2GOLD 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 CBS cutting away from the OT game between Illi St/Northern Iowa for the NC/Duke opening two minutes was some lame bull. Yeah, I get it was a big rivalry but the game they had on actually, you know, mattered in terms of who gets to go to the tournament. Last time I checked, NC is getting a #1 and Duke is staring at a #2 at worst and nothing is going to change that. Let the OT game finish, THEN cut to Duke/NC. Or hell, split screen it! CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 More small-conference tournament bids: East Tennessee State (23-10, 14-6 Atlantic Sun, RPI 115) won the Atlantic Sun Conference title. The Moccasins advanced to the tournament for the first time since 2004 as a member of the Southern Conference, which they were forced to leave when they dropped football. The Big South title went to Radford (21-11, 15-3 Big South, RPI 132), who routed VMI in the final. This will be the first trip in 11 years for the Highlanders (I'M ROBBIE!). And, in a double overtime thriller, the fourth-seeded Morehead State Eagles (19-15, 12-6 OVC, RPI 142) nipped defending champion Austin Peay by a basket to win the Ohio Valley title. Morehead State hasn't been to the NCAAs in a quarter century.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 I had something worse than a cutaway to UNC/Duke. There was a lame weather problem in the area so here we had nothing but weather coverage on every station because a few hick towns across the river in Indiana were under a storm warning. Gert T 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 I understand that Gonzaga-St. Mary's is a big game, but I wish they staggered that game so it wouldn't be on at the same time as Siena-Niagra.
Bored 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) The WCC Championship will have big implications on the other bubble teams. If St. Mary's loses it will be interesting to see how much the committee gives them credit for now having Patrick Mills back. They were 18-1 and ranked in the Top 25 before he broke his wrist. Bored 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2009 Only good news for the bubble teams who are not playing tonight as St. May's is getting waxed by Gonzaga and Siena is on their way to winning MAAC title, who would have been an at large candidate if they had lost. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2009 Jaxxson, you do realize that Louisville is a fairly large city bigger than, for instance, Nashville? No inbreeding around here. The point I was making is that the local stations constantly interrupt any programming for the slightest bit of bad weather even if it's not in the nearby area. Which sucks. Congrats to Siena, VCU, and Gonzaga for wins tonight. Given the beating that St. Mary's took tonight I have to wonder if that will cost them an at large with an iffy RPI of 45. Tomorrow night WKU goes for the Sun Belt title against either S. Alabama or Arkansas Little-Rock. S. AL was pretty far ahead at the half last I looked. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2009 VCU has a strong inside game and a solid defense. I think I found my possible bracket buster team. Not much of a stretch coming out of the CAA but when they are on, they do all the things I like in a team to get to the round of 32. The round of 16, I guess it all depends on the seeding and match-up they get. Now watch it be they get the 10 to Florida State's 7. And I don't know if Creighton is getting in. They are on the bubble in a year that the Mid Majors did not impress in the slightest. That could really work against them in a big way. St. Mary's I doubt it getting the benefit of the doubt either after Gonzaga called them Mary and treated them like a bitch.
Guest Czech please! Report post Posted March 10, 2009 Cabbageboy vs. Cowboy Numbers in a college basketball-fueled slapfight that I'm sure nobody wanted to see. Tell me, what's your claim to being a Duke fan, Cowboy Numbers? Did you ever get Jay Bilas's autograph while you were there? Also, Nashville is bigger than Louisville, stupid, and it doesn't matter anyway, because it just means the larger one has more redneck idiots than the other. DePaul finally got a conference win and advanced against Cincinnati, which makes me sad. I wanted to see them complete the perfect season. Apparently this not only scuttles Cincinnati's bid, but also second-round opponent Providence's as well, because even a win against DePaul will be deemed meaningless. Haha, wtg, Big East. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2009 Yay, WKU won tonight over South Alabama so they are now in as well. Western had snuck up to 45 in the RPI, but still an at large likely wasn't happening for them so I'm glad to see them in with the auto bid. For what it's worth here are population stats from 2007 (off www.census.gov): Jefferson County, KY (Louisville): 704,648 Davidson County, TN (Nashville): 613,

Bored 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 Arizona's 24 year tournament run is in serious jeopardy as they lost to ASU in the Pac-10 quarterfinals and have now lost six of their last seven. jimmy no nose 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 Pitt can't play when Blair gets in foul trouble. Of their now 4 losses he's fouled out of 3 and was in foul trouble the whole game in the other. Traditionally the Big East is one of the more "let them play" conferences, so they could be in trouble in the tournament.
