Godzilla Attack Plan

Recommended Posts

This was an assignment I had in one of my classes last week. We do an actual 24 hour crisis simulation in the spring, and we did a practice one last week. The practice one is apparently always some kind of sci-fi type scenario (zombies, Independence Day-esque alien attack, etc.). This year's was a Godzilla attack on NYC.

My group was the Dept. of Defense, and we concentrated mainly on stopping the monster. Other groups included Homeland Security Dept., CIA, city of NY, Canadian Intel, British Intel (MI5), and the EPA. We got periodic intelligence updates from the professor via e-mail. The main criticism our report received concerned our proposed evacuation of NYC. Here's our report:

Prepared for Robert Gates

Subject: sea lizard attack plan

Key points you must know:

-A 200’ lizard appears to be headed toward New York City and will reach Long Island by 4:00 P.M.

-Police and Coast Guard small arms and 76mm guns have proven ineffective.

-The monster has destroyed coastal towns near Long Island with claws, teeth, and fiery breath.

-We have unconfirmed information from Canadian intelligence that the creature is robotic and may contain nuclear material.

Recommendations:

-Declare martial law and mobilize National Guard immediately to begin evacuation plan of New York City.

-Assign Coast Guard to assist evacuation and rescue across waterways.

-Deploy hazmat teams to help contain any nuclear exposure.

-Immediately attack the creature with a non-nuclear EMP device.

-The device should be as small as possible to minimize damage to the surrounding electronic equipment.

-If the EMP attack is unsuccessful, we must assume that the creature is not robotic, and we will proceed with conventional attacks. That said, all forces should be prepared and moved out of the EMP radius until the effects can be verified by Predator UAV’s and satellite imagery.

-Scramble fighter jets from both McGuire Air Force base in New Jersey and Hanscomb air force base in Massachusetts to attack the creature before he reaches Flushing Bay.

-Immediately mass ground forces, armored units and anti-tank weapons from Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn to Astoria Blvd.

-Task artillery from Fort Hamilton to Jane’s Hill. Artillery may not be effective, but may slow it down.

-Dispatch all available naval forces from Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island and Naval Weapons Station Earle in New Jersey.

Last resort plan:

-If the monster overcomes our ground forces, we recommend attacking it with increasing amounts of conventional weapons, including Patriot missiles and bunker busters. If these fail, we will be forced to use nuclear weapons, starting with tactical weapons and proceeding to more powerful weapons.

The bit from Canadian intel about Godzilla being possibly radioactive & robotic came about halfway through our session, and we had to completely retool our plans.

The funny thing is, if Godzilla somehow really could exist, we totally do have the ability to kill him. Even aside from the nuclear option, the US military's offensive technology is so advanced that it's unreal. We've got real working rail-guns and lasers, fer chrissakes. They're expensive as hell, so we don't bother paying a hundred billion bucks for a death ray when the 9mm bullets we have now work just fine on the threats we have now. But if a real rampaging monster ever showed up? We'd find a way to blow its head off. Ain't nothing alive we haven't found a way to kill.

That didn't work the first two times...

I think they tried it again, but I'm not sure how it turned out.

Five times....

Showa era:

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla - defeated by ripping off his head

Terror of Mechagodzilla - the aliens put Mecha-G's controls inside a human brain. Good idea, but the aliens didnt count on the women shooting herself.

Heisei era:

In Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2 - when they rebooted the series - he kinda just self conbusted after fighting Godzilla and Rodan (he killed Rodan and almost had Godzilla but...it didnt turn out that way).

Millenium era:

Godzilla X Mechagodzilla - he was made out of the bones of the 1954 Godzilla and wounded Godzilla by tearing off a nice chunk of Zillas chest and sent him into retreat and then in the sequel Godzilla X Mechagodzilla X Mothra - he (along with help from Mothra) actually fatally wounded Godzilla but then committed suicide and he and the big G plunged into the ocean.

After five films, Mechagodzilla finally beat Godzilla.
