I can't believe there isn't a thread on this yet. This trailer has me even more excited to see the movie than I already was. This looks to be one of the best movies ever made and some of the images in the trailer are just incredible. I was blown away...

GENESIS (And Countdown To) Comments!
Kaertos replied to Chuck Woolery's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
OK... now that I have had time to finish reading the monster that is Genesis IV, i feel like I can make some comments, late though they may be... Part One Opening Very well done. I particuarly liked using the actual lyrics from O Fortuna and wrapping the package around it. My only complaint would be the formnatting (I thought the giant green letters were a little much) and the length of some of the clips chosen. It doesn't move along at the crisp pace the music suggests, but a damn fine way to start the show nonetheless as it really gave it a big-show, special feeling. WildChild / Johnny Promo Well, I wasn't expecting that. I have to admit that when I read it my first thought was that this was a stryline way to write off the match because one of them no-showed and the other one wrote a 200 word special. Well written and suprising, it really set the tone for the show with a little twist, a little brutality and a good angle development. Tales of the Tape I'm going to cover them all here as they are pretty much the same throughout. I really liked this for a big show and I am hoping they don't get over-used. These feel to me like a great way to get a very special event over and I am afraid that I'm going to be seeing them in front of every match now. Ejiro v. Va'aiga - Va'aiga's entrance ruled. Shades of the Undertaker... - Ejiro's entrance was wonderful and perfectly in character, but it felt rushed. Like there was more Ejiro wanted to say but felt he didn;t have time. - Now we hit two of my pet peeves in a row. I hate it when wresters are announced after both entrances and after both are in the ring. I know this is how some promotions do it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I'd never mark off points for it in a match, but it does bug me. The other is this: In a title match, the referee will take the belt from the champion, show it to the challenger and then show it to all four sides of the arena. I think it ads importance to the start of the match, kind of a reminder of what is at stake. - Good use of commentary early in the match to set up and reinforce the psychology. - I like the contrast between Ejiro's techical and speed based styleand Va'aiga'a power based style. Ejiro played this off well, setting up some really nice visuals and good spots in the match middle. - I like how hooking the leg is sold as an important thing. Always makes me a happy reader. - As an aside to what I said before, Ejiro did a good job of making Va'aiga seem intelligent as opposed to writing him as a pure monster which would have been really easy given the "tech v power" theme. - Don't ask me why, but I thought Va'aiga escapingthe STF by biting Ejiro was great. - I didn't think I was going to like the time-limit draw, as I am not a big fan of time-limis in the first place. However, it was built to well and I think Ejiro pulled it off. Would I rather have had a decisive ending? well, yes. But this is a fine match that made Ejiro look like the canny catch-as-catch-can wrestler he is and made Va'aiga look strong. Well done. TBS Promo hehe... "Mr. Strangler". That's funny. And I weep for the secretarial staff that organizes lists by first names. The only complaint about this is that is almost over-sells the Wilson thing and that immediatly made me think swerve. But I think it did a very effective job at painting TBS as on edge and a little paranoid that Wilson is coming back. Good build for later. WildChild Update Nice little moment here as WC is taken away by ambulance. As I said, on first reading I was sure this was setting up a "no-show / 200 word match" thing, but I liked the way it was handled. This is the kind of simple little thing that really sells the story and makes the show seem more like a real wrestling program. -
That's what I meant. It certainly felt longer than 3 years to me. I was 7 when Empire came out and 10 when Jedi hit. My did pulled me out of school early so I could go to the early shows the day they opened.

Sorry, I meant Arwen. That post was written at work and I was interrupted about 12 times. As far as adapting the works, there always have to be changes made between a written medium and a visual one. There are compromises to be made and it is the writer's and director's task to make those changes flow as if they have always been a part of the narrative. I think Peter Jackson has done a spectacular job adapting one of the most dense and detail filled novels ever written into two (hopefully three) easy to understand movies that have many if not all of the same themes and symbols. Not an easy task. I guess what I am saying is, as sacreligous as it sounds, I don't think I would have enjoyed a straight book to film adaptation of the Lord of the Rings. For goodness sake, they would barely have mde it to Rivendell in the first movie, and it would have been an hour of the Old Forest and Tom Bombadil.

As I said in the previus post, I can get them done in practically any color. I guess I'll have to dig that up and repost the info...

I maintain that, if you read the book and think that Aragorn should be with Eowyn over Arwen haven't read anything in the appendix. And to be honest, I still don't understand what all the Eowyn hate is about. It's like people had to find something to bitch about in these movies and she is the easiest target. Look at it this way... her role is smaller than it was going to be...

This is nothing. The longest wait was between Empire and Jedi... waiting to find out if Vader was really Luke's father was torture for me as a kid.

I copied all of the pertinent data from the other thread. let's use this one to discuss further...

I'd like to see it, but I have so given up on the Oscars that I don't really care all that much. Which is too bad because i used to really enjoy them... But regardless, I am looking forward to sitting down with this movie in a couple of months and being blown away. This is the only movie coming up I am letting myself have expectations for, because I am pretty sure I will not be disappointed.

Wow. But, King is right. Let's move the Website discussion into another thread and get this one back on topic...

True... and I'll give you that, but when I was thinking "villains" I automatically think "the big evil booga-booga behind it all". Artemis was awesome until he became friggin' immortal. Drizzt cut him up like a hundred times but something always kept him from dying. It got a little ridiculous. The biggest downfall of that series is that nobody ever died and stayed that way.

I have three... Sauron & the Nazgul from Lord of the Rings Brand from The Chronicles of Amber Lloth from Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy

And my response... Break it down into whatever phases you have to to make it work. Most of what you said above makes perfect sense, so I don't have a lot to add. What I do have to say will follow below: I wasn't expecting, and frankly don't care, if the mark-ups are the same as the board. I usually mark-up the cards after they are written anyways. All I meant was that it would be far easier to input if I didn't have to type it twice. About joining - I honestly hadn't thought about updating the joining info online as we don't need to do it that often. If you get to that great, if not I don't think this is the biggest issue we need to concern ourselves with. As far as the screener goes, we should set them up with an e-mail to send the apps to. Maybe something at theswf.net? Who is the screener now anyways? This sounds more like a phase 2 project to me because it sounds very complicated. However, I think it is a spectacular idea and needs to happen. Our history is starting to disappear and being able to go back and see it would be wonderful. That's all I have to add for now...

From the client (CC) perspective, here is what we ultimately want. - Professional looking front page that advertises who we are and makes it easy to navigate the site for both newbies and vets. - ease of updating - Ideally, I would like to take the card I write in Notebook (that I paste into the post) and paste it into a dialogue box on the website. Same goes for title belts, schedule and "Commisioner's Notes". Give us the ability to write it offline and paste it in without having to worry about coding it. - Updated Rosters - Give everyone in the Fed a way to submit and update their stats on the webpage. In addition, a way for someone on the admin side to edit the roster and get rid of people who are gone. - Image repository - A place images can be uploaded and accessed for sigs, in-show graphics and such. These would be the "official" graphics and approved by someone in CC. - Joining Info should be re-written and made easier to do online. Maybe a fill-in form for newbies to use that could be sent to the appropriate person. Make it more of an impulse decision to send the stats in. Once they are in the door, we have them. - Search engine - The title histories in particular should be done in such a way as to be searchable. I may be able to help here as I have recently started work on a Microsoft Access Database holding all of the title data, which would make it easier to sort and pull interesting data out of. I am doing this for myself, but would be happy to share. - Finally, remember that this will be the most visible portion of our on-line presence. It should be as professional and dynamic as possible, while keeping in mind that not everyone has a broadband connection and a 1024x768 screen. Navigation and ease of browsing hould be a priority, as should putting our logo and links to join everywhere. These are all long term goals, and overall I think they are useable. If you need someone to look at your work in a more "official" (watever that means around here) capacity, I would be happy to do so. Also, I would be happy to design any logo type graphics you need. Let me know. Oh... one other thing. It needs to be programmer / developer independent. I can see a day when the people who do the website aren't around anymore. There should be an easy way to pass the keys on to the next generation, so to speak.

As the marker of the epic Danny / TNT match, allow me to say that I agree with what Danny said. But don;t let that fool you. This was a great freakin' match. I had a heck of a time deciding between the two. It finally came down to the endings, and I felt like the TNT match had the more emotional, more satisfying ending. But if you ever wondered how a test of strength could be epic, read that match. One of the greatest sequences in my match marking history.

Recently, and I know I will get a load of crap for this, the ending to Episode II gave me chills. The whole "Begun this Clone War has" leading into the incredible "Across the Stars" music over the secret wedding... damn.

What we need (and God knows I don't know how to do it) is what we used to call "version 2.0" of the site. Something written in a real language that woud allow easy updates so everything isn't hard-coded every single time. I know work on this stalled, and I don't remember who was involved, but I think the talent is there. The easier we make it to update, the better the site will be.
-
Hear that? That's the sound a can of worms being opened makes... I think this could be a good idea, but we will have to see who has the time to keep the web site up to date.
-
Its cool. This way I don;t have to mark my matches while half-asleep. I can mark them while I am distracted by the television in the break room at lunch tomorrow.
-
I was looking over this list and it suddenly occured to me that both matches people talk about the most involving me happened in a four month span from January 2001 to April 2001. Even I forget about some of the pretty incredible matches from back in the IGNWF days...

The 3rd Annual SWF Awards Nominations
Kaertos replied to HVilleThugg's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
Not me... no way I'm going to help Thugg out with anything after that bastard brother of his tried to drive my knee through the friggin' ring into China! he's lucky Edwin showed up and got us to work together long enough to maybe walk away with the commissionership... What? Yes... I know what kayfabe is... What do you mean no one believes it anymore? Dang... Well, I guess that means I'll help too if you need it, but from what you've said, this sounds like a perfect "Too many cooks spoil the broth" situation. -
