Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 So after Maia gets another victory here, where do they put him next? Maia Vs. Marquardt/Gouveia winner... Makes the most sense to me, winner should get the next shot.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 Yeah, he'll need another fight. Anderson's got Leites and the winner of Hendo/Bisping and IF you believe Dana, Okami all on his plate in 2009 and I see no reason why if GSP beats Alves they wouldn't do that on Super Bowl weekend 2010 so Demian could be waiting a while. So Maia will have to atleast wait until next year. He should beat Sonnen with no real problems, considering Sonnen's sub defense isn't good... Maia has underrated wrestling as well and it wont surprise me to see him take Sonnen down. Maia/Marquardt would be very interesting, especially if it hits the ground. But Marquardt is going to have his hands full with Gouveia, especially if Gouveia comes in 100%.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Stevenson would be in a tough situation if he does lose to Sanchez in a convincing fashion. Could he beat 85% of the LW's in the UFC? I would guess so, but if Diego beats him early on it would be hard to see him as a fighter who could beat the Top 4 guys in his division.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 I doubt Stevenson gets cut if he loses, the UFC seems to love him and keeps giving him high profile fights, even though he was only ever a title contender by default and has lost to every upper level fighter he's faced. He looks destined to be the LW gatekeeper, the guy separating the Penn's & Florian's from the Tibau's & Pellegrino's of the division.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 GOUVEIA MAKES WEIGHT!!!!
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I eagerly await the day when it will no longer be a surprise that ATT fighters can make weight and not test positive for something or other.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 You know there's a problem when Blake Bowman tests positive for unnaturally high levels of estrogen.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Brown usually makes weight for 145, no? Yves Edwards is another name that comes to mind in terms of not struggling with a cut.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Brown usually makes weight for 145, no? Yves Edwards is another name that comes to mind in terms of not struggling with a cut. Din Thomas, Jorge Santiago, Ben Saunders, Cole Miller... Come to think of it ATT has so many fighters under it's stable, it's kinda hard to sterotype them all. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Diego looked fucking shredded. Joe looked soft compared to previous fights.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Even considering the guys who haven't tested positive or missed weight, the sheer numbers of guys from that camp who have done one or the other (Alves, Gandulla, Fiorivanti, Silva, Gouveia, etc.),multiple times in some cases, is ridiculous. Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 What time is this on? I'm checking my local listings and it's not coming up on the channel preview.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 The Score is carrying it live at 3, Spike is showing it at 9 so you've got options.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Sportsnet, not The Score. My bad.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Yeah, thanks just saw it. Free MMA is always good, can't wait for this one. Curious to see how Sanchez responds to the new weight class, and also Marquardt destroying Gouveia should be fun.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 also Marquardt destroying Gouveia should be fun. Don't sleep on Gouveia... He has the skillset to make this fight interesting. You're going to be surprised if you expect Nate to blow past him like he is a tomato can.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Gouveia may have a decent skill set, but that hardly matters when he can't handle pressure for shit. Any success he has is Nate's fault.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Exactly. Gouveia wilts when people put the hurtin' on him, and Nate is one of the more physically imposing middleweights you'll see.

Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Koscheck/Thiago: Koscheck just got Werdum'd. Looked to be winning the standup easily but walked right into a big uppercut. Maybe an early stoppage but Josh was definitely hurt.

Maybe an early stoppage but Josh was definitely hurt. It wasn't early. The replay clearly showed JK was out of it; he had the same look in his eyes Rafael dos Anjos had at UFC 91 when he got knocked out. I thought it was early at first, but the replays make it pretty clear it was a good call
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Holy crap that was a nice KO
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Maia/Sonnen: Chalk up another Team Quest fighter falling victim to Maia's awesome jiu jitsu. Takedown straight to mount, triangle, done. Maia's probably one fight at most from a title shot right now. And Junior Dos Santos looked good again, albeit against an overmatched opponent.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 I don't know. While none of the stoppages were ridiculous, the British refs seem to be cutting knocked down fighters no slack before stepping in.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Good performance by Marquardt but good effort by Gouveia, like I said earlier Gouveia had the skillset to atleast make a fight out of it. Maia/Marquardt will be tits...
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Joe Rogan had it right when he said he wilted, the guy gives up when people put the pressure on him. One of the worst at recovering during bad situations They should call Gouveia the turtle. Not because he's slow, but because hunchback would just be too obvious.
