I have never seen it before in my life watching baseball. And what makes Jeter so damn important? This attitude will come back to bite them in the ass when they resign him and let him play shortstop into his 40s. There never has been a situation quite like Yankee Fucking Stadium closing, so you're right, no one has ever come out for that purpose, but that purpose has never been an issue. The fans at the Stadium obviously wanted it to, that applause was enourmous, so lay off him. Derek Jeter is one of the most important Yankees ever, let him have this. Let the Yankee fans have it. Tiger Stadium?

It's like in basketball when they call a timeout to let a player soak in the applause. They usually do that if a guy is retiring or it's the final game of the playoffs and your team isn't going to win the series/championship. I've never seen that happen because they're moving to another arena. If Jeter's retiring tomorrow morning then they can gave him a 20 minute standing ovation and that's understandable. Other than that, who gives a shit that Jeter has played his last home game a block or so away from where he'll play his next one?

Plus, who would get the curtain call at the last game at Tiger Stadium- Damion Easiley? Why not? Tiger Stadium had Cobb, Kaline, Crawford. Several World Series and All Star games. Plus it wasn't completely rebuilt in the 1970s, making all of its standing facilities legitimate.

Again, really no comparison. Plus, NYC isn't letting Yankee Stadium rot away like Detroit is. Also, a lot of what Smartly Pretty said. I do agree that it is annoying that people conveniently forget that Yankee Stadium was rebuilt in the 70s. Weird how Turner Field is probably one of the oldest NL stadiums.

RepoMan Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 I hate the Yankees, but I didn't find the hype for this to be all that bad considering all the history that happened there and that it's in the US media Mecca. I enjoyed that it played second fiddle to the Cowboys-Packers on network TV compared to a meaningless game on cable.
