WWE SmackDown - October 31, 2008

Recommended Posts

Dark Match:

* Kung Fu Naki b. Curt Hawkins

- King Fu Naki got the win via pinfall. The crowd was behind him the entire match.

* A Raw 15th Anniversary video package is shown.

SmackDown: (Airing this Friday)

* Jim Ross comes out dressed up as a sailor, Tazz is a marine.

* SmackDown opens with Vickie Guerrero, Big Show, and Chavo Guerrero all beside a casket. Vickie taunts Undertaker and picks Chavo to face him in a Casket Match.

* John Morrison & The Miz b. WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito & Primo Colon in a non-title match.

- John Morrison got the pin on Carlito for the win. Referee Charles Robinson botched the finish as he counted to three and rang the bell on the wrong finish. The Tag Champs go to the back confused.

* Jimmy Wang Yang comes out in a Cowboy outfit. He's dressed as "John Wayne Yang." He asks the crowd about his costume. Yang then heads to the back to re-do the segment as they didn't announce him as John Wayne Yang and give him a mic...

* Jimmy Wang Yang vs. The Brian Kendrick

- The Brian Kendrick is disqualified when Ezekiel Jackson interferes. After the bell rings Jackson and Kendrick attack Jimmy Wang Yang.

* Backstage, The Great Khali and Rajin Singh are walking when Kung Fu Naki comes up to them and says something. Khali speaks and Singh translates as "size matters" as they keep walking to the ring.

* The Great Khali and Rajin Singh come to the ring as they launch t-shirts into the crowd. Khali then does the Kiss Cam. They find him a woman dressed as a witch to kiss. Khali doesn't want to kiss her but the crowd cheers him on. He kisses her. She then asks for a French kiss. Rajin Singh instructs her to take off her mask and Khali lays one on her!

* Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, & Rey Mysterio b. Mark Henry, MVP, & Kane in a six-man tag team match.

- Rey Mysterio receives a huge pop. Usual back and forth action with Rey taking out Kane on the outside. Jeff Hardy got the win following a swanton bomb.

* Vladimir Kozlov comes out to the ring. He says he should have been in the title match at Cyber Sunday. He says he wants a shot at the title next. Triple H comes out to confront him. They both exchange words and get face-to-face. Kozlov leaves the ring.

* Michelle McCool, Brie Bella, & Maria b. Victoria, Natalya, & Maryse in a six-diva tag match

- Maria gets the wing with a top rope cross-body.

* R-Truth vs. United States Champion Shelton Benjamin for the title is announced for next week's SmackDown.

* Undertaker b. Chavo Guerrero in a Casket Match

- Chavo comes out first. Undertaker is out next to the biggest pop of the night. Big Show comes out and waits at the top of the ramp. Undertaker gets the win after hitting the tombstone on Chavo, rolling him into the casket, and slamming it shut. After the match Big Show attacks Undertaker.

- John Morrison got the pin on Carlito for the win. Referee Charles Robinson botched the finish as he counted to three and rang the bell on the wrong finish. The Tag Champs go to the back confused.

In other words, Carlito didn't kick out in time so Robinson did his job correctly and counted to 3.

Poor Lil' Naitch might be out of a job soon. Don't forget what happened to the other ref that counted a 3 on ECW (?) a few months back when the wrestler forgot to kick out.

Referees are told to call the match as a shoot. How do we know the ref didn't come backstage and start talking shit?

Very true, but who knows for sure?

Fun fact: Before becoming a referee and getting fired, Wes Adams was jobbing on ECW in ealry 2007 or so.

As an episode of The Dirt Sheet pointed out, Wes was fired for counting to 3 even though Morrison kicked out.

He's right though...the last ref that did that (despite the WWE's edict to the refs of calling it like a shoot) was fired that week.

Also...

Chavo pins the ECW champion on Tuesday...so he can lose on Friday? That just comes off as odd.

It is rather confusing. It's not worth bringing up since the guidelines have been very loose since the build to Survivor Series 2006 (I believe that was the point they just had guys showing up on any show as it led to a Hardy reunion that broke all the extension rules when they became tag champs) but if they're going to have a Draft and treat it like a big deal, they should try and give some reasoning behind things like this. At the end of the day, the bradns only exist for touring purposes and that's fine by me.

They went to the extent to set up "working agreements" between Raw and ECW and Smackdown and ECW so that they can just throw ECW people wherever they want, but don't bother explaining why Raw people like Kane can show up on Smackdown or Smackdown's WORLD CHAMPION can just casually show up on Raw. It's fucking stupid and hideously lazy.

Plus Smackdown hasn't actually aired yet so we can't really say the annoucers didn't explain why Kane was there.

Not just Kane, but Rey is also in that match and he's on RAW as well. Looks like they took 1 wrestler from each show and put them in a match, Matt (ECW), Jeff (Smackdown), Rey (RAW) vs Henry (ECW), MVP (Smackdown) and Kane (RAW). It's not that hard to figure that out. Possibly leading up to the big "800th" episode.

Or they're already planning for Survivor Series but that's normally the middle of November.

I have a feeling MVP is the guy jobbing in that 6 man tag. As far as the brand split stuff goes, I don't have a huge problem with it on certain occasions (I'm assuming here Halloween is considered special enough, thus the horror themed Kane is there). I do like it when the graphics and announcers at least refer to someone as a Raw or SD guy though. As in there's nothing wrong with these guys showing up on other shows, but just maintain their home show status.

So how can Kane be on Smackdown if he's on Raw?

They don't even try with this brand extension anymore.

It's one night, for one match. WHO CARES?

What about the countless other times they've done shit like this? (And I'm just talking about the past 6 months or so.) If Vince and Co. can't fill up the shows with wrestlers from that show's own roster on a regular basis, or be bothered to come up with at least a half assed explantion for why a superstar(s) in on a show they wouldn't otherwise be on, then what's the point of the brand extension?

Kane and Rey are in the match because most kids are going to be out trick-or-treating, but if they see Rey Rey is going to be on Smackdown they might try to get home early enough to watch him. And why should they have to offer an explanation every time, when it's always the same reason? "The GM from the other show allowed Superstar X to come over to this show tonight. We are excited to see Superstar X and we thank said GM."

EDIT: Majority of the time, they do give that explanation. Obviously that's not going to be in the spoilers unless the person who wrote them was sitting right behind the announce table and heard the commentators say it. Wait and see if anything is said on the show before complaining.

You mean like they bothered explaining how Primo was on Raw signing a Raw contract and telling Adamle that he can't stand his brother, and then literally 2 weeks later he's on SD teaming with Carlito? Or how they explained why Chavo and Bam Neely are allowed to keep jumping from SD to ECW? Maybe they will bother coming up with something, but you'll have to pardon me if I don't give them the benefit of the doubt.

Think of it like hooking

These "entertainers" are just a couple ho's being pimped out by their GM's to other shows. Put a chalice and Adamle's hand & have him bitch slap Kane.

There was no reason to explain the Primo situation because he had been on Raw once, and nobody gave a shit about him yet. ECW and Smackdown had an ongoing talent exchange, and Chavo is related to the Smackdown GM, so that one is obvious..

I just think it's so pointless for people to still be complaining about guys showing up on other shows for throwaway matches. It makes the shows more entertaining so I really see no reason to complain. If Adamle announced that Batista's first challenger for the title was a guy from Smackdown without an explanation, that might be worth questioning. But seriously, it's a random six-man tag on a "special" edition of Smackdown. Get over it.

The Primo thing with him jumping from Raw to SD happened within a span of 2 weeks, not 8 months, so an explanation was in order. And you're right, ECW did have a talent exchange with SD, but they don't anymore, so they shouldn't be jumping from SD to ECW. Maybe things like logic, continuity, and attention to detail don't bother some, but they obviously bother others. You may want to keep that in mind the next time your tripping all over yourself to defend lazy/bad writing like your employed by The WWE.
