000 buys.
Youth N Asia Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Ross is entertaining as all hell. That would be enough for me
Lord of The Curry Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Man, Riggs vs Misaki has to be one of the worst ref stoppages I've seen in a long, long time. The fight was absolute shit but Riggs got boned badly on that one.
Mik Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Not sure how recent this pic is so the best I can say is that Kaz Misaki is/was on roids. That chest acne is totally roid related.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I didn't see any of his WVR fights but he looks the same like in PRIDE. Best part of the night was far and away Ishida's DOPE armbar. This is going to make some year-end lists.
Lei Tong Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Somewhat reminiscant of the one Hazelett got Goulet with last year, but quicker. Too bad Dustin had to had to top himself with the whizzer/ankle-pick/armbar combo against Burkman or else that'd be the leading candidate for Sub of the Year. Ishida's always shown an inclination of wanting to be more than just another wrestler (IE- escaping a tight armbar and then immediately trying for a kneebar), but Class-A SHOOTO fighters (and many of the BJJ'ers he's faced since) tend to be hard to submit.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Funny that Mik mentioned that Misaki could be on the juice because if there's one guy last night that I saw and thought "Damn, he's getting some help" it'd be Trevor Prangley. That guy was ripped beyond belief.
BruteSquad_BRODY Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Anderson Silva declared he was retiring in less than a year, as of today
Lt. Al Giardello Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Well he's turning 34 next year... Might as well go out on top. Although there are fights at 205 I'd like to see him take.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 It's MMA, never say never. Though this thoroughly blows. Hopefully UFC can get Lindland in for his murdering as he (and Filho whom Silva won't fight) are really the only 2 top-tier MW's he hasn't blown through yet.
Mik Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 He won't do it. Once Dana hears about this he will probably be placing a phone call to one Mr. Ed Soares, if he hasn't already. Yeah, Anderson is proving to not be able to draw shit on PPV but Dana still wants him around. They can find fights for him, as well. Mega-fights, if the MW division is totally cleared out. You also know that if it does end up holding true they are going to give Bisping his shot. Dana wants a belt on him bad, I think. Actually, scratch that. He'll wait for him to retire and then give Bisping the shot at the vacant title... that way he would actually have a chance at being champion.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Silva isn't a draw? That's surprising considering he's one of the most entertaining and dominating fighters around.
Mik Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Out of all of the newest big "stars" he consistently sells the least PPVs. Off the top of my head reasons: 1) Doesn't speak english. Doesn't appeal to a lot of meathead and/or redneck MMA fans 2) Matches are almost foregone conclusions
Lord of The Curry Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Somebody was watching the financial breakdown on Inside MMA last week methinks. In terms of the "new breed" of UFC stars it's GSP, Rampage, Forrest and Lesnar that are the top draws. Silva, unfortunately hasn't proven out like they'd hoped and it's pretty much for the reasons Mik mentioned.
Mik Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Josh Thompson apparently called out Joachim Hansen after he steamrolled his no-name opponent at the Mansion. Even though he schooled Melendez...I'd still favor Hellboy. Would Joachim come to CA to fight or would Josh have to go overseas?
Lt. Al Giardello Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Josh Thompson apparently called out Joachim Hansen after he steamrolled his no-name opponent at the Mansion. Even though he schooled Melendez...I'd still favor Hellboy. Would Joachim come to CA to fight or would Josh have to go overseas? Hellboy is very hot and cold, I'd like Thomson's chances.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Also he didn't really call him out, he was pretty respectful and said that's a fighter he'd want to face. With Diaz vs Alvarez being rumored for the vacant EliteXC that pretty much puts the kibosh on Eddie/Hansen II so Thomson may very well get his wish. Pretty even fight but I'd give Hansen the advantage on the ground and Thomson a slight advantage (if that) standing.
