bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 I thought Wanted might do 25-30 million, I was totally off. I know tracking it had in the low 30s. $50 million is just insane! Wall-E falling from Friday to Saturday is something I don't get at all. I wonder if this means it has iffy long-term prospects.
Craig Th 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 Is falling from Fri to Sat that big of a deal?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 Yes, most movies increase their box office gross from Friday to Saturday, since Saturday is the biggest movie going day. Generally, when a movie declines from Friday to Saturday, it's a sign of iffy long term prospects, though that is not always the case.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 Well and wouldn't a kiddie cartoon movie like Wall-E also be expected to do more business on the weekend than on a Friday? I know Pixar appeals more to adults than other cartoons, but I'd think the main audience is still kids. Wanted did shockingly well. I think it looks pretty good but it isn't something I'm rushing to see at the moment.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 It's a little different in the summer since the kids are out of school. I'm sure they've been clamoring for weeks to go see Wall-E, so the parents rushed them to the theater at the first opportunity just to get 'em to shut up. Wanted is the first big-budget R-rated action flick we've had in a little while, and the trailers were certainly appealling to the type of fans who just want cool stylish murder stuff and don't care about realism. It's also the only action flick out right now which isn't being marketed as comedy (Get Smart), horror (The Happening), or comics (take your pick). It's just people shooting each other, and there's always a market for that.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 All of humanity needs to see Wall E. That's pretty much it.
ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Wall-E was right where I thought it would be, but Wanted at 50 mil just blew me away.
AntiLeaf33 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Talking to a lot of people that want to see Wall-E, they want to wait a week or two to avoid the crazy lines since they will be taking kids, so I can see it having staying power.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 I liked Wanted so I'm happy it made money. Anything that helps to get more R-rated action movies made is a good thing.
