  1. That virtual Tim Lincecum ad is kinda cute the first few times but it loses a bit of its luster on the fortieth viewing.
  2. Well, that was fun while it lasted.
  3. Anybody notice that Mexico's down 3-0 to Australia in the top of the first? I was really curious as to how that happened until I saw that Oliver Perez was starting.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

T.O., Bills Near One-Year Deal Oh man. Have fun with that, Buffalo.
  5. They could have sold out Dolphin Stadium two times over with ex pats alone. Talk about a hot crowd.
  6. Man, can't even make jokes at my own team's expense anymore. Everybody's too unbelievably hilarious already.
  7. They actually did it. Up until the last second I was expecting a walk-off home run from, hell, anyone on the roster. Unbelievable.
  8. Hot damn what an amazing play that was. Got a little too aggressive with the baserunning, there.
  9. Yeah, but on the other hand, this Netherlands/Dominican game has been surprisingly good. The Dutch are five outs away from winning, for God's sake.
  10. Is that the "Krusty Krab Theme" they're playing over the Netherlands roster? Wow, 3-0 Dutch in the top of the 1st. Ball hasn't even made it out of the infield.
  11. Looking at the roster the immediate answer appears to be Angel Berroa or Cody Ransom.
  12. Santana might miss Opening Day after all. I say might only because the Mets haven't confirmed the report yet. http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/baseball...pening_day.html Hoo boy.
  13. Despite all the problems surrounding this event it was great fun to watch the first time around. I'm really looking forward to this, although I'm still baffled as to why Italy, Australia, South Africa and the Netherlands even bother.
  14. Here I thought the Mets had a glut of outfielders. All those guys could theoretically earn starting positions on at least a couple of teams. Very strange.
  15. Thank God. 'Course, the Jets QB situation is completely up in the air now, but it'd be hard to imagine any of the possible outcomes being worse than another year of Favre. Kellen Clemens, Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge are all pretty mediocre. I gotta imagine they draft a QB this year and sign some journeyman as a stopgap.
  16. Not bad. Seems like fair value for his services, and even if he should go off the rails again it's not an albatross of a contract by any means. Santana/Perez/Maine/Pelfrey/Redding, Garcia or Niese. Sheets would be nice, but I can live with that.
  17. Which sport is the National Pastime shouldn't be dictated by its current popularity. The phrase itself is in direct contradiction to that line of thinking. What the National Pastime represents is the sport that has the longest and most storied history, the one whose saga has been most closely tied to that of our country. That's baseball.
  18. Man, I was really hoping this would come paired with a Cardinals win, but oh well. Yet again talented teams are trumped by a mediocre squad that gets hot at the right time. Whoo!
  19. Sounds like a pageturner!
  20. With the money they'd have to spend on Manny they could probably afford both Sheets and one of the other decent starters floating around. I'd much rather they go that route.
  21. The Mets just signed Freddy Garcia to a one-year minor league (!) deal which could reach up to $9 million should he make the team and meet all incentives. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2009...-with-mets.html The squad's got plenty of back-end rotation options now (Garcia, Redding, Niese, Maine, Pelfrey if he regresses) which is nice considering the bad luck they've had with pitching injuries the last couple years. I hope they'll pursue Sheets but I'd be fairly comfortable with the rotation if they decide to go with Perez, Garland, or Wolf.
  22. Mets signed journeyman Cory Sullivan today, continuing their baffling tradition of stockpiling as many backup outfielders as possible. Including Nick Evans and Daniel Murphy the team had six outfielders before this signing (I think). Very strange.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

Rex Ryan, Court-Appointed Lawyer is on the job! I'm very happy with the decision, partly because I think Ryan is a great fit, mostly because the position isn't going to Brian Schottenheimer.
  24. Bring it!
