RavishingRickRudo Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 It's the standard life cycle of a product, though. Basic economic stuff, where they are trying to maximize revenue when their popularity is the highest, and when it starts to dip then they do things like decreasing price, running less shows, etc. But there is only a certain window of opportunity to do these things and now is the time to milk the fanbase. Like Lei said, there is enough talent to spread out over the cards, which is great for the overall health of the UFC. More guys fighting, the better they get, the increased odds of finding the next potential champion/draw. In this regard, we don't lose. Where *we* do lose is with ticket prices for shows. I was giving serious thought to going to see Penn/GSP live before I saw what tickets were going for. That's bullshit.
AmericanDragon Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Buddy Rowe just went out on a stretcher.
AmericanDragon Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Uh, spoiler? It's not likely they'll air the fight considering the way he actually went out.
Lord of The Curry Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 Well now that you've outed it, what happened?
AmericanDragon Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 "NOBODY COMES INTO MY ZONE OR MY HOME!"
Lord of The Curry Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 How'd it happen? Just planted the leg wrong?
Lei Tong Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Wiman's striking still sucks, though he may luck out with Miller coming in on short notice.
Lei Tong Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Nevermind. The Miller boys are too good. "Miller is on another level tonight," says Rogan, as though Wiman would stand a chance when Miller's actually prepped. He's as in love with Wiman as EHME.
AmericanDragon Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Just give me the god damn main event already.
AmericanDragon Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I hope Tommy Hearns knocks out Cantwell.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Hey now, the event isn't that bad. Not crazy fights, but decent and while I don't care about the cut scenes featuring soldiers (though it's obviously a nice gesture on their part to dedicate this to the fallen soldiers fund) it's not that big a deal. Rogan did mention how much worse off Wiman would be if Miller had a full camp for this fight. As for this Razan guy, I don't know anything about him, but considering Cantwell is no good, I'll bet on the super ripped athletic black guy.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Somewhere, Anthony Johnson is hanging his head down in shame. That was a fucking disgusting break though.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 OOH OOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AmericanDragon Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Damnit I just want to see the main event already. Goulet's chin probably won't make it to a decision but I hate Swick. Goulet better finish this fast.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Fucking Goulet, all the best training in the world is useless when you can't take a punch. As if this was a secret, but I saw him get dropped by a knee that didn't look too bad in training and I knew he was toast in this one.
Lei Tong Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Most predictable finish ever. Nice job on Rogan & Goldberg acting like KO'ing Goulet is the bomb ass pussy. EDIT: Also, YPOV was right on in mentioning that Goulet is the quintessential example of someone who'd be a completely different fighter with a decent chin.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Woooooooooooow. I am shocked.
Hawkius Maximus Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 ...I don't think it was the fact that he couldn't take a punch. I think it was the fact that he couldn't take a thousand punches in rapid succession.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 EDIT: Also, YPOV was right on in mentioning that Goulet is the quintessential example of someone who'd be a completely different fighter with a decent chin. It's so true, he actually is very skilled, athletic, strong and big for the weight class. He's just got a glass jaw.
AmericanDragon Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Fuck it, my last minute prediction is Yoshida by KO.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Holy shit Ben Saunders looked good in that fight. Looked in wayyy better shape than before, and it showed with how vicious and explosive he was with that clinch. Finally figured out how to use his reach too. I don't know how good this Wolff guy is, but it seems like Saunders is finally making good on some of his potential. Can't question a guy with the Killa B nickname either.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Okay I just figured it out; he's as close to a real life version of Sagat as you're gonna get.
AmericanDragon Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 The play by play that I read definitely didn't prepare me for that.
