  1. well considering that we watched video package highlights of Chris Masters' Master Lock Challenge.... no, I don't think he's kidding.... Hardy could have made them a lot of money and they were clueless as to how to capitalize on the anti-company, indie wrestling, disgruntled fired employee, loose-cannon part of his character... instead, they get their jollies every week jobbing him out repeatedly despite his pops... yes, Hardy has flaws, a lot of those were made noticeable in this feud with Edge but there is more of an upside to pushing him as there is Snitsky or Chris Masters - just as there is for pushing Shelton Benjamin over Chris Masters or Kerwin White... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hardy could of been the next loose cannon but then they realized they he could'nt cut a promo so they made him a jobber? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The angle was ruined before the bad promo from the moment Vince McMahon introduced him, Hardy exited a limo and shook Vince's hand. Hardy's delivery was very poor but the whole promo was bad and it wasn't the type of promo he should've cut. It should have been laced with references to internet smarks, indie promotions like ROH, his best friend, girlfriend and company wronging him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If Owen Hart went over HBK for the IC title, he'd be an instant main eventer! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If only they would have played off of his "Black Heart" character more when he re-appeared after the Montreal screwjob, to a great pop and delivered a strong promo. The angle had people talking and then HBK refused to job and Owen's push was minimal from that point on. So minimal that he sadly had to bring back the Blue Blazer.
  2. That would be kind of funny. I always pushed for them to have part of Eugene's character to be an internet smark. It would be a way to play off of Eugene's wrestling savant act while poking fun at us.

  5. I'm not saying he originated it... I'm saying that you're seeing it a hell of a lot more, those guys mimic wrestlers, especially ones that are "over" or popular... i'm sure someone did a crotch chop before the NWO and DX too...
  6. It's ironic that people are pointing to John Cena "not being over" as the reason for RAW losing ratings to MNF when pretty much every NFL game that I watched on Sunday had at least one player doing the 'you can't see me' hand motion whenever they made a tackle, sack or big run.
  7. but their match did suck....
  8. Yes, that is exactly the direction I thought they'd go in with the gimmick originally. Rene Dupree could over hear him commenting to others in the locker room how he "conned" Dupree into the idea that he was a french sympathizer. You know, they could have fun with him the "conman" constantly pulling one over on others on the roster. Instead they make him Buff Bagwell II. Another thing.... that interview that was just posted on wwe.com . Did anyone notice how much better Conway was on the mic and how the character was slightly more effective than on TV, probably because his lines weren't completely scripted for him?
  9. I'm not disputing that at all and I don't expect anyone to agree with me because TNA isn't proven at all. I'm saying that there is a larger audience from 10:00pm forward at least according to RAW rating trends. Monday Night Football's audience also flips around if the game is uneventful. Pro wrestling fans will tune in at 9pm out of habit and when they don't see guys flipping around in a wrestling ring or screaming into the mic they will know that something just isn't right and will channel surf to find RAW. I just personally think an alternative pro wrestlling product would hold their attention longer before a complete alternative to the spectacle they've grown accustomed to. Ultimate Fighter does score relatively high ratings but it's also proven to lose a sizeable audience from the RAW overrun. Also, since this will be a live "special attraction" presentation, they need to keep in mind that RAW on USA isn't the only cut into their demographic but Monday Night Football as well. Perhaps more so than pro wrestling. Why not go for a potentially larger audience from 10 to midnight, picking up the audience that leaves both WWE and MNF with a replay of Ultimate Fighter at midnight? It just makes more sense to me. They aren't going to run two hour UFC specials in RAW's slot on a weekly basis so there is no "monday night war" to launch. They have one hour of Ultimate Fighter and one hour of TNA wrestling. Why not try to bring a pro wrestling audience to their new pro wrestling product? Obviously I'm overlooking the ad revenue they could generate with UFC in prime time vs. TNA I suppose. I understand their position, I just question it somewhat.
  10. I still think they are overlooking the fact that much of pro wrestling's audience are not necessarily fans of ultimate fighting. It would be more logical to put TNA on at 9pm, at least the night of Raw's USA debut and hype the hell out of UFC action that will run from 10pm to midnight. Raw's first quarter hour always seems to be on the low end because everyone fears the 25 minute HHH promo and would rather watch the beginning of Monday Night Football. Raw gains viewers as the evening progresses so there would probably be some people tuning into Spike for the first time around 10pm.
  11. No chance. PPV's are 1 of their big money-makers, which is why they added *more* PPV's. Cutting back to 5 would be financially unwise. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's why I put eight PPVs in my scenario. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And let's not forget that they could supplement cutting down on the number of traditional PPV's by other services like Video on Demand on cable and the Internet. There is money to be made from the video vault they've accumulated over the past few years. They have a good production team who could produce something like the Eddie Guerrero documentary that was wasted by airing on UPN when they could've thrown it on PPV or VOD with matches and then a DVD with added footage and matches. I like the idea of eight PPV's with most of them being "special gimmick match attractions" like the Rumble, King of the Ring tournament, Survivor Series tag matches and maybe a War Games/Hell In the Cell bloodfest type PPV. It's a necessity to do this if they plan on keeping the brand extension. The roster split limits the number of PPV selling matches because due to the pacing of television and how jobber/squash matches are never utilized anymore we now see everyone on the roster in the ring together at some point on free television. Why pay $30 like someone stated? We see Cena and Angle fighting every week? Not to mention putting Hardy and Benjamin in PPV slots and using them as enhancement talent on television. Creative's current pacing gives you no other option but to limit the PPV's or have the PPV's built on gimmick matches so storylines aren't rushed and the audience isn't expected to pay for something they will see for free on upcoming television, if they haven't already.
  12. If I recall, they used to show a small window of the promo in the corner of the screen, so they never had to cut away from the ring. I think it could still work. Some of these promos lasted maybe five seconds and amounted to nothing more than "I am going to kick your ass in our next match." That's really all you need sometimes. At any rate, I guess we both agree what we have now sucks large and out loud. HHH in particular needs to learn that not speaking immediately makes it look he's forgotten his lines, it doesn't build drama. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, we are definitely in agreement. And you're right, the prepackaged promos were usually split screen and they never cut away from the ring. The point I was trying to make with whether or not they could be inserted into live action is the fact that Raw is live. I would assume there was a lot of production and editing involved with the old style. Even the commentary wasn't live and they were usually broadcasting from the studio and watching monitors. Still, I would assume today that the announcers are getting comments from backstage in their ears as they announce so I imagine that it would be easy to slip a pre-taped interview into the action. But the pacing of today's show is also different. Those pre-taped promos were during squash matches and they were only trying to build the talent that was winning the squash. So you got to see their move set and hear them a bit on the mic discuss whatever program or feud they were involved in. It really was a better way to develop a talent and push storylines forward. Now the programs with one guy vs. this guy really don't get time to build as they rush the match into this month's PPV and we are usually seeing the two guys in the ring together in tag matches for instance to build to their singles match. So it wouldn't make sense to have Matt Hardy doing a pre-taped promo on Edge as he's about to lose to Snitsky or Shelton cut a promo on Kerwin White as he's about to lose to Rob Conway. In the old days, Cade/Murdoch would debut and destroy a bunch of jobbers to establish themselves while cutting pre-taped promos on the tag champions. Today they debut against the tag team champions before they are established. It's just all f'd up today.
  13. AMEN. This might not be a popular view, but in my opinion, there is nobody in WWE capable of a 20 minute promo. Not even if they brought the Rock back and had him trip on acid the whole time. I'd say 10 minutes max, but I like your idea of five. Less is more. They also need to do prepackaged promos so they can quickly add them in during a slow period, such as during some restholds. It would make such better use of the time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or do something similar to what ECW used to do. Prior to the beginning of a match allow the participants to have the mic and cut brief promos on each other or say a few things to get heat from the crowd. I like the idea of the old styled prepackaged promos but I'm not sure if they could be inserted into live action. Perhaps during intros or something. It worked on Superstars and Challenge back in the day and was often the only time you'd hear Hercules or Hillbilly Jim getting mic time. You didn't have to be a great talker. Just made your point in a short but effective manner. Same with the old style interviews I mentioned on the stage or top of the ramp with someone like Mean Gene. The 25 minute in-ring promo is something that definitely needs to go. It's a remnant from Crash TV and the Monday Night Wars but at that time you had Nash/Hall/Hogan, DX, Stone Cold, The Rock and Mick Foley, all of whom were capable of going 25 minutes on the mic. There aren't great talkers these days. Shawn Michaels may be the only one that can do 25 minutes of mic work effectively. HHH is just terrible to watch. Someone like Batista is better on the mic in short doses. Same with John Cena. The longer you put certain guys out there, without an interviewer, the more they are exposed. A recent example being Matt Hardy. People like Shelton Benjamin, RVD, Matt Hardy, Edge, Chris Benoit, Rey Misterio, etc. need mic time but don't fit into that 25 minute promo style. Just scratch that time and give the roster time to work on their promo skills, not lamely written stupid back stage skit exchanges. .
  14. It's obvious major changes are needed. Unfortunately I think it's very unlikely that we will see anything, at least until some form of competition enters the picture, possibly TNA or UFC cutting into their audience. They should be viewing the rest of television as their competition but what other television show could have ratings slip like they have within the past few years and make absolutely no changes to the presentation, focus of the show, writing teams, announce teams and overall product? STEPHANIE MCMAHON: The Stephanie experiment on creative needs to end. Preferably once they move RAW back to the USA network. She's had long enough. She understands how the process works by now. But there are money and rating generating angles that need to be produced and Stephanie and the current writers have not been able to bring anything to that level. As long as she's married to Hunter, whenever the elder McMahons croak, HHH will be the "wrestling mind" of the family. Stephanie needs to learn how to run the business in the same type of role as Linda McMahon. Vince is a PR nightmare whenever he speaks with the media and it's obvious by the last investor conference call that Linda is weak in the role as well. Stephanie is young. She's somewhat attractive at times. I'm thinking she could present herself well in a company spokesperson role. Let her write a book about growing up in the business, marrying HHH, etc. Let her appear on Oprah. Pose in Playboy if she wants. She should be pushed in the same "power female" position as Hugh Hefner's daughter with the Playboy enterprise. And there should be a media buzz that daddy's little girl is running the testosterone ridden business. Just remove her from creative already. NEW ANNOUNCERS: Monday Night Football, which is really Raw's main competition at this time, when ever their ratings for the season slip, they immediately focus attention to the entertainment provided not by the NFL games themselves but their announcing booth. Raw has suffered terribly the past few years due to the tired act of Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross. It was already tired back when Lawler walked out on the WWF and Paul Heyman took his role on color. It was immediately tired again when Jerry Lawler returned, seemingly confused as to be a face or heel, terribly unfunny, off-color at times and down right counter productive in creating new stars (Shelton Benjamin's criminal record comes to mind). Jim Ross is stale but can still be great when the moment calls for it. He's the voice of WWE but he needs to be phased out. Joey Styles or Mike Tenay are the only announcers in the business worthy of being the heir apparent but both chances for either are unlikely. I really feel they are dropping the ball with Styles however. Yes, I know he wants to keep his day job but if anyone came out of the ECW PPV a star, it was Joey Styles and WWE should have seen that. So keep JR for the time being but build a new leading commentator. It's not Steve Romero. It's not Michael Cole. Josh Matthews is still a possibility but not yet. It's not Coach either. I like the three man team but I would put Jim Ross, Coach and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the Raw team slot. Or maybe, with Legends and 24-7, just have JR and Coach with a revolving team of analysts commentating with them. Roddy Piper for a few weeks leading into a PPV. Kevin Nash or Scott Hall for a few weeks leading into the next PPV. Jake Roberts (although his voice seemed shot), Randy Savage, Jesse Ventura during sweeps. It could be entertaining. Like others have suggested, put Josh Matthews into the Michael Cole/Tazz tandem on Smackdown. IF THERE ARE GOING TO BE TWO BRANDS - THERE MUST BE TWO SEPERATE CREATIVE TEAMS!!!!! It's the only way it's worth splitting the rosters like this. Creating competition within the company. Each creative team and each roster truely trying to be more entertaining than their opposing company. NO MORE CRAPPY TV WRITERS: But I'm not saying no television writers. I'm saying no more writers with She's the Sheriff, Big Wolf On Campus and Chips on their resume. Have a traditional wrestling booking team for each show combined with QUALITY television writers that wouldn't mind the challenge of structuring a season of sports entertainment (I guess a season finale is Wrestlemania) to their resumes. Instead of paying Johnny Ace such a huge contract for hiring a bunch of stiffs just because he thinks Vince will pop a boner - pay a solid television writer with GOOD credentials to make your company some money. RE-SIGN PAUL HEYMAN AND USE HIM IN A CREATIVE CAPACITY CHANGE THE LOOK AND STRUCTURE OF EACH SHOW: Already discussed by many others. If you are a wrestling fan who stopped watching in 2000 and you tune in to Raw - the show feels like a tired version of what you loved in 2000. It looks and sounds the same. They should have a different look each year post Wrestlemania. Different sets, color schemes, lighting, announcing team changes, etc. The show structure is of course also in desperate need of a makeover. It's been the same formatting for years for the most part. Long-winded in-ring promo by someone. Backstage segments that lack believability, humor and most of the time any entertainment factor. There is no reason a new set can't include a stage setting where Maria, Josh Matthews or Todd Grisham can bring out people for interviews in front of the live audience just like Mean Gene or Craig Degeorge used to do on Superstars or Challenge. If there are going to be interview segments like Carlito's Cabana - build the guy a set like the old Piper's Pit, Barber Shop or Brother Love set. There can still be a backstage locker room interview or a unexpected cam catching something they shouldn't but the whole travelling Bischoff/Teddy Long office thing and wrestlers not knowing there is a camera in the ring just sucks. Dim the lights a bit. Raw is too bright. It looks awful especially whenever the pyro smoke is all over the arena. It's annoying watching people try to get their signs on camera and not paying attention to the match. The focus should be on the guys in the ring. REALITY TELEVISION: Well, kind of. If you want to get someone like Shelton Benjamin over, produce a Confidential like feature to run in installments detailing his childhood, teenage years, wrestling training, WWE history, etc. Run short "entertainment" pieces on Big Show's days as a bouncer, a classic segement to promote 24-7. It doesn't always have to be meaningless match followed by semi meaningful match followed by match to build to the next PPV. Confidential was a good show that for the most part portrayed wrestling in a very interestling light. Yes, they walked the line of breaking kayfabe a bit but not really. Most of the pieces. Things like Brock vs. Rocks working out leading into their Summerslam match or Kurt Angle revisiting the Olympic training facilities or something like Renee Dupre's family background in the business, his training, etc. would have fit right in on WWE television. BRING BACK SQUASH MATCHES: Granted, not an hour's worth of squash matches like TNA Impact! but some short squashes, using legit indie guys that can bump like crazy and make someone look really good. Don't put signed contract guys into jobber roles just to get them air time. Bring back the "television jobber". Two marquee matches that are given a good amount of time and promoted throughout the show. WWE 24-7 IS THE WRESTLING NETWORK: Put OVW and Deep South Wrestling on the network. Have ROH and various independents sign with WWE 24-7 to put their programming on the network. Make a deal with lucha libre and Japan. Give Dave Meltzer an "insiders" style show that appeals to smart fans. Do Behind The Music type pieces on people like Jake Roberts, Eddie Gilbert, The Von Erichs, etc. I need to stop, I'll be here all night.
  15. They absolutely must replay the October 1 TNA show following or leading into UFC.
  16. I wish the commercials were of a better production quality. I also think they should focus on certain talent and big spots and try to capitalize on the fact that TNA will offer high impact action and less soap opera storylines and scripted mic work. Now that would piss them off. I think Spike is missing out big time if they don't repeat Impact on Monday nights at 11:05, especially the week of the final RAW, they should have a Best of TNA type show on immediately afterwards. There could be a Saturday night audience but they need to know whether or not it's worth the extra effort to catch.
  17. c'mon, let me have fun with Funakio, Funaki in a wife beater, hair greased back, trying to talk with a brooklyn accent, singing Sinatra, WWE completely forgot that the FBI gimmick was supposed to be funny....
  18. Just scrap the division all together and use the cruisers to create legitimate tag team divisions on Smackdown and Raw. You could have: MnM Spanky/Paul London - Team X-Treme Juvi/Super Crazy/Psychosis - Mexicools Funakio and Nunzio - Full Blooded Italians Frankie Kazarian and Matt Bentley - Total Nonstop Action Teddy Hart and Harry Smith - Hart Foundation Hurricane and Nova Jamie Noble and Stevie Richards Johnny Jeter and Matt Cappotelli (w/ an OVW storyline explanation, maybe bring them in with Heyman) Steven Regal and Paul Birchill Cade and Murdoch
  19. I've been trying to find a reliable person to send me weekly OVW tapes on a steady basis. I'm really interested in seeing the television that Heyman is doing. Email [email protected] if you can help. Sorry for posting something like this in this particular thread but.... i really want to see this stuff I'm reading about here.
  20. I like it when guys that spend time posting on online message boards make fun of women with weight issues. Then again, I'm a chubby chaser, so hearing guys crack on heavier girls in general just bothers me. Once voluptuous and attractive women like Lindsey Lohan and Christina Ricci are walking around looking like aborted fetus models thanks to any "thickness" attributes, ie big boobs and an ass, being considered "chunky". Moving on, Sunny's problem right now isn't her weight. Granted, she doesn't have the body type of other Divas, her main issue is what the hard life, drug and alcohol abuse has done to her face. That's not weight, that's aging. She's lost a good bit of the extra poundage she was carrying. Her legs are looking good compared to what they were a few months ago. She's just not a toned/tanned 21 year old like she was in 1996. I personally would like to see them bring her back and try her in a creative position. She's been watching this stuff most of her life. She has brains. Perhaps she and Stephanie would hit it off. If WWE is serious about wanting to bring her back on camera, they could do one of those "Remaking" shows on VH1. Remaking a WWE Diva, Sunny - or whatever.
  21. from frankiekazarian.com Ok......I am no longer with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Yeah, by now you knew that. In the end, I feel just did not fit personally or professionally with the company, at this point in my career. It was decided by both sides, that we, at this time should no longer do business. WWE is a great company, and I wish all the people there nothing but the absolute best. Lets face it, WWE is the reason a lot of folks are wrestling fans today. While there, I learned so much, and was able to reconnect with some old friends, as well as make some new ones. I thank everyone there for their help and input, and I thank the WWE for the fantastic opportunity. To my fans, you have been amazing, and I cant thank you enough for the outpouring of support I have received in the last few days. In times like these, you realize who your real friends are. I am so motivated to get back into the ring ASAP. Thank you all so much, and God bless. Frankie My take, while the losing Frankie Kazarian isn't a huge blow to WWE, I think they need to realize exactly what's going on here. It's never a positive sign when young talent are requesting their release from what's supposed to be the "big leagues". Think of the decline of WCW and what it meant when guys like Raven, Benoit, Eddie, Saturn, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko, etc. were asking for their release. You don't hear of major league prospects being called up to the New York Yankees only to decide, "this isn't for me, i'd rather go back to the minors". This company is not professionally run. It's embarassing enough when creative team members know less about past storylines than Diva competition rejects - and it's posted to the Internet - but when creative's stupidity and lack of knowledge about the product is actually making young good workers head for the door - it's not the big time anymore, Vince.
  22. Remember all that backlash when I suggested HHH as a vital member of WWE creative in our "fantasy creative team" thread? Well, I stand by that opinion. I understand that having an active wrestler in a creative or booking role has a bad bad history. This isn't just an active wrestler though. This is someone that will eventually be running the freakin' company. This is someone that is a student of the game, not to sound like JR. If he's going to be a running the company in twenty years then you have to get him involved in the process and not just booking his own angles for his own agenda. You have to see what he can offer creatively to others on the roster. Can he make people care about Shelton Benjamin and take that character from the smiling black babyface that gets a pop with just his flashy moves to the TO of WWE? Is he working with Jericho right now on his heel role with Cena? Is he in the ear of Matt Hardy and Edge? I don't think his involvement in creative is at that level yet but it needs to be very soon. He needs to retire or cut down his role to the legend that comes out for an occassional pop and take the head creative role from Stephanie. It would only improve the product. I doubt very much that he is a huge supporter of the current creative team that know nothing about the business. This is a man who watches old wrestling tapes for fucking fun and amusement and because he loves those old storylines and characters. And for everyone who is on here saying, "oh yeah he buried shelton, wants to make Chris Masters a star, hates cruisers, etc. let's not forget that this is the man who jobbed to Shelton, gave Taka Michinoku perhaps his best WWF moment and pushed for Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrerro to be champions going into Wrestlemania 20 (supposedly along with Michaels). I want him out of the ring and in booking for christ sakes! And if he's no longer presented as "one of the boys" and is looked upon the same way as Vince and other McMahons, maybe there wouldn't be as much hostility from the locker room. http://www.pittsburghnetradio.com
  23. I was actually thinking during this week's Velocity that Kazarian may be the one X Division/Cruiserweight styled guy that had a "future" in WWE. He's not too small, he can talk and adapting to a more WWE logic style wouldn't necessarily take away from his in-ring contributions, unlike the little guys who are dependent on aerial and big bumps. I was thinking he had a Curt Henning type of appeal that they may like. This really sucks if it's true. With Velocity going off the air soon, I was hoping they'd at least realize that they have workers like Kazarian, Spanky, London, Juvi, Super Crazy, etc. that can go and at least fill up time on Smackdown with good wrestling. It's just unbelievable how badly they take that division for granted. It's something that I think they will ultimately regret when TNA catches on a little bit for filling that void on WWE programming. Not that TNA is going to make a huge ratings impact but those who will watch just may realize what a joke WWE tv has become and how little they value good workers and wrestling.
  24. I miss Hollywood as well. I miss the Voodoo Child entrance. I miss the black and white. I miss the painted on beard. The red and yellow, Real American, thing was nice for a one time nostalgia trip but let's not forget that this particular image of Hogan was getting booed before he even turned heel. So, Summerslam.... Nash and Hall appear at ringside to cheer on HBK and then attack Michaels, leading to HHH and Sean Waltman coming to his aid. Yeah, I know, get out of 1998. I'm trying but it was just better back then.
  25. I've always felt that they should do something like this. One has to wonder if Vince has any regrets about killing the territory system like he did. The business was going to change and evolve because of cable anyway and there was going to be a "national/worldwide" company but that development system didn't have to be killed. He pretty much used the territories as his development system through the 80's and early 90's and then developing new talent became a problem because the territories were dead. So build some territory systems back up. Associate various indie companies like ROH or IWC in Pittsburgh with WWE along with OVW, the Atlanta development, maybe something in Texas (run by HBK maybe) and a Calgary territory. Use WWE to syndicate their programs to local markets and/or offer them nationally on WWE 24-7. This way, the idea of a 24 hour wrestling channel, becomes more of a reality because you'll have current territories in addition to the archive footage. I personally would be more enticed to purchase WWE 24-7 if I could watch OVW, ROH and other indies in addition to the classics. WWE can send random talent into these companies when "creative has nothing for them" on the big show. It was exciting to see Matt Hardy come to IWC in Pittsburgh, even though you knew he was part of WWE. It's just nice seeing semi-big names in small venues. They could even develop (GASP) creative teams in the territory system.
