I was remarking more on the idea of Sakurai making his home at 170lbs.

Too bad Sakurai isn't going to perform well at anything but a catch-weight nowadays.

He earned it. Relative to the other guys in the division perhaps, but wins over Jordan (a late replacement journeyman), Varner (whom he was actually losing to) and Fisher aren't exactly the type to stand-out in a division like LW. Spencer Fisher was labeled as a top contender in the divison, and Franca dominated him. And Varner is a really good fighter with the potential, and I thought the fight was 1-1 going into the 3rd round. Fisher still has not fully rebounded from the loss to Sam Stout, and at this point is teetering on verge of "Coulda'-Shoulda'-Woulda'"-dom. To me, it's still a sign of the resurrected division's growth period that a guy with losses to most of the top fighters he's faced is its top contender (without having won a TUF title shot, that is).

As much as I hate to say it, that's simply the kind of shit that happens in street fights. Marlon's a piece of shit, but Noah had to know what he was getting into to some extent, and instead of waiting for a proper time and place he decided to sink to Marlon's level. Besides, it's not like there was any sort of "gentleman's agreement" between the two on how it should play out.

I'm guessing here, but I think the openweight bracket is made up largely of volunteers on the weekend of the tournment, depending on who's feeling up to it and/or really wants the chance at some cash.
