After Beasley/Mayo/Rose I don't see anyone that can help the Knicks immediately. If they can get to the # 3 spot they get one of those guys for sure. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 I dunno. What's the goal of the Knicks at this point? The most common thing I hear is "clear space for summer 2010 when LeBron can opt out." I guess this trade "helps" that goal by getting 6 million ready to be cleared when Cardinal's deal expires. The problem is that most of the mediocre/overpaid players they'd like to let go (Richardson, Curry, and James adding up to $27 million) have player options for that season. Considering how horrible this team is, I'm not sure "trade your best young player" is a good move unless it gets you a guy who you think will 1) be a good enough second banana to make LeBron come to you, or 2) be good enough to carry a team. Can you really say that about anyone not named Beasley or Rose? And if you want a good veteran, what team out there wants #5 and #6 this draft year? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Gert T 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 I think Jermaine O'Neal may be the first to go. My gut tells me Indy wants a PG bad, but all 4 of the top PG's could be gone by 11. Fökai 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 The other rumor of note right now is Miami sending Blount and the #2 to Seattle for Wilcox and the #4, where we will then see the Sonics draft Beasley and the Heat draft either Mayo, Bayless, Westbrook or Brook Lopez. Ripper 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 No its not. Wilcox is a poor mans Udonis Haslim. He is a better rebounder, defender, and can hit that mid range jumper with consistancy thus being a better scoring threat. Wilcox will occasionally rebound for you and can occasionally dunk a putback or something. So basically the heat would be trading to pick up a guy they could pick up anyway. I mean, yeah, you want to get rid of mark Blount because he is Mark Blount, but there has to be something better to be had than that for the number 2 pick in in the draft. His contract, at the least, clears enough space next summer to re-sign Marion and make a run at a decent point or center, whichever they don't draft on Thursday. Gert T 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 I think, and three years from now I may be totally wrong, is that O.J. Mayo is the number 2 prospect on the list. I was not impressed with him until about February. He really hit his stride in the middle of Pac-10 season. The bottom line, I just do not think Beasley would be able to lead his team to an elite level without another good big on his team. I'm hoping the former, because Portland doesn't really need any new young players, and I'm not too fond of Beasley here, either. They have enough swingmen to put in at the 3 spot, Aldridge has the 4 locked down, Oden at the 5, and Roy at 2. What they would need is a killer PG, and they might already be getting that with their committee that they have on hand, though I am quite fond of getting rid of Jarrett Jack. They are just fucking with that guy. Mayo is a scorer. he is going to be a fantastic scorer. But he would be a Brandon Roy clone with better defense. I gotta ask you though, becuase even though I know you are a blazers fan and all, but your confidence in Sergio makes me wonder. Have you seen that guy play? Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 25, 2008 I totally agree with you on Serg, but the thing is is that I'm attributing his inconsistency to him getting used to the American game. I see him a lot like a smaller Sasha Vujacic in that sense, and a similar growth pattern in the two players. And it's not really confidence in Serg so much as a lack of confidence in Steve Blake. It's not that Blake is bad, it's that there clearly needs to be better play at that pointguard position there to set up plays for the Big Three. And much, MUCH better defense. Blake can make 3's all day and I'm grateful to him for that, but if Sergio can keep improving and be more consistent, or if Pritchard could find a better guard in the draft, that would be a big help. This is also why I'm a little wary of Rudy Fernandez, by the way. But Rudy looks likely to be a backup 2 in the NBA, so if it's just to spell Roy here and there, that shouldn't be too bad. He's talented and has a high "basketball IQ", he should be ok on the defensive end once he learns the ins and outs of the NBA game. If he drops out of the top 6 he's going to be a steal for whoever gets him. For the Hornets and Nuggets selling off their picks, yeah, there's going to be talent there, it's just a case of the respective management looking at their rosters and free agency and looking at the players that will likely be there and deciding they don't need to be adding a first round rookie at this point. I'm sure in a couple years there'll be a guy drafted around that time or later who turns into a stud and people will question why those teams moved their picks, but whatever. Denver I understand because they are way over the cap and have a ton of guys on guaranteed contracts, and they got a future pick out of it that they can cash in on when their salary situation is more manageable. The Hornets deal I don't get so much, outright selling a pick always seems silly to me, you own a fucking NBA team, do you really need an extra million or whatever that much? And the Hornets seem like a team that, while they don't really need to add a first rounder, could find a solid dude there who could make their rotation.
