You say on a regular basis that you don't respect college football anyway and seem to come into these threads just to deride the sport and jump right back out. If you're so fucking bitter about your peers who happen to be athletic, hit the gym and do something about it. There's plenty to pick apart in the college game without making up a bunch of bullshit because you happen to be loaded down with stereotypes, stereotypes which look like they've arisen because the smart kid can't stand the strong kid getting more attention. They got into college, they met the same standards every other student has to meet, and have to continue to do so or else they aren't allowed to play. Maybe you're just pissed that people with nothing can get an education thanks to their phyical merits and, while completely ignoring that they're getting an education in the first place, would rather bitch and moan about the all the riff-raff allowed into our learning institutions using the cover of sports.

They were right. Many of the SEC games this year were ugly in today's highlight-intensive climate. The '78 Alabama team won games 6-3, but went undefeated. I don't care how much teams score, s'long as they win.

But you also can't allow a single person to pull down the quality of a place and drive away potential members or cause current members to cut back on their activity. "How many people really stopped posting here because of Mike?" Probably not many if any, but how many people said on a consistent basis that they avoided Current Events because of him, or couldn't enjoy the TNA forum anymore? It wasn't just him anyway, because if humans have taught me anything in my 22 years on this rock it's that no matter how stupid or flawed a person or idea, people will align themselves with it. Proto-Mikes and Anglesault supporters wouldn't help their cases, because it would no longer be, as other apologists like to say, "two people arguing when one person could easily stop," but it becomes an entire group of people, which is much more difficult to avoid. The idea that a person and their figurative cronies should be given free passes to put a damper on others' enjoyment of a place or pursuit because "you can just ignore them" is stupid and only allows things to get worse. What's funny is that most of the people who advocate Mike sticking around under the "ignore him" principle are the ones who call someone an advocate of appeasement when they disagree with them about foreign policy.

I still don't understand how they could do all of those pieces before the game was even played. And as much as you all bitch about ESPN and their biases in one way or another, the voting on each of those historical matchups ended up concurring with them. Shows how easily manipulated even sports fans are.

Tommy Tuberville's team was also undefeated, whereas the 2003 mess involved three one-loss teams. I say he gets a free pass, only because Auburn would have put up a better fight than Oklahoma did.

It takes two people to cause that. And anyone who says that likes to ignore that shit has to start somewhere. The catalyst doesn't need to cause trouble in the first place. You sure do love sticking up for people with very few redeemable qualities.

USC seemed so worried about containing the ground game and preventing the deep ball that they forgot the mid-range stuff. All those 10-20 yard passes! Granted, Young has a very quick release but so many of those yards were racked up by receivers who had no one around them for five yards when they caught it. That tight end was ALWAYS open when Young needed him, it seemed. You think USC would like, put a body on him at some point.

The only reason for that timeout had to be someone on USC noticing that they had 12 guys out there, but even then it just moves the conversion a yard closer. Carroll had already wasted a timeout earlier in the half as it was. Going for it on 4th down was an EXTREMELY arrogant call. USC hadn't thrown on any 3rd/4th down short-yardage situations like that all game, so Texas knew all they had to do was load up the middle. If my defense had shown a complete inability to stop the other team, I punt it and try to pin them as deep in their own territory as possible. When mistakes like this work alongside a team that couldn't tackle, look out. USC fuckin' HAD this game, man. As far as the review shit goes, the touchdown early on and then the who-the-hell-thought-that-was-a-turnover review during Texas's next to last drive were both totally boneheaded. The first is a bit more excusable since USC eventually showed they probably wouldn't have stopped Texas on that drive, but when there's such an obvious call as a ball coming out of a player's hands after almost his entire body is on the ground being reviewed it's inexcusable and VERY suspect when one of the teams is working against the clock and could use any stoppage time possible. USC still blew the game, but those were incidents that nudged me a little more in the direction of disliking the review system college football has.

And by band performances, I mean the marching bands. Commercialism has already invaded college football enough, we don't need more. There have been at least three seemingly pointless wide shots of the stadium, pointless until you realize they all started while focused on the sign showing the four big BCS sponsors.

I agree with moving up the start time, but the "superfluous crap" has been part of the game for over a hundred years. If they started the game at 5pm EST, the traditional start time, this wouldn't be a problem. I doubt U2's halftime highlights accompanied the Rose Bowl since before the forward pass. I don't mind a brief analysis by the guys at halftime and the band performances.
