[Dark Age]

I know that a lot of the regulars here love him just as much as me, so it seems only right that we have a thread for the coolest, most inspiring, positive guy on the planet, who also happens to be the most underrated (and interesting) musician around today! He apparently has as many as three new albums out this year, though they were all meant to be out in 06/07 originally.

I don't know much about him besides the fact that he's one cool dude. I do enjoy his music, especially when I'm around a bunch of rowdy friends gettin my booze on.

I had his first album and loved it, just dumb fun. Saw him live in 2003 and had a great time. Haven't really paid much attention to him since then

I love all his albums, although Close Calls is a lot more hit & miss than his first two. I saw him in '03 and it was awesome. He was in the midst of opening for Hoobastank playing the mid-level venues of the northeast and he still came down to Allentown to play a 40-minute set in a shitty club opening for "Ill Nino", of whom I know nothing except that they have a song on the Freddy vs Jason soundtrack. Also, I e-mailed him once and he replied. What a good dude.

My college brought him in to do a show about 2 years ago. I wasn't really a fan, but I went anyway to score with this chick and he was a lot of fun. Moshing and two-stepping (I am from Long Island) were banned, but he kept telling everyone to do it. Before his last song, he said "Fuck it, everyone go crazy." A riot nearly broke out and then he invited everyone at the show out to pizza afterwards. Good times and I'm now a fan of his for life.

Still love him, though initially my support for him was in defiant opposition to the nu-metal lot who shat on him for being repetitive and seemed proud of themselves for spotting a 'fake', whilst creaming over Lost Prophets, Incubus et al. He's great. And a gosh-damn handsome man.

He is indeed a very handsome man, though I do prefer his IGW years look. He's still great now though.

 

Czech (I think; it's been a long time since I've been here!) you might like The Moving Room, but I'm not sure what else.

 

Sensei (?) what don't you like about CCWBW? Have you heard the title track to Young Lord which he released earlier this year?

Maybe "hit and miss" wasn't the right description. I like most of the songs on it, I just don't like them as much as my favorite songs on the first two albums. I like "I Came For You," "The Moving Room," "You Will Remember Tonight," "Into the Clear", "One Brother" and "Pushing Drugs" a lot. "Mark My Grace" and "Don't Call Me Andy" are OK. But there's nothing on it that's as good as "Ready to Die" or "Got To Do It" or "I Get Wet" or "Totally Stupid" or "The End of Our Lives," in my opinion.

That's pretty much true. In an ideal world, he'll get more experimental for a while then be ready for another 'classic sound' AWK album down the line.

That's fair enough. I take CCWBW to be a concept album of sorts about Andrew's own "transformation" from the IGW/Wolf era guy to how he is now (or was in 2006 at least). It's still awesome, but I prefer the other two, yeah. "The Moving Room" is right up there with "Totally Stupid", "I Love Music" and the likes though. I'd love a 'classic sound' AWK album but I think we might be waiting a while for it, with the rate he's going at releasing the current stuff. There's still Young Lord, The Carrier and Eberwhite, which were all meant to be released by the end of last year. Plus a solo piano album.

Mostly random. I was listening to Transient. . . at the time and it struck me as not being particularly fun music like Andrew WK is. I wasn't making fun of you, Kreeser, just myself. Maybe citing Mike Oldfield instead would've better conveyed my tendency to enjoy dismal and ponderous music.

He wasn't drunk, he was pretty much taking the piss out of them, in his own positive kinda way. They were absolutely brutal with him, though. It's funny, but the bit where he gets dragged off stage is so harsh. Still, a victory for Andrew, I think!

So Andrew released a new album last week! Japan only again, it's him covering a bunch of J-Pop songs. And it is awesome. Just ridiculously epic stuff, kinda similar to The Wolf in a lot of ways. I wasn't sure we would ever hear the dude like this again.
