Carl's Jr. & Hardee's

Recommended Posts

I've never seen one. But I think I'm gonna try to make it a point to go to In 'N Out today. Or something. I have a Carl's Junior directly across the street from my house.

Yeah, there isn't one near here. The closest is like 40 minutes away. And it absolutely is not overrated. At all.

The thing to know about In n Out is that a lot of the reason it's so popular is people ordering shit in weird ways that aren't on the menu, like 4x4 and Animal Style and what not. I think the whole thing is a little faggoty, I don't do it. They're just good burgers. Sub par fries. Good shakes. And that's the entire menu. You can be in line for like half an hour sometimes. Now that, my friends, is overrated. Well worth it if you go during off hours, though.

In N' Out's in Newbury Park (down near Ventura) are the hip hang out spot, cos they're open till 1 or something. Whoopde shit. Just throw a party, pussies.

And whenever my parents and I would go on a road trip, they would HAVE to stop at an In N Out at least once. It was rad the first time, kinda the second time, but three times in one fucking trip? Seriously, guys.

I had In N Out when I went down to San Fran last weekend, and it really wasn't as great as I remembered it at all. In fact, it was a little subpar and I didn't care for it much. I still think Fatburger is the better "only in California (and Las Vegas)" burger.

Here's the secret In n Out menu I found online:

In-N-Out Burger has a secret unpublished menu for insiders who are In-The-Know. Next time you're at In-N-Out (i.e. tomorrow . . . or maybe tonight), order a bag of these off-the-menu specials:

"3-by-3" = three meat patties and three slices of cheese.

"4-by-4" = four meat patties and four slices of cheese.

"2-by-4" = two meat patties and four slices of cheese.

*Note: You can get a burger with as many meat patties or cheese slices as you want. Just tell the In-N-Out Burger cashier how many meat patties and how much cheese you want and that is what you'll get! For instance, if you want 6 pieces of meat and 10 pieces of cheese tell them you want a "6-by-10."

"Double Meat" = like a Double Double without cheese.

"3 by Meat" = three meat patties and no cheese.

"Animal Style" = the meat is cooked and fried with mustard and then pickles are added, extra spread and grilled onions are added.

"Animal Style Fries" = fries with cheese, spread, grilled onions and pickles (if you ask for them).

"Protein Style" = for all you low-carbohydrate dieters, this is a burger with no bun (wrapped in lettuce).

"Flying Dutchman" = two meat patties, two slices of melted cheese and nothing else - not even a bun!

Fries "Well-Done" = extra crispy fries . . . even better than the regular!

Fries "Light" = opposite of fries well-done, more raw than most people like 'em

"Grilled Cheese" = no meat, just melted cheese, tomato, lettuce and spread on a bun.

"Veggie Burger" = burger without the patty or cheese. Sometimes we call this the "Wish Burger."

"Neapolitan" Shake = strawberry, vanilla and chocolate blended together.

The friendly employees of In-N-Out Burger will take your special order without question, if you use the right terminology. The printed receipt will have your special request typed on it just as we said it.

Try it!

See, that's just far too cutesy for me, it's like the Soup Nazi working at Jack Rabbit Slim's. But the Neopolitan shake, that actually does sound pretty good. And since I really don't care for their fries, I might try them in the variations seen here.

Knowing this might also contribute to why In n Out pays a little better than you'd think. $10 an hour I believe, not bad for fast food. But if you've seen them in a rush, they earn it without any secret knowledge. I wouldn't work there for 15 an hour.

To be fair, getting the fries well done makes them a bit better.

Also, Carl's just changed their fries to the natural cut fries to match their sister chain and to rival Jack in the Box. However, Jack's are better because the Carl's ones have that coating that crisps up and they are a tad saltier.

Yeah, but Carl's has both fried zucchini and the criss-cut fries. Jack's only has the bacon cheddar fries to counter with. I love me some fried zucchini.

Lots of In-N-Outs have since stopped making anything bigger than 4 x 4s, because people were ordering stuff like 100 x 100s, and then posting it online, and management didn't like how that made their food look.

Somewhat off topic but a wikipedia search on the Dagwood sandwich reveals that there's now a chain of Blondie themed restaurants called Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppes.

That's all.

We have Carl's Jr. here, not a big fan though. The Burgers are decent enough but the fries are terrible. I wouldn't put either over Burger King.

Luckily, I live within 10 minutes of both In N Out and Fatburger.

There's this one place in Ventura called "The Habit." Really good burgers, ok fries, but amazing chicken sandwiches. I always likened that place to Fatburger in the quality of burgers.

Yeah I've been there, they had those in Santa Clarita and scattered about around SoCal. I thought their burgers were overpriced and awful. Nowhere near Fatburger in terms of quality.

Plus, you can get an egg on your burger at Fatburger. Same at Tommie's, as well, although for some reason some locations are reluctant to do this. The one I always went to (in Van Nuys, near the Budweiser factory) never had a problem with it, though.

Good Morning Burger. That's the shit.

I tried modding the fries at In n Out. I think I actually prefer them "light", ie raw. Slightly undercooked potatoes are what's up. I used to do that with has browns I'd make at home.

within an hour of me, there's

McDonald's (lots of them)

BK (lots of them)

Wendy's (lots of them)

A&W (about an hour away)

Five Guys (came here this year, too bad it's slightly less than an hour away)

Checkers (one is 10 minutes away)

Roy Rogers (the last one in my area 10 minutes away in same town as the nearest Checkers)

Johnny Rocket's (mostly in malls, not all that close to me at all)

and Bobby Flay opened up Bobby's Burger Palace at the nearest mall

Have never had Sonic or In-n-Out or Carl's Jr./Hardee's or Whataburger

There's two burgers that I've actively sought out when they appear at Carl's Jr.: the Portobello Mushroom and Prime Rib Burgers. Something about the sauce on the Prime Rib Burgers that's simply awesome. I'm a fan of the new fries with potato skins intact. Delicious.

I'm usually over my head when I get hungry since I'm in a rest stop town between the Bay Area and Reno and have a mall, a waterpark and an Indian casino all within a 10 mile radius. Off the top of my head the burger joints I could get to within 15 minutes:

McDonald's

Burger King

Wendy's

In N Out

Carl's Jr.

Fatburger

Habit

Chick-Fil-A

Sonic

And I could keep going with the all the sit down restaurants around here. It really boggles my mind how all these restaurants manage to stay in business. I'm just glad my girlfriend can cook much healthy dishes to counteract it all.

What kind of question is this? Almost better than Burger King?

Fast food sandwich chains are ranked thus:

1. Chik Fil A

2. Carl's Jr./Hardees

3. Jack in the Box

4. Whataburger

5. In n Out

6. Wendys

After that, it doesn't really matter. I will say that while I eat fast food maybe once a month or so, there's none of it I actively dislike. It's food, eat it.

Where is there a Chik Fil A and a whataburger in the Bay Area? And no Arby's on the list?

Scroby, Nighthawk is from Tampa originally, and I'm pretty sure they're out there. Well, I know Chik-Fil-A is, at least.

I recently went to California and In N' Out Burger was all the rave, but I thought it kind of sucked. Burnt buns, greasy ass meat, a menu you can't even see, and some weak ass fries. I was unimpressed.

Holy God I want some fast food right now. Fuck. I've been cooking for myself, and no recipes are ever for one person, and... whatever. Anyways, I've never had Wendy's, so I'm gonna go try it out today. What's good?

The burgers are alright. I probably like them the best out of the big three (Heck, Wendy's is by far my favorite overall out of the big three). If you really want to man up, I'd recommend the 3/4 pound Triple Cheeseburger.
