PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 For my first selection, I am going for the directorial angle: Joel & Ethan Coen I have been a huge fan of this filmmaking duo since high school, and I am glad that they have finally regained the focus that they lost a handful of years ago. A huge coup for my production company, as these guys usually deliver from both a critical and commercial standpoint.
godthedog Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 35 rounds? this is group masochism. you're all going to be fathers before this draft is over.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 35 rounds? this is group masochism. you're all going to be fathers before this draft is over. The pro wrestling draft so far has had like 44 rounds, and the NFL Draft had 25... Sure it's not going to go extremely fast paced, but it makes things more funnier. I hate how some of the drafts are so short.
Kahran Ramsus Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 But really it's up to everyone else, what do you guys want to do about this? I like the idea of them being both, because that is what they are. But at the end of the 35 rounds, just for purposes of categorizing them whoever drafts someone like Eastwood needs to specify whether they want to classify them as a director or an actor. It doesn't say in the first post, but I assume this is a serpentine draft (first pick in odd number rounds is the last in even number rounds), correct?
BlackFlagg Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I will also be grabbing a director for my first pick... Martin Scorsese
Brett Favre Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 On behalf of Next USC #55: Paul Thomas Anderson.
Exslade ZX Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Just to make sure I get him before he's gone, I'm picking... The baddest mothafucka, in the history of, well mothafuckin acting. Samuel L. Jackson edit- Also, is this serpentine rules? Some of my picks my change depending on that.
Obi Chris Kenobi Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Tom Hanks Good range of acting, over friendly face and gentle giant.
Mecha Mummy Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 ... yeah, I'm wondering about the serpentine rules. I've got my picks lined up if so, because that means I'd be going twice, right?
Brett Favre Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I'm guessing it's serpentine rules. Just go twice.
Kahran Ramsus Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I say go for the two picks. I don't think anybody here will argue it. It is the traditional method for these things.
Mecha Mummy Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 So basically if we get to the actual "pitch a movie" stage I have no clue what I'm going to do here, but I gotta. I just gotta. Akira Kurosawa and Toshiro Mifune My favorite director of all time and my favorite actor of all time. I'll figure something out.
RonL21 Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Fiddle Sticks!! I was hoping Sam Jackson would slip through unnoticed.
Bruiser Chong Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 How far off are we from a "Draft Draft" at TSM?
Lt. Al Giardello Posted August 30, 2008 Author Report Posted August 30, 2008 I'm guessing it's serpentine rules. Just go twice. Thats how most of the drafts went I don't get why it wouldnt be different for this one.
Nighthawk Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Just FYI, you have spelled "Kubrick" wrong in the first post.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted August 30, 2008 Author Report Posted August 30, 2008 I'll edited it tomorrow along with the other updates, very tired right now, going to sleep soon.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Everyone who didn't take Kurosawa and Mifune is a total gay.
PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Robert Duvall That was one of my first actor choices.
Nighthawk Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Everyone who didn't take Kurosawa and Mifune is a total gay. I was actually debating between Kubrick and Kurosawa for my first pick. Just had to be honest about which one entertains me more. Plus, Kurosawa and Mifune do go really well as a package deal. I'm glad they went that way, I wouldn't like to see them split up.
Exslade ZX Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Almost like a package deal for me, as some of my favorite movies involve my first 2 picks, including my favorite, Pulp fiction. And since we need directors, I'm going with Quentin Tarantino
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Well I'm glad this guy fell to me. He proved he could do some great things with my director, and he probably fields the best percentage of roles:acclaim, and is considered one of the finest method actors in this generation... my 2nd pick and first actor choice: Daniel Day-Lewis
Kahran Ramsus Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 I'm glad people are picking guys who will work well together as opposed to just calling out the biggest names available.
BlackFlagg Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 also gonna go with the pair angle and take Marty's current go to guy... Leonardo DiCaprio
PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Another talent from behind the camera (though he does just as well in front): Orson Welles While I have only seen a handful of his movies (granted they are major works such as Touch of Evil, Citizen Kane and the like) I simply adore his directorial style; most notably, his ability to play with depth and create organic illusions in a way that I never seen since.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 For director, I'll pick Oliver Stone.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 To stick with the actor/director combo picks: Morgan Freeman
godthedog Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 i'm actually surprised that welles went this early. i thought hitchcock would go first.
