Assuming that that person runs for reelection in 2012, and Obama chooses not to play the TeddyK/1980 role, he wouldnt have another chance until 2016. That would be the year he would also be running for his third full term in the Senate. Any guesses on who the last person to go from 2 full terms in the Senate to the Presidency is? Nobody. JFK was just beginning his second term when he commited to run for President, and had made a bid for Veep in '56...with roughly the same amount of Senate experience as Obama has now. JFK did not have the long resume of state legislature experience that Obama had coming into the Senate. Warren Harding was the first person elected President while a sitting Senator. He was in his first term. Elected in 1914, took office in 1915, won the Presidential election in 1920. "Buts hes a nice black man!"
