Brewers won again with two consecutive rbi doubles in the bottom of the 9th. Cordero got his 12th save. When Prince Fielder (who had 2 homeruns earlier in the game) came around to score the first run of the 8th he got excited and taunted the pitcher (who threw at his head last night after giving up a homerun to Hardy in relief) to hilarious effect, it looked like the umpire was even chuckling. 21-10.

I don't think he's the magic bean the Yankees are looking for. Fuck him/them.

I'd say this would be a bigger upset than Gonzaga-Cro Cop as Nog has already beaten Herring a couple times. After April, though, I won't be terribly suprised no matter what happens.

    De La Hoya vs Mayweather

My scorecard, for the record- 1. PBF 2. Oscar 3. PBF 4. Oscar 5. PBF 6. Oscar 7. Oscar 8. Oscar 9. PBF 10. PBF 11. Even 12. Oscar I had it even halfway through, Oscar took the lead behind a stellar jab, gave up the lead along with the jab in the 9th and tenth, PBF had the better round in the 11th but Oscar was far more aggressive so I called it even and made the championship be decided in the final round. I thought the 12th was one of DLH's best rounds of the entire fight and with that he won the bout by a point on my card.

Terrific fight. Oscar's abandonment of the jab that was winning him the fight defies explanation, it certainly wasn't anything PBF was doing that made him stop. It was a very close fight. I still say all the talk about 'saving boxing' (doesn't need salvation) was bullshit but the world was watching last night and they saw a good one. I wouldn't mind a rematch.

These guys are trying way too hard to convince themselves that Nov '06 did not happen. That also reminds me of how, despite being a rather lackluster college on top its hate-philosophy, Regent grads have been hired by the Bush Admin in such mass.

In another weird twist one of Oscar's first wins was over Jeff Mayweather.

I re-watched/re-scored the Trinidad fight 3 times and came up with one draw and two Oscar wins. He didn't "deserve" to win though. That fight was the bottoming out of my Oscar-hate, and he really turned himself around after the backlash of that night. I disagree with your assessment of Rafael Ruelas. You should go back and check out his record going into the DLH fight. Ruelas was a champ, something like 40-1, more than a few quality opponents, and serious power at that weight.

While Oscar did get three 'bad' decisions go his way (I personally did have him losing all those fights) it could also be argued that he won two others with Trinidad and Mosely 2.

I was editing to add in the Corrales fight as you typed that, King. Not only a terrible beating, but the added drama of Diego's domestic-violence that PBF was getting 'revenge' for. Did anybody catch the old PBF replays on Espn2 last night? I missed the first one but caught his ko of Hector Arroyo in his 13th fight and the Gatti massacre again.

    De La Hoya vs Mayweather

That's incredibly dumb. Boxing and mma are two completely different things. Obviously any boxer in the world wouldn't be able to win against guy trained to and allowed to use the rest of their bodies and techniques. And if any of the top mma fighters were in a straight boxing match with a top boxer, it wouldn't be fair at all.

    De La Hoya vs Mayweather

Oscar won plenty of big fights without controversy. At lightweight his demolitions of Hernandez and Ruelas were HUGE. The two stoppages of Chavez, clear decision over the solid Miguel Angel Gonzalez, beating Bredahl in his 12th fight, the spectaculear ko of Vargas. Now, one can say that Vargas was damaged already by Trinidad...but by that token the three biggest/clearest victories for Mayweather are probably Gatti/Hernandez/Manfredy, and Oscar had already stopped Arturo & Genaro previously. What this matchup is going to come down to at its most basic is that it is a very good/great bigger guy vs. an excellent smaller guy. How that plays out, size/power vs. speed/skill with an edge in experience to the bigger man will be very interesting. And, there have been many times where a ppv main event has been replayed on HBO the following Saturday without a live fight to matchup with. It will probably be replayed. At times in the past when this happened there was an undercard bout shown. the one example of that coming instantly to mind was the replay of Lewis-Golota with the Gatti-Gabe Ruelas FOTY shown as well. Edit - PBF also destroyed Diego Corrales VERY impressively at lightweight. I almost forgot about that.
