WWE Unforgiven 2008

Recommended Posts

Yeah, the tag title match was pretty good on this show. I think that Undertaker/Big Show stuff lasted way too long though. They showed the CM Punk beat down, and then they have this long, never ending segment, where the Taker gets beat down for about 10 minutes. I mean, it kind of killed the suspense of "Is CM Punk going to be in the match or not"?

So you think the Rey thing is a swerve into making you believe Batista is going to heel, only to have Rey heel?

Something is going on there with the whole Rey change...love the mohawk :)

Wow, I can't believe that WWE came to their senses and put the title on the most entertaining guy in the company right now. However, CM Punk is BURIED after this though. I mean, the guy had the title for about 2 months, and then loses the title by being knocked out by the ultra lame kick of death, and then doesn't even wrestle the match. Wow. You know, CM Punk was really lucky to even have the title at all in WWE, so it doesn't shock me that they finally had enough of his title reign, but they shouldn't bury the guy that bad. Still, even if he was buried, they at least had a good alternative, Jericho. I said a few weeks back that instead of doing the obvious by putting the title on Orton, they should put it on Jericho, the best heel on the show, and maybe the promotion right now. Now the awesome Michaels/Jericho feud can be for the title, since it has been the only stuff worth watching on Raw the past few months.

How is being jumped by 4 people then getting field goal kicked in the head (which has been promoted as a career ending move.), and has to forfeit the title by not being able to compete in the actual match due to injury, burying someone?

Off Topic: The VMA's was awful. Kanye did all that bitching last year to end the show like that?

How the fuck did Spears win 3 awards?

Off-topic is not even the word for it...

Can you imagine anyone thinking Punk looks credible at this point? I mean, I thought while watching it, that they were going to pull a Cena on us, and have "overcome the odds", and win the match. But no, they instead think he isn't important enough to even be in a title match. They apparently think he's at the level of Sabu at D2D, when Bob Holly attacked him, and stole his spot.

It makes Orton look credible, but doesn't ruin Punk's credibility at all. We'll have to wait and see how Punk vs. Orton turns out, though I can't see Punk getting the better of Orton in his return.

One positive about these Scramble matches ---- They'll be easy to program into future WWE video games.

Which reminds me of the Sign of the Night: "PLAYER 1 IS REALLY TAKING IT TO HIM, KING".

I don't know what happened tonight but come the fuck on. Jericho totally deserved a title run.

No one is saying Jericho doesn't deserve a title run, but the way they did it was awful, which as you said, you don't even know how they did it

Punk isn't buried, he was protected......I would have thought anyone could have seen that was what they were doing, by giving him an "out" to not even so much as get a chance to defend his title in the match because of the beatdown.

If Punk actually went in the match, and got the shit kicked out of him the entire bout, THAT in itself would have buried him.

As for that last match, it was actually the weakest of the three scramble matches, I thought, but I liked the unpredictability of having Jericho win the title here, plus it's well deserved as it leads to Jericho/Michaels continuing as the true main event feud of the company (a program which both guys have shined on, and is better than any program WWE has done in years), and also sets up Orton/Punk feuding for the next big title shot after the Jericho/Michaels feud commences. Plus in whichever way its' done, Punk against either Michaels or Jericho is strong stuff, and it makes sense now why Jericho went over Punk in that non-title match on Raw a while ago.

I think it was intentional for Adamle to pick Jericho as Punk's replacement, as it made the move hypocritical on Adamle's part, especially if the story ends up being that Punk wanted to work the match, but Adamle wouldn't let him or something.

Solid ppv, the Jericho/Michaels match was awesome, and the undercard was a mish-most of mostly acceptable stuff, except the horrible Taker/Show program setup. Haven't we seen that feud far too many times already?!! But the show ended with a huge "holy shit" moment that definately makes me looking forward to the next upcoming shows. So really can't complain too much.

I'm pleased about a second Jericho title reign, but there were about a hundred less retarded ways to go about getting the title onto him.

Kind of sad how WWE only gives Jericho a world title run by controversial circumstances.

Well, really how many times has UT vs. Show been a serious feud? It's been done before but all of those times it never really had any heat since Show was never on the Taker's level. It might work better this time as long as they don't have Show become Vickie's new boyfriend.

I'm very torn on the main event. Once Punk was attacked I was in utter horror at the initial thought that Orton would be the replacement. Hard to stomach that if it had been the case, since that would be rewarding Orton for hurting Punk. I am glad to see Jericho get the belt, but it was truly bizarre that he of all people would be a replacement since he went through a 20+ min. beatdown from Michaels earlier in the show. I couldn't help but think "Okay wait up, Jericho is able to wrestle after a brutal match but Punk isn't after one lame kick to the head?" It might be a way of protecting Punk by not having him job, but in this case if he was losing he almost needed to come out with a head bandage and get beat.

Really good PPV though, nothing all that bad on it. The SD match continued Jeff Hardy's string of blunders and not wrestling a smart match (unlike his brother, who didn't take chances and kept everything in front of him and won). Why Jeff didn't just break up HHH's final pin instead of insanely covering Shelton I have no idea. There's taking crazy chances and then there's looking like a complete idiot.

FWIW, HHH is indeed still listed as being on his 12th title reign from April on WWE.com's title histories. It was pretty apparent from everyone stating HHH "retained the title" that JR just goofed. However the World Title section isn't updated so they could still change it. Matt is listed as defeating "N/A" for the title instead of Henry.

The problem with Show/Taker isn't one at the level of another, its just that those two hardly ever have good matches together. As we saw tonight, they still don't click. And it's a mundane redux, nothing creative or original here. Taker and Show deserve better than against each other again.....a proven failure in my book.

As far as the Hardy thing, I honestly think it was booked to make Hardy look that stupid, why would he then pin the other guy last minute like that? He was supposed to do so.

The other side of the coin was is that Jeff had an "advance pin" on Shelton, meaning he would get his interim title back as soon as the ref could count Shelton's shoulders down. Unfortunately Jeff didn't check the clock.

That's what I mean by saying that it was booked that way for Hardy to pin Benjamin as soon as HHH got his pinfall, since the story of the match was Hardy getting a pin on someone right after HHH would get one prior. Like I said, it was BOOKED to make Hardy look like an inexperienced dumbshit who couldn't tell he wouldn't get another pinfall in time even with the fans counting down. Someone was sure thinking ahead on it all in when they laid this match out, and I think we can safely assume who that guy was. Old habits die hard with HHH, apparently.

And let's be honest here. Jeff Hardy is not Matt Hardy. They weren't going to waste any potential Jeff Hardy championship win in a match like this, like his brother. The fact they had Jeff win the title as often as Triple H, and personally getting pinned only once in a multiple pinning situation, tells me they are still serious about Jeff anyways. So he'll be the inexperienced dumbshit that eventually lucks his way into a big time title win.

ECW title match was fun. I liked it and Matt showed strategy in that match.

Tag match was what it was. Passable. Definately liked where they are going with the new stable.

Michaels-Jericho was good. Jericho definately got handled in that match.

SD title match was ok. I agree with everyone on the lack on intelligence on Jeff's part. I just like the fact Kendrick was a 3 time WWE champion in that match.

Women's title match, meh.

Raw title match was a little interesting. I think either Batista or Rey have to turn heel. At least to me, as faces, one needs a change. Punk, that one surprised me, not the way I envisioned the end to his title run. I guess unless he wins the Rumble and face Jericho at Mania then so much for Punk as world champion.

I liked Jericho as champion. This means the Michaels-Jericho feud does not end. Jericho can talk more shit now since he's the world champion and the fact that Michaels did not put Jericho away for good. This program definately needed the world title in it and now rightfully belongs at the top of the Raw card.

Jericho winning doesn't make it a wonderful ending. It was obvious once he entered he was just going to do the chickenshit pin.

This is also what, the 100th time in the past two years, Batista has come OHSOCLOSE TO THE WORLD TITLE, THE LOOK OF DISBELIEF ON HIS FACE.

Thanks, WWE!

Yes. thanks for screwing over the paying customer!

How did they screw over the paying customer? They were promised possible title changes. They were promised a brutal fight (Jericho/HBK). What did they not deliver on? That their world champion failed to participate? Just because they didn't do the "wire to wire retaining Punk" angle that everyone here seemed to think they would do, doesn't mean the paying customers were screwed over.
