Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 I'm looking forward to the Cubs/Phillies series. It's never an easy series, but as a potential playoff match-up, it'll be a fun watch.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 The Pirates picked up minor league catcher Robinzon Diaz to complete the Jose Castillo trade. That's a surprisingly nice little move. Diaz had a bad year but he's still 24 and a career .303 hitter in the minor leagues. I'll make a bold prediction. IF the Pirates can find some way to upgrade their middle infield next season, they could finally beat .500.
treble 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 It's Jose Bautista, but you're not the first one to make that mistake. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Bau...(third_baseman) On Bautista's 2008 Topps card, (#158) the signature and stats match Bautista, however the photograph on the card is of former Pittsburgh infielder Jose Castillo. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 Fry's a right fielder. For kicks, the Scranton/WB Yankees have a pitcher named Phil Coke.
Guest WhackingCockDick Report post Posted August 25, 2008 White Sox and Orioles are making up a suspended game this evening before commencing the scheduled contest. They'll be the "home team" in Game 1 because the suspended game was played at Comiskey, so there's one for the trivia section. Best case scenario, the Twins can gain a game and a half in the standings today. If the O's take both halves of the sorta-doubleheader, we might have to let Marvin back in to gloat. Never mind, just win, Twins.
Guest Smues Report post Posted August 25, 2008 Fry's a right fielder. For kicks, the Scranton/WB Yankees have a pitcher named Phil Coke. When he conferences with the catcher at the mound do they refer to that time as the pause that refreshes?
Guest WhackingCockDick Report post Posted August 25, 2008 Scott: "Who would you root for?" Obama: "Oh, that's easy. White Sox. I'm not one of these fair weather fans. You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there. People aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball. Southside." EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 Scott: “Congress played a vital role through its hearings, and baseball union and players union into more frequent testing for performance enhancing drugs and stricter penalties. When you were watching the hearings, what did you think of them?” Obama: “I love baseball. Baseball is America's pastime. I'd like to see the baseball Commissioner handle this without Congress being involved. We've got a lot of stuff on our plate.” Sold.

devo 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 Back to back complete games for Mike Pelfrey, this time allowing only one run with no walks. First time it's happened in thirteen years for the Mets. I'm still waiting for him to hit the innings wall but it's damn fun to watch in the meantime. It's really too bad the Dodgers became staggeringly incompetent at some point on Friday. Edit: No runs on thirteen hits. Stunning.

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 Wait a second. The Cubs has the best record in the NL, is probably the best bet to make the World Series, and Czech is still dwelling on the f'n White Sox? Get a life, dude.
Guest WhackingCockDick Report post Posted August 26, 2008 Haha, Sox fans accusing us of "dwelling" I appreciate the Twins and want Mauer/Morneau/Cuddyer to succeed. Also, I can't really talk about the Cubs a lot because if I do, then I'm gloating about the best team in the league, and if I get pissed off when their heads go back up their asses, then I'm Chicken Littling about the best team in the league. Moreover, Leena still reads the board and yells at me for talking about the Cubs. Maybe it's best I just stop posting entirely.

Moreover, Leena still reads the board and yells at me for talking about the Cubs. Maybe it's best I just stop posting entirely. First of all, it's ONE White Sox fan accusing ONE Cubs fan of dwelling, namely me and you respectively. Get that right. Second of all, whatever compliments you pay the Twins are constructed in a way that it's like you want them to succeed solely to spite the White Sox. Akin to something like a Cardinals fan rooting for New York Yankees, just so that the Red Sox isn't succeeding. Third of all, yeah it's probably best you don't post. If I, PORTER, think you are a complete mess, then it's time to explore other avenues, mainly shock therapy.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 Joe Posnanski on the White Sox/Pierzynski call. http://joeposnanski.com/JoeBlog/2008/08/25/he-long-gone/ Video of the play, complete with unbiased White Sox commentary. http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200808243362907 Looking now at a video of the play, yikes that's a bad call. mike546 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2008 Not to over exagerate, but tonight's Yankee/Red Sox game is up there in most depressing Yankee/Sox games I've ever seen. A-Rod has grounded into 2 DPs and is getting booed even in the field, and they just cannot get a big hit. It's really depressing just to see how much the tides have turned when it comes to the Yanks and Sox, as the way these games used to turnout have just flipped. Tonight is probably the nail in the coffin on the season, even if they win the next two.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2008 Porter sure turned into a surly chap. This is an atrocious game between the Cubs and Pirates. Lots of errors, missed bunts, caught stealing, runners thrown out trying to take an extra base, and we're still without a clean inning from either team. On the bright side, the Cubs currently have the lead in the back-and-forth affair and Soto's got seven driven in.
