the max 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 I was going to say- Matt Young sure posts a lot about Kings games that no one cares about. Looking forward to Canucks-Wings tomorrow. Hopefully we get the Canucks from last weekend, and not the team that came out flat against the Caps People bitch that I don't post in baseball threads, claiming that I "only show up for the playoffs." Then I get bitched at for actually participating. Go fuck yourself. There's participating and there's giving play by play. Look what happened to Marvin with the stupid Orioles in the baseball thread. the max 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 There seems to be some kind of mistake here. I mean, they say this is "LIVE" but I'm convinced that they're playing a tape of a Bruins v. Scabs from last year. It's the same shit again. The Bruins overcommit, the Scabs find the open man and wreak havoc. Couple that with Thomas being unable to control himself in the crease and giving up ridiculous rebounds and I'm convinced I've seen this all before.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 So how about them Bruins right now max? Same results as last year I see
the max 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 I will give someone on the Boston Bruins five hundred dollars ($500) of my own money if they cripple one of the Kostitsyn sisters. Crippled means unable to play ever, ever, ever. For fuck's sake, one of the ladies had Wideman in the fucking figure 4. Wideman gives her a shove and the whole period comes unraveled. I know it's a big night for Montreal, what with the centennial and, according to most of the fanbase, they're going to present the Stanley Cup to the Scabs during the second intermission, but maybe we could get this called evenly? Maybe? Christ on a fucking pony.

Sports folder: almost completely barron of intelligent posters (maybe you shouldn't post in this folder then) No one is saying you shouldn't participate in the hockey threads, and in fact, I hope you do. It's nice to have more posters talking hockey here. But no one wants to scroll through play by play of a game. That adds nothing to the discussion, and nobody cares. Guest Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Stop the bickering. Post something at the end of every period if you want, or add thoughts to go with PBP as you go along. The end.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Who on earth made up the schedule? The Sens have played one game since their European sojourn, and don't play again until Friday, when they get a lovely back-to-back against the (surprising) Coyotes and the Bruins. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 I just don't know what else I'm supposed to say during a game rather than commenting on goals, hits, or penalties.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Don't say anything. Comment on the game afterward. Or give your opinion on how the game is going as it's going on. But don't do PBP. It's annoying.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Analysis not recapping is the way to go, Matt. We all know what the score is, we all read Yahoo! sports. Giving PBP does not generate discussion, analysis does.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 The hell happened? I went downstairs after 2 to play some Tiger. I come up a half hour later, and it's in overtime? Habs win in a shootout, so I can sleep tonight, but jeez. we all read Yahoo! sports. Fuck! I forgot all about the hockey pool I signed up for.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 I'm going to a Caps game at the end of December. I don't know much about the team besides Ovechkin, so what do I need to know? Also, anyone been to a Caps game?
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 The Sabres are a good team. They're finally playing with a toughness that they haven't in years... and they're playing a defensive system that they haven't in some time. Thomas Vanek has 5 goals in 3 games (2 shorthanded). They've beaten both the Canadiens and the Rangers. They are a part of the conversation. All props to Lindy Ruff. This is the 3RD different style of team system that he's coached in his run. Rangers had the back to back in Prague, come home and then play three games in four nights, and then play three games in four nights again this week!!! Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 It was nice to see the Ducks play somewhat better last night and to see Huskins hit that opening goal after being healthy scratched against the Kings, but good lord the penalties and the somewhat poor puck handling is hurting the team and on average they seem to only play 30 mins of good hockey and then come apart. That said, you might want to scale back your posting to better match the pace and rhythm of the monthly threads. Postgame analysis is great. Asking questions about teams around the league is spectacular. Running commentary on a last-place team? Probably not adding a tremendous amount to the discourse. I know you're eager to demonstrate that you're a hockey guy now, but that overcompensation may rub a few people the wrong way. You might want to slow down a tad, read more and write less for now, and by the November thread you'll fit right in. I have some Savard thoughts a little later. I have to go eat some lunch first! I had them fighting for a playoff spot, probably finishing up on the outside looking in. I don't quite have them in the upper tier yet, but we'll see. What made them so good during their conference final runs over the last two seasons was their depth, and the team's essentially the same as it was then. And absolutely, props to Ruff. It's remarkable that he's coached a team for ten years given the volatile ground all coaches and execs in sports stand on.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Any reason given or press conferences yet as far as Savard goes? I'm pretty shocked to hear of it. I was listening to talk radio on my lunch when they said 'unconfirmed report', then they re-iterated that it was unconfirmed. It sounded like a prank or something. the max 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 I'm curious why they went with Quenneville, who seems to have an inability to work with goaltenders. He now has a guy signed to be the #1 and a guy making more than the #1, both of whom are going to want playing time...I don't understand.
Guest C*Z*E*C*H Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Denis Savard was hired in 2006, the last year of the Dollar Bill/Pulford regime. While he was a fair coach, he wasn't the best coach available. He was only hired because Bill and Pully had a strong belief in only hiring Blackhawks to run the team, which limits you to coaching luminaries like Keith Magnuson, Dirk Graham, and Trent Yawney. (I guess this was waived when they hired a Finnish playwright.) The problem with the Hawks, and really any team, being so loyal to their own when it comes to naming coaches is that coaches don't last. Denis Savard has been in the organization for fucking elevensome years now as an assistant coach or vice-president of looking out the window (this is Pulford's new post, basically. I think he's overseeing the liquor distribution arm of WirtzCo; make your own joke, there are at least ten), and now he has to be sent out on his ass because it turns out he can't coach a fucking power play or get through a period without shuffling his lines. This is why you don't do this. This is why Michael Jordan shouldn't run the Bulls, this is why Bart Starr shouldn't have coached the Packers, this is why Tony Gwynn shouldn't call a baseball game, or any of that. The proper place for your Blackhawk legends is to have them put the team uniform on and wave to crowds on "_____ Night," or cut ribbons at Jewel-Osco grand openings all the way out in Elburn or something. And this is exactly what Rocky and John McD have had Hull, Mikita, and Esposito doing. Writing was on the wall when they added Quenneville over the summer as a "scout," and it went on the wall for Tallon when they hired Scotty Bowman as a "consultant." Rocky's not fuckin' around. He's spending to win: win back fans, win back media coverage, win back profits, win the Cup, win everything. Quenneville is a guy, by all accounts. He seems to be kind of a Flip Saunders or a Bruce Bochy sort of fellow who hangs around and does some good, but never enough. He's certainly not like Mike Keenan, who comes to your house when your parents are out of town, throws the biggest party your school's ever seen, then breaks a lamp, pukes on a rug, and goes home. He's an upgrade over Savard, but he's not really my idea of a capital-G-capital-C Great Coach. Also, he got a DUI, kind of like another St. Louis sports mainstay. ALSO, lookit this guy: Mike Ditka: HOCKEY EDITION! They'll love him!

Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 Pretty sloppy effort from the Wings tonight. The second period was good but the rest was bleh. They are getting outworked quite often which is discouraging. Hopefully Saturday goes better.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 Yeah, I've got to agree with that. The Wings just didn't have it tonight, even though the score was close.
